“Great Christmas at Woodhaven - Beautiful Cabin!!!”

Reviewed 11 Jan 2014

Our family including our family dog spent the week of Christmas at Woodhaven (2013). Our cabin stay was a delightful experience; so much so that we will definitely be returning this summer!!! The cabin is about 1/2 hour from asheville, 1/2 hour from Black Mountain, and just minutes from Chimney Rock; so plenty to do. Aside from the steep climb to get to the cabin (AWD vehicle highly recommended), the cabin's location is peaceful and quiet (only one other cabin on the mountain), allowing for hiking on the mountain. To top it off, the realty company that manages this property was professional & responsive to all our needs. All in all ... Beautiful cabin - great experience!!!

“Living in the Canopy”

Reviewed 8 Aug 2013

We loved staying at Woodhaven. The cabin is beautiful, fully stocked with everything you need for a great stay. Traveling with dogs is always a challenge but the cabin even accommodated this. The protected dog run was a surprise and such a welcome. Not having to worry about our dogs getting lost or risking an encounter with wildlife that might have sent them off into the Forrest was a relief. I also loved the adventure of the off road experience to get to the cabin. I really got to use my jeep the way it was meant to be used. So much fun. Thanks for sharing with us.

“Wood heaven”

Reviewed 7 Jun 2013

The service was wonderful from reservations, housekeeping, to the rental home. We will definitely be back! The home was a resort! Should be renamed to Woodheaven From the view, the hot tub, fully equipped kitchen, steam shower, pet friendly, fire pit and comfy beds! The suggestions for a 4WD were good advice! We enjoyed the mountain road access

“Great House!”

Reviewed 9 May 2013

The drive up to the house was an experience like no other. Do not attempt it after dark or without a 4 wheel drive vehicle. The warnings are there for a reason! Once you reach the house, it is paradise in the sky. The owners have carefully thought out every detail and the house is fully equipped with everything you need. The sheets and towels are even top of the line. The heated tile floors in the bathrooms sure did help on our chilly morning. It rained half our stay and we didn't even care. We just threw another log on the fireplace and relaxed. The hot tub was extremely clean and inviting. The area has lots to see - The Biltmore & Winery are a must! Chimney Rock if you are in good shape, Lake Lure, all the small towns, etc. The best part was we got to bring our dog, Sophie. She love laying in front of the fireplace and the fenced yard on the side. Our only disappointment was we did not see any wildlife at all. We were hoping to see a bear or deer or fox or possum or anything. But, guess we were too far up the mountain. My only suggestion for the house would be to put a large TV set above the fireplace in the living room. The steps were too steep for our dog to make it up and down safely and we couldn't leave her alone on the first floor to watch TV in the loft area. It would be nice to relax in front of the fireplace and watch movies, especially on rainy days. We rate this vacation: Fabulous!!!

“A piece of heaven in the NC mountains!”

Greybeard was great to work with; the cabin was unbelievably gorgeous and very well furnished! You really do need a 4-wheel drive vehicle to get there.

“Gorgeous Mountain Retreat”

Reviewed 29 Mar 2013

We loved Woodhaven! It was exactly what you would imagine a luxury cabin in the woods to be and more. All of the rooms are well designed especially the kitchen. Since the cabin is somewhat of a drive from Black Mountain, we brought all of our groceries with us so we could enjoy the most of our time in NC. We loved cooking in the spacious kitchen and eating our meals at a table that has a breathtaking view of the treeline and mountains. We came in a Subaru with 4 wheel drive and a driver who is well versed with mountain navagation. We would highly recommend using a vehicle with 4 wheel capabilities. The gravel drive is very steep and we had a few hiccups on our initial apporach into the property. We also made sure we returned around dusk as none of us wanted to attempt the ascent at night as it is very dark along the road. The distance to asheville is a little longer than listed but we were able to get into town in about 40 min. The solitude was worth a little extra drive! We had an issue with the hot tub, but it was resolved quickly and it was wonderful to be able to soak our tired muscles after a long day of hiking. The fireplace and decks were also well used around the clock. We only wished the weather had been a bit warmer so we could have gotten a chance to sit around the fire pit. We hated to leave and would definitely come back!

“Perfect place to relax and replenish with a loved one!”

Reviewed 19 Dec 2012

Be sure to bring a bunch of food so you can stay in this cabin the whole time! It's a bit of a drive down the mountain to restock. This property had everything we could possibly need. Lots of firewood for the indoor fireplace and huge logs for the fire pit in the back yard. Definitely plan on spending at least one evening making a huge outdoor fire! The jacuzzi was clean and very relaxing. Inside the cabin was a dream! Very high ceilings, & great fixtures and appliances. The decor was very nice as well. I recommend this place to everyone I talk to!

“Awsome”

Reviewed 16 Sep 2012

Myself, wife and our 2 kids stayed at Woodhaven and we absolutely loved it. If your looking for peace and quiet, relaxation, fresh air, beautiful veiws, stop looking. This place is it. Lots of little adventures close by we didnt get to enjoy due to the limited time we stayed, but if your there a week or so, look in the note book Greybeard provides, lots of good information in there. Yes it's out in no mans land (not really) yes the driveway can be a little intimidating, especially to a driver who has no mountain driving experience, but hey thats what makes it more of an adventure. This cabin was the best, really, it doesnt get much better than this. Very nice, well stocked with most anything you need, & very clean. I would open all the doors every morning to let in the fresh mountain air, and my wife and kids thought they were in Heaven when they woke up. We brought our little dog, he loved it too! I was a little hesitant about the place when I heard about the driveway, and I normally wont stay where pets are allowed due our youngest child allergies, but this cabin was all wood (no carpet) and again very clean. The staff at Greybeard was so very helpful and friendly ( Thanks Heather ) and basically told us most everything. There were no unwanted surprises. If I had to find anything bad, I say there were a couple of little trees blocking our veiw of the mountains while enjoying the hot tub. But we'd go back in a minute. In fact next trip to the mountains will most likely be there. Our family ranked it one of the best vacations ever, and I had my doubts cause the kids are use to places like the beach or some other busy destination. But even they loved the place and havent stopped asking when we could go back. Things I would recommend to do that we loved: Biltmore Estate (Unbelievable): Chimney Rock (Breathtaking): Ghost Trolley (Very Cool): White water rafting (Long trip from the cabin but thanks Huck Finn) . Thanks so much Greybeard for allowing us to be your Guest!

“Great Stay!”

Reviewed 31 Aug 2012

My family enjoyed the beautiful home in Black Mountain. The first 2 days we did not leave the house! The view was fabulous, we enjoyed sitting outside on in the rockers in the fresh mountain air. The house had everything we needed and more. The house was a piece of art work. We enjoyed the comfort and best of all dog friendly! The back yard was great for our Dog. Also enjoyed the gourmet kitchen as we love to cook. Highly recommended for a quiet and relaxing stay with your family. Great location to Chimney Rock and Lake Lure. We hope to visit again!

“"Woodheaven" instead of "Woodhaven"”

Arrangements were easy to finalize. As a flat lander and urban dweller, the final leg on the first trip to the property proved to be exhilirating. What a first rate property. The amenities were second to none. The vistas were phenomenal. If you are seeking P & Q with all of the beauty the Carolina mountains are know for, coupled with all of the amenities of everyday life that we've come to expect, this is the property for you.
