“Our home away from home!”

Reviewed 29 Aug 2013

This is a wonderful retreat from our hot Florida summers. We love this house. We occassionally try another, but always return here year after year. It is spacious with three full sized bedrooms, two bathrooms (a plus when travelling with teenagers), and beautiful porch with an even more spectacular view.

“Like Grandma's House with no a/C but a Great View”

Reviewed 17 Aug 2013

August 2013 and it's our 2nd visit to The Bridges, last being summer of 2006. This is a cabin-like 3 bedroom, 2 bath house on a wooded hillside, with adventurous winding, narrowing roads to get to its remote site. It has a Tremendous Mountain View, and you can see that mountain view from the spacious deck, or living room or master bedroom windows. Beyond the view, The Bridges is a rather rustic house with lots of wood, from fake-wood floors, to half-paneled walls, to wooden blinds, and a lot of older wooden furniture. The kitchen is roomy with a large counter, the living room has lots of seating, and all 3 bedrooms are sufficiently spacious. The 2 bathrooms and showers are small but functional. All rooms have ceiling fan and electric heater, but there is no air conditioning. Lighting is quite good in all rooms. The stuffed animal heads on the walls are a cute touch. Since our last visit, the deck has a new large table and umbrella, and (non-HD) DirecTV with a large HD TV have been added. But there is a TV in just one bedroom (not the master), and the screen door still needs replacement. On our 2006 visit, we enjoyed dry weather and were comfy using box fans in 2 living room windows to bring in cool mountain air. On our 2013 visit, we hit a spell with rain each day, and found that cool mountain air was not enough. Indoor humidity was 69% and indoor temp 75+ (per my meter), and we found it "steamy" and uncomfortable. Without a window air conditioner there is no way to remove the humidity, and even with fans to move the air, it was unpleasant for a few evenings; we left two days early with more rain forecast. Too bad the weather is so unpredictable: in dry weather I would give 5 stars, but in wet weather I can only muster 3 stars... so I will average my experience with The Bridges and give it 4 stars. Overall, this makes for a nice mountain visit. Old-fashioned and rustic, sometimes humid, but that great Mountain View makes up for a lot of issues.

“Bridges”

Reviewed 11 Nov 2008

Bridges had a good view, and a nice deck. But the home was musty. The carpet smelled. There was no air conditioning. The TV only got about 3 channels, and only 1 was anywhere near clear. The home did not reach the standard that my family expected, especially considering the rental price of 524 for two nights (which did not include the 300 security deposit which I was forced to pay). My family agreed to not rent from Jenkins Rentals again because they did not, in our opinion, represent the property correctly. I'm sorry, but you asked me to be honest. We love the mountains, but we expect to stay in a place that is better than this home.

Response from the manager Good news! Bridges has been remodeled. The carpet was removed and new furnishing and AC added. Plenty of TV watching through satellite (not sure if you had the box turned on), but who needs TV with that view? If in the area give Bridges Cottage a try.
