“20th anniversary with the family”

Reviewed 16 Mar 2014

My wife and I spent our honeymoon 20 yrs. ago at Big Powderhorn, in a quiet little a frame called the Tamarack 1 and this started a family ski trip that we repeated about 10 times over the past 20 years. We have spent most of our family vacations with our children and my parents always and various friends or nieces and nephews at the Top Notch location. Once again this year Top Notch was a cozy inviting location that offers a lot of room and nice warm family atmosphere. We brought our grandchildren ages 8,6, and almost 4 this year along with other family members. We had a absolute wonderful time as it was the 1st time skiing for all the grandchildren and to see them take to the sport so easily is unbelievable. The staff at Big Powderhorn, Caribou, and the Cheese Haus were friendly outgoing and helpful as always. This and the great ski hill are the reasons we have returned so often. The trip was great, although the unexpected sub zero weather in late Feb made it a little challenging. We cannot wait to do this again in the future. Thanks for a Great Family vacation and to 20 more years of the same!

Response from the manager Thanks for a wonderful review! We look forward to seeing you again in the years to come!

“fantastic location on slope”

Reviewed 5 Mar 2014

Beautifully situated in the trees with a short trail to the slope. One of the best equipped kitchens in homes we've rented. Perfect size for our 2 families with kids - 7 people total. Homey with enough space for the kids to hang out together and the parents to enjoy some quiet.

“Update”

Reviewed 20 Feb 2014

First let say this was our 36th ski trip to Powderhorn. If we were not having a good time, we would have stopped going years ago. We enjoy going up to Powderhorn. The best asset is the shuttle bus. We park and call the bus when we want to visit the bars. No driving worries. For the past few years we have stayed in Topnotch because it is trailside and has a hot tub. For us,two must haves. After all these years we noticed that Topnotch is the same today as it was years ago. To the owners, spend some money to update the plumbing, the heat and just the general appearance of the building. If you want to relive the look of 1975. Topnotch is the place. It never did warm up and the upstairs bathroom drain backs up to over ankle deep in the tub. Believe me our group is not trying to nit pick TN. Wouldn't it be great to raise TN from a bronze property to at least a silver level. Stop taking all the money you make out of Topnotch and put some of that money back into Topnotch. And the alpin is the best bar on the hill. Thanks, John OD

“Big Powderhorn Lodge Stay”

Reviewed 24 Jul 2013

We have been going up to the up in this area for years staying at many of the lodges. Unfortunately there are few lodges that allow even small pets who are well trained. This is one that does. The prices are very expensive considering you are not on a lake. The area is gorgeous for site seeing drives and small hikes. We were up during a period of intense heat without air conditioning. It was hot and uncomfortable. When in the up you need to have lots of bug spray. I guess my biggest concern was the huge cost.

“Fantastic summer vacation rental”

Reviewed 4 Apr 2013

We spent two weeks at Top Notch in the summer. Although there were only two of us, we enjoyed the spacious house, which would also be great for larger groups. The place was secluded, cozy, and we loved the layout and location. Originally from the area, we truly enjoyed coming back and staying at Top Notch. Definitely plan to return. The Powderhorn staff was friendly and helpful (even when we managed to lock ourselves out late one evening).

“Slopeside at Powderhorn in March”

Reviewed 20 Mar 2013

Powderhorn is a great family ski destination. Good variety of runs. Kid friendly. We recognize the same lifties each year, always a smile and hello. Topnotch is great location, ski in-out. Comfortable rooms, fireplaces, game room for kids.

“Ski Trip 35”

Reviewed 14 Mar 2013

Let me start at the very beginning. This Ski Trip was our 35th at Powderhorn. We laugh when we read about the group that has been going to BP for 20 years. They were in seventh grade when we were going to BP. We were driving up there when Route 51 was two lanes all the way. Our chalet this year was Top Notch. Top Notch is a nice chalet with direct access to the hill and it has a hot tub. The chalet itself looks as if it could us an update. But still is very comfortable. A few of the ladies in our group did complain the place never did warm up enough for them. They even called the front deck and asked for a maintenance worker to look at the heat situation. He told us it is electric heat and just takes along time to warm a building especially when it is so cold outside. We love going to Powderhorn. The new lodge is beautiful. The bar looks new, but the lodge feeling will return with age. The alpin (correct my spelling) bar just rocks anymore. It's a great place to take a break, eat some lunch and of course have a few beers. After the runs close, the music and party starts. It's so great to see that place up and operating again. The night life continues at the Pub & Grub. The place is packed, especially Friday and Saturday night. P&G; has the best live music of any of the bars. Getting there is a breeze. Just call the shuttle bus. The bus is the best convenience at BP. Put your car away, you won't need it. Just call the bus and tell them where on the property you want to go and sit back. There is one place at BP that does have some issues. That is the Caribou lodge. We were there years ago and the place was packed to the rafters. Now nobody goes in there, day or night. It's a shame to see that beautiful building going to waste. To Bruce, keep up the effort. That's the story. I'll be making our reservations for February 2014 in the next few days.

“We'll be back!”

Reviewed 26 Jan 2013

My family and I thoroughly enjoyed Topnotch, again. We love sitting on the couch in front of the wood fireplace and visiting with the family. The skiing was fun, even thou the trailside access wasn't useable.(We appreciated the 20% discount because of this.) We enjoyed the charcoal grill, fussball table, free shuttle service, good meal & bonfire at the alpen, and so much more. We were plowed out after it snowed. And, the staff was very friendly & professional. We did have a problem with the hot tub, as the temp was too hot to go in. Even thou it was turned down twice, and we added cold water, we still wern't able to use it. First time any of us have met a hot tub we couldn't get into. It was hot! The Ms. Pacman did not work, again, this year. We are hoping it'll be fixed for next year. All in all, it was a wonderful ski get-together and we will be back. Our thanks to the owners for sharing there cabin in the woods!

“Beautiful Rental, but not enough snow to make it "trailside"”

Reviewed 17 Jan 2013

We loved this place, but our first priority is Trailside! We pay extra for it and with our large family group, it works out well. Because of the lack of snow, and/or lack of snowmaking, we could not ski in or out. We got a 20% discount, but that did not even begin to make up for the inconvenience. That being said, the rental was very nice, clean, comfortable, roomy and very beautiful, set in the woods. The lower level was great for the teenagers!

“Excellent!”

Reviewed 9 Jan 2013

Top Notch is truly top notch. This is the most well-equipped rental unit! A very well-stocked kitchen made meals with multiple families easy and enjoyable. The unit was clean, nicely updated and provided lots of space for family gathering. We will rent again!
