“Alpen Villa condos at Big Powderhorn review of 2-19-16 stay”

Reviewed 1 Mar 2016

Stayed at Alpen Villa unit 3. The place was nice, but for the price of over $450 per night I would have expected bigger and more modern. I loved the ski up access and outdoor hot tub that was partitioned with plexiglass too keep the wind and snow off of us while we enjoyed it. I rated the amenities as poor. The TV was impossible to follow the instructions to get more than 3 channels even though we were told we had cable. The DVD player in the living room was broke and only showed up in black and white with a split multi view of our movie we were trying to watch. The wood must have been kind of green, because we used a lot of kindling to get it started. The note on how to build a fire was not working as it said be patient?? The 3rd night we gave up on a fire, because we ran out of paper and kindling to attempt to light on and we had 2 men trying their darndest to get it going. I would prefer a 2 night minimum and I would return, but the 3 night min makes it unaffordable to return for a weekend trip.

“Our 4th of July vacation”

Reviewed 15 Jul 2015

We enjoyed our stay at the Big Powderhorn Mountain Villa condo. Everything one could possible need for a 7 day stay was there. I was born and raised in the area (Ramsay) and graduated from the Bessemer School in 1948. We had a 67th reunion and several of us stayed in the condos. It was quiet, convenient, and moderately priced. My wife and I decided we will do it again next year. Since I am 85, there may not be too many of those next years left. I took many pictures in the area and quite a few of the condo. I have shown them to several friends here in Southern Illinois, and they were impressed. Hopefully it may stir some intere3st in vacationing in the good old U.P. The mess created by the reconstruction of US-2 in Ironwood was a slight problem. But being a Yooper, I knew how and where to go to bypass the problems.

Response from the manager Thank you for a wonderful review! We are so glad you enjoyed your stay back in the U.P.! We would love to have you come back and visit us again!

“End of summer trip”

Excellent price, impecable and friendly service. You can't ask for a better location. The units at alpen Villas are a little dated, but price and location more than make up for it.

“Wonderful Vacation and Place to stay”

Location!!! Ski in and out. Stones throw from the alpen Inn. Comfortable.. New beds are great. Courtesy of the staff wonderful. Extended our stay. Skiing was great and had a ton of snow. Our 3 year old skied and had a great time there. Our dog did not ski and enjoyed it also.

“A great stay!”

I've stayed in a chalet and I've stayed at the alpen Villa. Both accommodations were nicely furnished, clean and very serene. Thank you! I will be back.

“Great stay.”

Perfect for our little snowboarding/skiing vacation. The Villa was located right off one of the green runs and although we didn't go to the Alpen Tavern it was a short walk up the slope. Everything was well stocked including firewood and the property was in decent condition although it could use a little updating and perhaps in the future get some type of internet connection. Hot tub outside was a great benefit especially after some hard sore days from the slopes. Lastly our dogs loved it! Great to have a place that is willing to take responsible dog owners. Would definitely come back again.

“familoy ski trip”

The staff at the Lodging Association were very nice and helpful, especially when we diuscovered after the first night that our bed had been (not quite) fitted with too-small sheets. We absolutley loved being trailside, the equipment locker and propane grill were very nice extras, and overall the lodge was comfortable. The walls and floors seemed a bit flimsy, and the heating pipes rattled all night long. The attention paid to grooming the slopes was very much appreciated, and conditions on the hill were excellent, even on Sunday with the half foot of fresh snow. We were saddened by the death of the snowboarder on Sunday, and our hearts go out to his family and friends.
