“Casa Camaleon, 1 Bedroom, Review”

Reviewed 26 Nov 2012

The best place to stay in Playa Grande, for a good price and great service. The Lawrences were very gracious hosts and were always available when you needed them. I would highly recommend Casa Camaleon to anyone who is traveling in the Guanacaste region. Easy access to the beach, short boat ride into Tamarindo, and a very comfortable room with kitchen bath and a porch. Overall an excellent experience. I will definitely stay there again in the future.

“Total Relaxation!”

Reviewed 12 Nov 2012

When I left for Costa Rica I had no idea in my wildest dreams how super chilled and totally relaxing my stay would be. The day I arrived at Casa Camaleon I was greeted by warm smiles and and a tranquil vibe second to none. The Owners, Terry and Sharr were very accommodating. They both went the extra mile and even more in making my stay comfortable and enjoyable. I was very fortunate to stay in a cabina that had the best view of the garden. Every morning the quietness and still atmosphere enticed the small creatures to come out of their hiding places to absorb the morning sunlight. While sitting outside at my breakfast table, I managed to routinely feed a bright green lizard my morning fruit while a large toad hugged the palm leave trying to disguise his presence. It was moments like these that i realized how simple and peaceful life can be. The location of Casa Camaleon was perfect. Almost on the beach where the turtles come out at night. Its also a stones throw away from the hussle and bussle night life of Tamarindo. Sharr and Terry have so many bikes and surfboards that can be rented inexpensively. I brought my own surfboard so I rented a bike and I explored the entire estate while surfing along the way!. The surf was good too and if you break your board like I did, there is a local fellow does repairs. I wish I could of stayed longer as I really started getting into the whole pura vida vibe that keeps everyone going back for more. I would definitely recommend this hotel to the avid traveler. I hope to return soon for a romantic getaway but this time with my partner!

“A lovely, relaxing stay!”

Casa Camaleon is a wonderful place to get away, rest, relax and enjoy the beach. The small apartment was cozy, the kitchen well-equipped, and the overall atmosphere relaxing. It was convenient to have wireless internet available. The beach is a quick walk away. I would recommend getting there by car, as it is a little tucked away. We absolutely loved our stay and hope to go back soon!

“We had a great time!”

Reviewed 5 Mar 2012

Casa Camaleon is a simple place to stay very close to the beach. We had a 2 bedroom, 1 bath. Sharr, the owner, lives right next door and shared some tips to seeing the best of Playa Grande, including some turtle hatchlings and booked a tour for us. Laundry, surf boards, and boogie boards were also available for a small fee. We will stay here again. It was simple, nothing spectacular, but sitting outside early in the am eating breakfast and listening to the sounds of the howler monkeys that we could see, was priceless. We also felt very safe with the kids running around. It was at the end of a street in a gated community with a fenced yard.

“Playa Grande - Excellant Location”

Reviewed 1 Mar 2012

We stayed 7 nights and found the accomodations to be just what we needed. Bakery/Fruit/Veggie/Egg/Fish trucks are a wonderful plus. We also had a rental car so we were able to go into town and stock up but there is also a community store. Great Friday BBQ at one of the resturants and we went back another night for dinner which was also very good and well priced. We also used the water taxi to go to Tamarindo rather then drive. Glad we did not book our stay in Tamarindo - one day was more then enough. Discovered lots of beach treasure - so many shells, baby Leatherback turtles, starfish, sand dollars, even monkeys a few days. Short walk to the beach from Casa Camaleon made it easy to enjoy the gorgeous sunsets every night. Can't say I disliked anything except having to leave. Don't hesitate - book your stay.

“Peaceful in Playa Grande”

Casa Camaleon is a perfect little haven with a stunning beach, Playa Grande! The owners Sharr & Terry were there to greet us in spite of our late arrival time. One of the first things I noticed was the sound of waves crashing on the beach & inside the unit we immediately noticed how clean and well cared for it was.We had a sitting room, kitchen, bathroom w/large shower & bedroom with a king sized bed. The kitchen was stocked with the necessary cookware, dinnerware & utensils. We had a fridge w/freezer, stove & sink, now we just needed supplies. The back door off the kitchen led to an outdoor sink which was perfect for rinsing out our swim suits & the owners were kind enough to put up a clothes line too! Oh yea, and there's an outdoor shower! Since we had decided not to rent a car we went into Tamarindo to do our first grocery shop. We walked from Casa Camaleon to the estuary,(15 mins) took a boat across for only $1 ea and walked to the auto Mercado to shop then returned to Casa Camaleon. There is a small grocery store close to Casa Camaleon that we used as well and the restaurant there serves the best pizza! The beach is only a 5 min.walk from our door, making it convenient for us to pop home for lunch or siesta before returning to the beach for sunset! We were so comfortable here that we did not stray too! The grounds of Casa Camaleon are clean & very well maintained. It is a very peaceful, restful place to stay. It was the best nights sleep I have had in several months! Sharr & Terry were very kind, hospitable and having them on site really contributed to our comfort & to make our visit memorable. We were sad to leave, but so happy to know that we have found our own little piece of paradise that we will be returning to! Thanks again for everything! If you are looking for clean, quiet, comfortable accommodations in Playa Grande - this is it! Maryse & Dave, Gabriola, BC Canada

“Truly amazing!”

Casa Cameleon was a great home base for my brief but exciting adventure in Costa Rica. It is in a great location if you want to be out of the hustle and bustle of Tamarindo, but still want easy access to the town for fun day trips and evenings. It also has great access to the beach (which is less busy than the beach by Tamarindo), a local convenience store, and other restaurants/bars. Though I didn't see any turtles on my trip, I did speak with EarthWatch volunteers who were monitoring the sand temperatures for the benefit of the turtles. My room was great. I had a kitchen with all the utensils I needed to be able to make my breakfasts every morning, and I could easily have made other meals if I wanted to dine-in. It was safe to drink the water from the tap, so no worries there. My bed was comfortable, and there was free wifi to help keep me connected. The true value of Casa Cameleon is in the owners, Charr and Terry. When I was looking for a place to stay before heading to Costa Rica, I was immediately struck by how willing and helpful they were. Charr helped arrange my shuttle from the airport, and made arrangements for whatever tours or adventures I thought I would like to experience. That was a big blessing for a guy who doesn't speak a lick of Spanish! Charr and Terry were also incredibly generous with how they helped me plan my surprise engagement while I was there. They connected me with local vendors whom I could never have found on my own, and they provided me lots of insight and assistance in planning all the details of my special evening. Way above and beyond what I could have possibly hoped for from perfect strangers. Enjoy your stay!

“Great value”

Excellent accomodation experience from arrival to departure. We arrived late in the evening and were warmly greeted by our host, who helped us with our luggage and gave us some quick area information. The unit was extremely clean, functional, and full of personality. Sharr and Terry were always available to assist with all of our questions and concerns - even after we checked out. For this price, you will certainly not find a better value. Budget accomodations should not necessarily mean "uncomfortable" accomodations and the owners of Casa Camaleon undoubtedly recognize this fact. A little care goes a long way and it was evident not only in the poperty itself but also in how the hosts interacted with their guests. We would not hesitate to recommend this property to anyone.

“Casa Camaleon - Costa Rica”

If you're looking for crowds of tourists, partying twenty year olds, and a wild club/night-life scene...then you should go somewhere else during your stay in Costa Rica. Playa Grande is extremely quiet. The beach is a pristine, uncrowded sanctuary made for surfing. It's the perfect out of the way spot if you're looking to spend your time relaxing in a rugged, tropical paradise. Casa Camaleon offers a quaint environment to store your bags and lay your head at night which is great because for real...who plans to stay in their respective room for any length of time while traveling in Costa Rica. The rooms are very clean, very comfortable, and very inexpensive. Sharr and Terry, the owners of Casa Camaleon, are gracious hosts who will go out of their way to help you with whatever you need (directions, excursion advice, etc.) during your stay. I highly recommend Playa Grande and Casa Camaleon to anyone looking for a little solitude in a place that really can't be matched for peace and beauty.
