“Cozy, wooded retreat close to asheville, hiking, dining, etc.”

Reviewed 10 Jan 2014

Our extended family spent Christmas together at the Byrd's Nest. The best features of this property were the wonderful outside spaces: the fire pit, gas logs on the deck, multiple swings, lots of outdoor seating and the hot tub. They created perfect accomodation for visiting with family and relaxing, even in the cooler weather. The location its great...just minutes from the downtown area of Black Mountain and a short drive from asheville. During our stay we ventured out to asheville and downtown Black Mountain twice. The road to the cabin is unpaved, but not overly rough, steep or narrow. Though the signage into the subdivision is poor, so I'd suggest the initial drive up be indaylight. Inside the cabin, the gathering areas are again perfect for board games, conversation, etc. Though do be aware the 2nd floor den is open to the first floor den immediately below it. This can be distracting if both areas are watching television or gaming at the same time. Also, be aware the televisions are older and are not compatible with newer gaming systems. The kitchen has a lot of stuff! But I felt it lacked some essentials like a working coffee maker and a rolling pin. The only negative aspect of the home was the moldy shower curtain in the master bathroom and the overall dustiness in the nooks and crannies. Overall this home provided a charming backdrop to our holiday vacation!

“Love the house, hate the location.”

Reviewed 20 Nov 2013

House is great, love the layout and features. Owners really have thought of everything. The day we arrived we spent alot of timing cleaning. Heavy mold in master shower. 20 or more dead flies laying on floor, table, bar. Beer caps in the cushions and on the floor. This was very disappointing. I would not blame this on the house or owners. The biggest drawback was the roads to the cabin. With awd subaru it was a pain and rough trip up and down a couple tjmes a day.

“Exceeded our Expectations!”

Reviewed 11 Nov 2013

Booking and check in was easy, everyone we encountered was very friendly. The cabin was absolutely gorgeous! We were surprised to find a tetherball set, a horseshoe set, a few places to play the Bimini Ring game, plenty of wood for the fireplace and firepit, and a gas firepit on the back porch. The place was roomy, comfortable, and had everything you would need and absolutely gorgeous views. The only complaint we had was that it was a little bit further out than we expected (it was about 20-25 minutes to get to Black Mountain and more like 40 to asheville). The last few miles of road were unpaved, and we had a little trouble finding it, but it was well worth it when we arrived and found such a wonderful and secluded cabin! We will return!

“Fabuloso!!!”

Everything we even thought about was in this house!!! The owners have thought of every single thing! What a warm and lovely home. It really felt like it was yours for the days and nights that we were there. Even though it was up a gravel road, it was easily traveled. The scenery was exquisite and the weather was warm days and cool nights. We fell in love with the town and its people! They were charming and friendly...seemed to love life. They were doing what they love to do. I haven't seen so many beautiful crafts in one place! I am anxious to have my family join us for a great summer vacation! That says it all!

“Lovely Home in a Beautiful Mountain Setting”

Reviewed 30 Aug 2013

My husband & I and our two boys really enjoyed staying at Byrd's Nest. The house is adorable & very well kept. We used the kitchen to cook several times & we enjoyed using the hot tub which was spotless. The view from the front porch is lovely & the back deck makes you feel like you are in the trees. We also enjoyed the fire pit & taking pictures on the scenic rock location in front of the house. The road to the house is somewhat bumpy but nothing worth complaining about plus the area has had tons of rain this summer which is hard on gravel roads. We did see two rattle snakes near the rock but heck you are in the mountains. There were wild turkeys & a raccoon visited us while we were sitting at the fire pit. My son saw a coyote near the front of the house too. We were told about "Toby" the big local bear but we never saw him. This was also a great location. Close to town & many mountain attractions plus it was an easy drive to asheville. We hiked somewhere every day. We would definitely go back to Byrd's nest again. It is a great house.

“Lovely, simply lovely”

What a lovely weekend in a beautiful cabin! My four daughters and I enjoyed browsing, shopping, and good food in Black Mountain. Most of all we enjoyed each other in beautiful Byrd's Nest. It was the perfect backdrop for a memorable weekend together. We will always cherish our time together.

“Relaxing and beautiful:))”

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Byrd's Nest!! Perfect setting, location, and all!! We experienced the wasps, which was a bit challenging with some allergies to two gals, but managed. It was clean and very cozy, just what we had hoped for. The patio was our favorite spot, relaxing around the table and just catching up...we had a gorgeous weekend for the weather as well!! Wish the firepit was not on the other side of the home, really not easily accesible to use the way it is situated. But, regardless, we would come back to the home, again!! We found the swing as well and took some great pictures on our own "rock" that was a lot of fun!! Thank you and Greybeard was very helpful in reservations and questions. We loved the town shopping and will certainly return!!

“We Loved Byrd's Nest”

Creative decor, private setting, perfect mountain getaway. We really enjoyed our time here. There was homemade pumpkin bread on the counter as a welcoming gift when we arrived. Very close to Black Mountain and about a 15 minute drive to asheville. We will go back soon, I hope!

“Beautiful Night Sky”

Reviewed 5 Dec 2012

The house has absolutely everything that you could need or want. The road to get there is a little tricky but worth it. I would not have tried it in my sedan, but was more than comfortable with my 4WD SUV. The rooms were spacious and the beds were comfortable. The kitchen was top notch with amazing appliances. The TV was there and great when we wanted it and closed away in a cabinet for family time. The fire place was probably our favorite feature that had a gas lighting bar for starting fires. They have an extended deck with lots of outdoor areas which our most unexpected and favorite part. We sat out on a couple of clear nights and just could not get over the amazing star views. Don't forget paper products for your stay, but everything else is there.

“The best little nest!”

Reviewed 24 Sep 2012

Byrd's Nest is an amazing retreat! It's like spending a week at a relaxing spa. The cabin has everything you can possibly need including a fireplace to cozy up to in the evenings. Most importantly, the beds and linens are very comfortable. The cabin may seem remote; however, you are very close to many attractions including Chimney Rock Park and The Biltmore. The Town of Black Mountain is quite quaint and has very nice shops and restaurants to visit as well (if you really want to leave Byrd's Nest). Each day we were there, we found another little bird hidden in a new nook/cranny in the cabin. The cabin is very well managed by Greybeard Rental agency who are very professional, courteous, and helpful.
