“Lovely retreat in Black Mountain”
We really enjoyed our stay at Mechlin Retreat. The house is well laid out, in a very quiet neighborhood, and was well-stocked with everything we needed. Our little boys loved poking around in the stream behind the house and crossing the little footbridge. All in all it was a relaxing, hassle-free and comfortable place to stay, and Black Mountain is a neat little city with a good number of restaurants, some interesting stores, and a couple of good parks for kids. I think my favorite part was the quiet neighborhood, which was nevertheless very close to city amenities; and my least favorite part was the fact that the number of stairs to the house made getting groceries and small children inside a little bit challenging.
“The retreat served the need to stay overnight in the area and wa”
Rental office was very helpful. All directions and paperwork was great. The home was easy to find. Home was very clean and spacious but just not that warm and cozy feeling. Fridge works very well and kept things cold. No directions to work TV if you are not used to the multi controls. Very difficult to maintain comfortable temperature.it was either too hot or too cold. Outdoor lighting from driveway and up to the front steps not enough light and steps seemed a bit hazardous. Good location of home. No great amenities to speak of. Had to do too many things before checking out. Beds should have been made on arrival. Should not have to carry off the trash. We liked the location and nearby town. We did notlike the outdated decor.
“Much needed retreat at Mechlin Retreat”
The best features of the house were: location and comfort. In the morning,I enjoyed reading on the back deck. The feeling of being in the woods was very restful. My guest and I found the furniture very comfortable and clean. I think some staging of art- especially picture height, size of pictures and incomplete borders take away from the ambience.
“Great place, fair price”
Charming house. Amenities all checked out. No complaints whatsoever.
“Great Value and Convenient”
Loved the proximity to Black Mountain and the value for the size of the house. We had a great time during our visit to the area. The leaf festival is amazing. Couple of recommendations for the house: Back porch was covered with leaves. No step coming down from back door, just a pile of roof shingles. My wife missed the "step" due to leaves and twisted her ankle. Also, you need to notify people headed to vacation that this house is located in a very quiet neighborhood. We were not loud by any means but felt uncomfortable on the back porch after dark. Air hockey table is a nice touch but no extension cord to plug it in. Don't want to make it sound like a bust. We realize this is a house in transition and for the money we loved it.
Response from the manager Thank you so much for your review. We are always looking for ways to improve our renters stay. We will have someone remove the leaves from the back porch and sorry that this was not addressed before your stay. This is the time of year when it accumulates so quickly! We will also pass on the suggestion for an extension cord. We are glad that you enjoyed your stay, however, and look forward to having you stay with us again. Thanks, The Greybeard Staff
