“everything was wonderful”
Jonahs house was beautiful. Couldn't have asked for a more lovely home or location. The scenery was amazing. ended up getting married at the house it was so beautiful.
“Great location but high in the sky”
The house was great and we enjoyed asheville and Black Mountain areas. We did not realize that the house was located so high up the mountain. My wife was ready to go back home after the first ascent up the driveway. The house was outstanding and ultra-modern. It was fully equipped. We worked hard to leave the house in excellent condition. We did not get the letter regarding obtaining the key from the lock box. We had stopped our mail several weeks before and we did not have our computer with us. So we were surprised to find the rental agency closed. But there was a worker cleaning up in the back of your building and he helped us.
Response from the manager Hi there, Thanks for giving us feedback on your stay! Glad you enjoyed the house and your time in the area. We passed along the note about you not receiving your information letter to our reservationist team. So sorry for the confusion. Thanks again, Greybeard Rentals team
I had an amazing time with my friends and family. No words could describe the nature's beauty and the Jonah's place. Will be planning another trip no doubt. Thanks, Lee
Great home. But111 You will need 4 wheel drive to get up the drive way.I was using 4 wheel low on a 2009 GMC Sierra with a V8. I think it would be almost impossible to get up in ice or snow. But the house is fantastic. Well appointed and gorgeous views.
First of all, I want to say that Jonah's house is a beautiful home in a very pleasant setting. Lots of room, plenty of peace and quiet if you want that. It is also a great space for the price. All that being said, there were some odd little issues that, over the two weeks we were there, started to add up. And though not wholly unpleasant, these little issues did detract a little from the whole experience. Both of the bathrooms upstairs had poorly functioning sliding shower doors. The freezer door on the refridgerator would open slightly and not close properly if you tried to use the ice dispenser. Halfway through our stay, the satelite tv was shut off due to non-payment (an important consideration when one has children to entertain). Lastly, the house is located far up on the steepest driveway, located on the steepest road I have ever seen. If one is staying put, no biggie. But if one is driving to town daily, it can put a lot of wear and tear on your engine and breaks. Again, I would say that, overall, it was a pleasant stay. When we visit the area again, however, I will look to other properties first. One thing I will say is that it is great working with Greybeard, and my somewhat negative reveiw should not be a reflection on the fine people there, or their service. Thanks!
“Beautiful house and lots of space...at a cost.”
I spent 6 days at Jonah's House with my family over Christmas. The house itself is as gorgeous and spacious as the pictures represent. It comes fully stocked with all the supplies you would have in your own home (kitchen appliances, bed lined, wireless Internet, Direct TV)...unfortunately, all that glitters is not gold... There are a few important things you'll need to know, especially if you rent this house in the winter. First, other reviews may have mentioned how steep the driveway is. They're not kidding! The problem is that there is no system set up for precautionary salting of the roads, so one night we had to abandon our car on the side of the ice-laden road and hike it back to the house in the blistering wind and snow by foot. It was very dark and very dangerous. To make matters worse, the winds knocked trees down bringing power lines down with them. A few hours by candle light (Little House on the Prairie style) would have been fine, but no electricity in Jonah's House also means no running water! Yes, water is brought up to the house by an electric pump. So no power= no pump= no water. This happened twice during the week. "Surelu, there must be a backup generator," you say. No, there is not. Next issue is the infestation of hornets coming from the roof (I kid you not!) I killed 4 in my bedroom alone in one afternoon. We called the property management to send someone to spray and was told the Tirmenex guy would come... in 2days. He never came. On the bright side, seeing how many hornets you can kill with a few pairs of shoes and a can of starch spray makes for an interesting family activity, especially when you have no electricity. Finally, make sure you wash all the bed linen before you use it. I got into bed the first night and my sheets and pillows smelled like women's perfume. Definitely wasn't my fragrance! Overall, it's a good thing that the true meaning of Christmas is more about who you spend it with, not where you spend it.
Response from the manager Thank you for taking the time to review the house. The storms we had were completely unusual and affected much of the East Coast knocking down trees, etc. Unfortunately the weather is totally out of our control and hopefully not a reflection on the house. The power going out is not a typical occurance and we are so sorry for the inconvenience during your stay. We were on the phone all day with Progress Energy as they were updating us. About the hornets...we are sorry that Terminix was unable to get there sooner, but that has now been taken care of. We also gaurantee that the sheets were clean and washed but will take in to account the suggestion to use fragrance free detergent. I am glad that inspite of this it sounded like you all had an enjoyable time and made memories you won't forget. We hope you come stay with us again...maybe during a milder time of year! “Comfortable, rustic and cozy stay”
Easy to rent through Greybeard, it's our 4th rental from them and we will continue to use their services. We loved Jonah's house. The view was beautiful, we were away from traffic up on the side of a hill and enjoyed being remote. The cell phone service was in and out but that was fine with us being on vacation but might bother someone who needed to access a cell phone reliably. We met the owner who was likable and gracious. We were able to hike nearby. Enjoyed Black Mountain food and shopping, went to ashville/Biltmore for a 15K run and to Pisgah National forrest to hike and explore. A relaxing getaway. The park and "pond" at Lake Tomahawk in Black Mtn. were a favorite with our girls ages 3 and 9months. We did not see any bears (which we were worried about).
“Beautiful area and view”
The house is Beautiful but the house cleaning could use a improvement. (Lot of insects, stained bedding and dirty linens.)
Response from the manager Thank you for taking the time to review. We are very sorry that you experienced cleaning that was not up to par. That is not typical for us and we will bring attention to it right away. We will also be sure that bedding and linens are replaced. Thanks again and we hope you come and stay with us again. Thanks, Greybeard Staff
this house is amazing! perfect location, close to ashville village, biltmore house, and waterfalls. the only thing we got trouble with was the internet was not working. besides that, everything else is good. The house and the kitchen were clean. We were there three days but we had a lot of fun. I wish we could stay there a bit longer. Maybe next time. I will rent this house again!!!
We had a great time. The opnly problem was it snowed while were were there and the driveway is very steep and was pretty scary! The house was beautiful and kitchen was perfect to cook meals. We didn't like that there was no TV in the main living room area, though. We had a great time. We would choose this house again in the spring/summer, but not in the winter, too scary! Thanks!
