“Amazing Location for a Perfect Family Christmas!”

Reviewed 14 Mar 2014

Harmony Hill was an amazing experience for my family. We had family coming from California, New York, and eastern NC to spend Christmas together in the mountains. The house itself was amazing, beautiful views and close enough to town but far enough away to get a true mountain experience (we even got some snow flurries!) The home had everything you could possibly need to prepare meals and entertain. Beds and linens were extremely comfortable, and the upstairs apartment was perfect for the younger family members. I would definitely recommend this rental for any occasion.

“A perfect mountain escape”

Reviewed 21 Nov 2013

We arrived under the cover of darkness and were blown away in the morning by the view from the bedroom, living room and kitchen/dining room - undeveloped mountains so close you felt you could reach out and touch them and beautiful golden light streaming through the last autumn leaves. The house is surrounded by the forest and mountains, you feel in plain nature here. The house is extremely comfortable and homey, and very luxurious - large glass shower in the master, very comfortable beds and bedding, high-end kitchen appliances and cooking tools and cozy couches and chairs in the living room to lounge in fireside. And seeing almost no other houses on the mountain across from us gives a real feeling of being deep in the North Carolina wilderness (even though Black Mountain town is just 10 min down the road). There are many other houses in the development but they're spread out for the most part and the setting feels very private. The last morning we took a walk way up the hill for beautiful views of the lake and surrounding peaks. I want to go back next year!

“Harmony Hill Weekend”

Reviewed 3 Oct 2013

We had a great time at Harmony Hill-- the house is beautiful, the scenery breathtaking etc. All the talk about bears was a little disconcerting but when we didn't wind up seeing one we found ourselves more disappointed than relieved. The folks at Greybeard were really nice to work with. The one snafu was over the WiFi. We had a house full of people who needed to be able to communicate with work/school and when the WiFi wasn't working it took a day and a half to hear from a technician and then he wasn't able to fix the problem, which was a hassle. Overall, great, but double check the WiFi or leave your work at home and relax!

“Comfort, spaciousness, and wildlife!”

Reviewed 29 Aug 2013

Harmony Hill is a comfortable, well appointed mountain home that had more than enough room for our family of 6. Our 2 teenage boys thoroughly enjoyed the privacy and the amenities of the 2-bedroom apt. over the garage. The view of the forested mountainsides directly across from the house was pretty, and peaceful, but not spectacular. What really amazed us were the bears! We had one encounter in which a juvenile bear climbed up onto the outside deck, and stared at us through the windows. Then standing up, it appeared to try to push open the glass sliders. At the same time, a second cub and the mother were down below. The deck bear gave up, and the 3 of them left. One morning, we saw a single bear in the grass below the deck. And while we were out one day, a bear or bears tried very hard to break into the side of the garage, by ripping and tearing at the wood and insulation of the door and its window. There was no food or garbage in the garage, but they must have been hopeful. We also saw wild turkeys and deer on the drive up and down to the house. The road is slow and winding, but paved and well maintained, with little traffic. We all enjoyed our nearly 3 week stay at Harmony Hill. We definitely recommend it to other families with teenagers, but not small children. There is little outside area for them to play, except on the back deck or the front driveway. Beneath the deck is only a weedy area of bushes and tall grasses.

Response from the manager Thank you for your review! We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay. I did want to acknowledge the info about the bears...which was probably a bit closer wildlife action than you wanted. This community is located between Asheville Watershed and the Blue Ridge Parkway which are known bear sanctuaries. We do warn our guests to be aware that they are often seen in this area, although thankfully we have never had any harmful encounters happen. Thank you for letting us know about this instance. We have fixed the door damage and will continue to keep a close eye on things. We look forward to having you come stay with us again. Thanks, Greybeard Staff

“Had a great time in spite of visitors who checked out before us.”

Reviewed 25 Sep 2012

Our family took a long Labor Day weekend to visit Black Mountain and Harmony Hill. Our experience was nothing short of fabulous despite the visitors to Harmony Hill previous to our visit. On the drive down to Black Mountain from our home in Westerville Ohio, we received a phone call from Rachel of Greybeard Realty with news that a bear or bears had broken into Harmony Hill and had a party in the kitchen. These must have been fraternity bears because they made quite a mess, according to Rachel. The folks at Greybeard had already proactively found us a new rental if we wanted it. We were given the option of staying at Harmony or at the new rental. We decided to stay at Harmony Hill after checking it out. The place had been cleaned up perfectly and except for a few missing cabinet doors and some damage to outside doors, we found our vacation home perfect. This is a great place, well appointed with a great kitchen. The folks at Greybeard are wonderful and to me the epitomy of southern hospitality. The house is a bit out of the way, but that's what we wanted. We were even visited by the frat bears one morning but they found us a bit sedate and didn't hang around. I would recommend a stay at Harmony Hill and highly recommend the services of Greybeard Realty.

“Harmony Hill was a perfect place for a family reunion/celebratio”

Reviewed 11 Jun 2012

Harmony Hill had it all---beautiful views, lovely, original artwork, well-appointed kitchen, comfortable beds, and everything was clean. The house was beautiful and felt like a 'home'--not just a rental; the kitchen was great; we enjoyed cooking together. The family room with the fireplace was a cozy place to spend the evening. We entertained in the main house, and grand children who wanted to stay up late were able to go over to the apartment and not interfere with the grandmas who wanted to go to sleep earlier in the evening. The apartment was terrific---2 bedrooms, kitchen, living room. The deck had beautiful views of the mountain--- it was a beautiful space to entertain. Grilling outdoors was not allowed for good reason. Bears are a part the neighborhood. We had a bear sighting while we were there. The only drawback to Harmony Hill is that we did not want to leave. The location was approximately 10-15 minutes from Black Mountain and about 25 minutes from asheville. Also, the staff at Greybeard was extremely helpful. In particular, the woman who staffed the after hours phone line. Forgive me for not remembering your name, (I think your name was Susan? but am not sure) you helped us find Harmony Hill when our Vrbo rental had problems. It was a Friday evening, May 11 after 6:00 PM and you had everything arranged for us within an hour. We were very stressed about not being able to find accommodations at the last minute, and with your help locating Harmony Hill our family had a fantastic time celebrating our son's graduation. I cannot thank you enough for your help. Greybeard and Harmony Hill arewonderful.

“Good, but not great.”

Reviewed 2 Nov 2011

The house was a little cramped. The pictures made the house seem more spacious, so we were a little disappointed when we arrived. We were looking for spacious since we had 4 kids traveling with us and our husbands were using this time to have meetings. The rooms were nicely decorated and the view was great. Linens were nice and we liked the heated bathroom floors. Having stayed in lots of other cabins I would say that the price was too high for what you get. I would not stay there again.

“Beautiful home in the perfect location!”

Reviewed 12 Aug 2011

The whole family loved Black Mountain. It's such a quaint and welcoming little town. The location of Harmony Hill was so perfect...just minutes from town but far enough away to enjoy the mountain views in peace. The owner has decorated beautifully and made her home comfortable for all her guests. I hope we can come back again!
