“Great apartment in central Alfama”

Reviewed 7 Nov 2016

We had a lovely 4 night stay in the upper apartment. The apartment is great, in the centre of old Alfama. The apartment has all the facilities you need and more. It is lovely decorated and very spacious and was like home from home. An extra feature was the outside space, there is a balcony with a table and 4 chairs where we had morning sun (bearing in mind this was October - you may have sun all day in the summer months). We were greeted by Antonio who showed us round, what a really lovely guy. You have the option to purchase some wine from the apartment, which we did - the Rose wine was lovely, there was also an option to purchase olive oil and honey, we would have bought some honey, but unfortunately, there was none left out for us. Never mind :) . The position of the apartment is in the middle of winding cobbled streets, we took a taxi from the airport and cost 12 euros. At the top of our cobbled street is where Tram 28 passes and you can get on/off here. We took the Tram all the way to the end, got off had a look round, a quick bite to eat then all the way back to the other end of the tram line - very interesting. We tried the famous custard tart..... yummy The position of the apartment is perfect really, you can walk easily into the next district and see the cruise ships which have docked. There are so many different aspects to Lisbon, each area having a different feel to it. We ate in a local restaurant right opposite to apartment - to be honest, we were not very impressed. There was Fado played there and also a singer, who was very charming and the Fado was good, but the food, we didn't really this it was worth the money, but that may be down to personal choice. One thing I would recommend - take stable walking shoes. Everyone is dressed very casually with either walking boots or trainers - definitely no heels!!! And just one other recommendation, a pint of milk on arrival would be nice, although just at the bottom of the cobbled street there are small supermarkets selling all your basics. We arrived at lunchtime, so no milk was not a problem but if you was arriving late at night, it would be a lovely touch. All in all, a lovely apartment and should we visit Lisbon again, we will return to these apartments

Response from the manager Thank you for your review. It was a pleasure to welcome you. Happy to know you liked the apartment and that it suited your needs :) Whenever our guests arrive late we usually ask if they want us to buy something for breakfast but the small supermarkets are opened until midnight or 2am even.

“Excellente adresse !”

Ema

“Impressive apartment but attention to detail required”

Reviewed 8 Oct 2016

Large, well equipped, impressive apartment in the historical Alfama area. However, attention to detail is required: kitchen door trim was hanging off two cupboards, having been stuck with pieces of tape. The kitchen curtain was dirty and stained, white furniture in lounge needs to be cleaned, a deckchair on the balcony was damp and stained, smaller of the the bathrooms smelled damp. Please note this bathroom attached to the smaller bedroom has no door - not a problem for me as I was staying in this room alone. As I mentioned just attention to detail is required as the apartment is generally impressive.

Response from the manager Thank you for your review, your opinion means a lot to us so that we ca keep improving the apartment and our service. We will take note and do our best to fix those things for the future guests. Wish you all the best, Ema

“Wat een top plek! we hebben genoten”

Reviewed 21 Aug 2016

Response from the manager Thank you for your kind review. I am happy you enjoyed your stay and the terrace was a plus :) Wish you all the best, Ema

“Une belle semaine à Lisbonne”

Reviewed 1 Aug 2015

Response from the manager Merci pour les commentaires. Je suis contente que tout c'est bien passé.

“perfect stay hidden away in the old city”

Reviewed 27 Mar 2014

Friendly and helpful owners. Complete equipped 2nd floor apartment. Very nice and tastefully decorated place to stay. Hidden away from the street at the inner side of the outside walls there is a little balcony to have breakfast in the sun. Quiet little streets around. Some cosy far away talking of people in the late evening. 1 step from train and metro station. We used the train to go to a conference in Oriente. Also located in the middle of the old alfama-quarter. We both will surely consider return on this place when coming back to Lisbon. If you are big you will surely meet the beautiful big old oak beam in one of the two the bathrooms.

Response from the manager Thank you for your lovely review. I hope you didn't hurt yourself on the oak beam. Portuguese people are not tall so we don't have that problem but I will make a mental note and start alerting tall people for it;). I wish you all the best and I hope to receive you again in one of our apartments. Ema

“As advertised. ... this apartment in alfama allowed us to feel a”

Reviewed 26 Oct 2012

It was just what we were looking for, walking distance to all the attractions and excellent restaurants close by. The neighbours were friendly especially Maria at the bottom of the stairs. The location would not be appropriate for anyone who cannot climb stairs or walk up hills. You cannot drive to the door if you have a car but a taxi can. However, you still have 2 flights to the apartment. We loved it and wouldn't hesitate to recommend the apartment.

Response from the manager Thank you for your kind review. I will put in the descriptions that the apartment is not reachable by car although if you have reduced mobility we can arrange for your car to take you to the front of the apartment. About the two flights of stairs there is really nothing we can do. Your review is really helpful for us to make sure the next guests have all the info the need. Thank you so much. Kind regards, Ema

“Felt I was at home!”

Reviewed 25 Oct 2012

What a wonderful way to visit Portugal for the first time. Maria & Pedro were wonderful and made everything so easy from picking up at the airport to suggestions and tips for places to eat and visit. Wandering the streets of alfama we became familiar with many of the shopkeepers and neighbors. We were 4 single women and this was perfect set up with 2 bedrooms and 2 baths. Highly recommend this property, only draw back was it is noisy on Saturday night. Parties went on to wee hours of morning, but it did sound like fun.

Response from the manager I am so glad you felt at home! We try our best to provide that kind of experience to all our guests. Thank you so much for the kind review.
