“Fabulous view overlooking Caneel Bay”

Reviewed 21 May 2012

It's a good house with a fabulous view (the best feature). The kitchen was well stocked but really needs a garbage disposal and ice maker. I've never been in a house in the Caribbean that didn't have an ice maker. The 3rd bedroom on the ground floor was moldy and really needs a dehumidifier. Everything else about the house was great with the exception that the house gets no shade on the outside decks in the late afternoon (the worst feature). The service was wonderful. Any problems we had were taken care of immediately by Catered To.

“Breathtaking views”

Reviewed 11 Jan 2012

Our stay at Spellbound was nice. The kitchen was awesome and very well equiped. The pool was great too. We loved the telescope to gaze at all the boats down below. the only negative thing about this home is the lack of airconditioning. the rooms were very stuffy and the fans were not clean so they just created a stir of dust. We spent most of our time outside so it wasn't a big deal until bedtime. Catered to did an awesome job accomadating our schedules and getting our rental car lined up. They are a great company to use for rentals and we will definitely use them again.

“Splendid”

Reviewed 18 Aug 2011

We stayed at Spellbound for a week and truly enjoyed the view and the amenities. The only reason I cannot give an excellent overall was because we had requested the pool maintenance person make a visit as the pool was kind of bug-filled and many leaves at the bottom. It appeared the drain was working but it looked this way when we first arrived. We asked our concierge to contact the correct person and was told she would. That never happened. We loved the view, the amenities, the people in the town, the restaurants and the overall experience of St. John. We would definitely return.

Response from the manager Thank you for your review of Spellbound. We would like to apologize for the fact that the pool cleaner did not come after your call. Although we have a record of the call being made to the outside contractor that cleans the pool we do not know why he did not make it. We will review this with the pool cleaner in order to avoid this again in the future.

“Beautiful View”

Reviewed 8 Jul 2011

Spellbound is great. There is absolutely nothing to complain about except that is really needs a/c in the bedroom. (We knew it had none when we rented it.)The views are unbelievable. Pool is the best on St John. Great location. Great kitchen and baths. Catered To is also top notch. We had an electrical problem and it was solved in but a few hours!!! Yea.

“Really great...location, view and house.”

Reviewed 26 Apr 2011

As I said it was really great. Only 2 things about the house I would change: 1) heat the pool a little. 2) make the master bathroom a closed off room. it is too open the main living room.

“A delightful vacation at secluded and spectacularly scenic spot.”

Loved our stay at Spellbound. The villa has amazing views, a lovely pool and a well-appointed kitchen. Everything we needed for a relaxing interlude. We will definitely return.

“Spellbound”

Reviewed 27 Jan 2011

We loved our stay at Spellbound. We stayed for a week between Christmas and New Year with our young adult children. Each one of us loved sitting on the deck and enjoying that glorious view. It was hard to pull ourselves away. Generally, we'd try a different beach each morning and settle in by the pool at Spellbound by the afternoon. The kitchen is well provisioned so meals are easy to prepare. The driveway is tricky! I walked up and down to/from the house while the rest of our group drove. We'd love to go back.

“Beautiful Home and Property”

Reviewed 22 Apr 2010

I should start the review by mentioning the one problem we had with Spellbound: leaving. (Note: we partially resolved this problem by extending our stay). This property is absolutely beautiful. The views from the upper and lower balcony overlooking Caneel and Hawksnest are majestic and nothing short of awe inspiring. The landscaping is beautiful and the back yard alone is worthy of UNESCO Heritage Site status--there is even a half-size Easter Rock. Spellbound is in a remote and private location, a perfect contrast to the big resorts and monstrosities infecting certain hillsides on the island. You have to experience it to believe it. The home's amenities made the transition from the real world to paradise seamless. The house had everything you need for modern living. We shopped at Starfish and cooked almost every meal--slurping up pasta with a light lemon sauce, sitting on the balcony and enjoying a cooling breeze, a perfect sort of simplicity. During the days, we dove, snorkeled and hiked, including some rugged rock scrambling and hiking on non-maintained trails. We loved returning to Spellbound in the evening to unwind and relax. The sunsets are lovely and we took advantage of the telescope for evening stargazing. It is, however, an oasis and if you aren't restless, you could easily spend all your time just relaxing by the pool and enjoying the view. A final point: we really appreciated the courtesy, kindness and professionalism of CateredTo during our time in St. John. As examples, when our flight was substantially delayed, CateredTo kept track of our flight and had a greeter at the dock to meet us with our rental Jeep upon our arrival from the midnight ferry. When we decided to extend our stay, CateredTo helped us to find another rental car. I highly recommend this property and CateredTo to families and couples.

“The best property on St John”

This home features breathtaking views, 3 wonderful suites, beautiful landscaping, privacy beyond belief,a top notch kitchen and a pool. You will hardly want to leave once you arrive. An amazing service is to have the house provisioned so when you arrive there is no going to the grocery store. We have stayed here twice and would love to go back!

“WOW! What a view!!”

Reviewed 9 Jul 2009

Myself, my husband and our 4 adult children rented Spellbound in November 2008. We have been traveling to St John since 1995 and this was probably our 25 or 26th trip. Kids have visited about 10 times. We all love the north shore view. This vacation was a special treat from Dad, so we let the kids select the villa. They picked Spellbound, probably for the view and the pool, and the convenience to the beaches. We knew that our son and daughter in law would need A/C so with the king BR on the lower floor they were not disappointed. I walk with a cane so I needed a living area with no stairs. The upstairs master bedroom as well as the rest of the living area being on one floor was great. And the safe and easy access to the pool was great for me. Spellbound was a great value for us. Although showing its age, every room except the kitchen was in good shape. The kitchen was pretty dowdy, but functional, and we enjoyed its spaciousness. All 6 of us could be in there together, helping with the dinner. The dining area was well placed and comfortable; it afforded a great view and was convenient to the kitchen. The living room also offered a great view and all seating was comfortable. We could not get the cable TV to work all week but we did not call for assistance. Who cares about TV when the views leave you "spellbound". The house was very clean when we arrived, but, unfortunately, we had all matter of critters, except ants, in almost every room. Just one phone and the exterminator came and make things bearable again. Spellbound is located adjacent to the Myrah Keating Smith Clinic. We did not select the house for that reason, but on the night before our departue, I had a gall bladder attack and it was handy. I spent an additional 5 days at the houspital on St Thomas, then back to NY for surgery. Boy did we love Spellbound. We didnt even mind feeding Kenny's dog every morning. Updated,it would really be a knockout, and we would rent it again in a heartbeat.

Response from the manager Thank you for your review. We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay at Spellbound. We are also happy to report that the villa will be undergoing a full kitchen renovation this summer. We hope to see you again soon!
