“Beautiful little place to stay in Maui, but blocked views.”
This studio apartment was very nicely appointed and equipped with beach chairs and a couple of boogie boards, too. The only issues that we had were that the lanai had a large bush in front of it that blocked the beautiful view when sitting. and the refrigerator broke down on the last two days of our stay. If you want to sit on the lanai and watch the sun set, this is not the unit for you.
This unit fit our needs perfect. The grounds were wonderful, and beautiful views. Staff was friendly, pool was wonderful and clean, and the room was nice!
Papaka remains a fair value. The location is good. The problems are 1) new management is adding a $15 per day resort fee which is not worth it and 2) in past few years air conditioners have been added onto the lanais. They are very noisy if you are in the condo, or outside the condo especially if your neighbor runs theirs 24 hours per day which is what happened to us.
The front desk at Papakea were very nice , very pleasant staff. We found the Condo to be a little tired but very comfortable, maybe a coat of paint would help. Also a couple of fold up chairs for the Lanai would be nice , we had friends for dinner so it was a little awkward sitting outside to eat.We just loved the grounds of Papakea they are kept Beautiful, the view from this condo is really lovely. The location is great for shopping & restaurants , great Farmers Market & Fish Market within a short walking distance. Had a couple of great breakfasts at Java Jazz, very nice people there. I I am sure we will be spending time here again. Mahalo

It was better than expected. We were told our condo was price discounted presently because of some work being done close by and noise may be somewhat of a problem from time to time. It was no problem at all. Although we have been to all the islands in Hawaii three times, this was the first time in a condo setting. It was great! Once we figured out how to get in and out to highway 30, things were easy. We may consider a longer stay in the future. I liked the affordable rate we paid $85. per day/night. Could this be extended for maybe a month next year?
stayed at Papakea for 8 nights, reported a/C not working the first night we were there...after several phone calls and many promises of a speedy resolution to the problem, replacement of the a/C condenser, nothing happened. Was told the repair would be done on Tuesday of the week we stayed, we left on Saturday and no call or message on the door nothing!. Wrote a message to the info e-mail and was told the service man was in an accident on the way to condo?, I think whats up with that, don't want anyone hurt...but..could no one contact the customer?, is the a/C company a solo effort, no other alternative?, perhaps another service man or a different company perhaps? Who wants to stay in Maui without a/C?, especially when unit was advertised as having a/C. I wasn't satisfied with the stay, right from the first night I requested a room change or compensation...didn't get compensated till my letter to Chase'n Rainbows about my experience, and the issue not being solved while I was in Maui.sorry would not stay there again.
Response from the manager Mahalo for the time you took to write and post this review. We are sorry that you felt we did not provide the appropriate service to you during your stay. When we received the report that the air conditioner needed to be replaced we reached out immediately to the owner for the approval to purchase and install a new window A/C. Unfortunately yes on Maui is a small island and we have limited resources on who can service/repair and install window A/C units. We notified the guest of the install date only to find out that the vendor who was contracted to purchase and install the A/C was gravely injured and in the hospital after being in a serious automobile accident on his way to this service call. We can confirm that several calls were in fact made to this guest throughout their stay by all three of our maintenance staff members. The guest was in fact compensated for their inconvenience and we can confirm that the new A/C unit has been installed and is working perfectly .

Not Ocean front but very good views. The unit is very clean and quiet. Papakea is very close to a large super market so supplies are easy to get. The grounds are immaculate,and staff are friendly and helpful. We would be back next year if someone hadn't rented it already.
“Would stay here again!!!”
Check in was easy, the unit was clean and well prepared with all the accessories needed for our stay. The unit is in a very well looked after resort with access to a nice long beach walk. There is a supermarket within easy walkin distance, and a fine vegetarian market/deli about four blocks away. Lahaina is just a few miles down the road. A fine clean well managed unit, centrally located in west Maui. A bargain!

My experience with the condo did not start off well. I was given the key cards by the Papakea staff when the unit could only be accessed by the coded lock. Furthermore, I was not able to open up the attachment with the instructions on how to access the unit either on my or my wife's smartphone. I had to call Chase'N Rainbows' 24-hour number to rectify the problem. The file was the word document with the bulky Chase'N Rainbows logo that I strongly believe was the main reason for the problem. When I pointed that out, the response was that this is how Chase'N Rainbows has always done, which I thought was totally unacceptable. With the vast majority of people carrying smartphones nowadays this should never be an issue in 2012! Making a simple word file with the text only, or better yet writing the instructions directly in the e-mail, just like I experienced with so many other vacation rentals before, would have avoided the unnecessary aggravation. Even though the unit was clean, the fold-out bed was uncomfortable, and the aC placement was awkward, so that the air could not circulate freely throughout the room. If you do your research and avoid the tourist traps, Maui is a wonderful place to visit. Unfortunately, if you want to do so during the high season, you might want to consider forking out a little more cash to fully enjoy your stay. I would say, rent this one only if you are on a really tight budget and make sure to check that the instruction file opens properly, something that I was advised to do but did not (to be fair). The location itself was good, and the activities orientation during our first morning at the resort was helpful although Troy, the activities coordinator, could have been a bit more concise in his presentation, and my wife thinks that the breakfast was too skimpy.
Response from the manager Thank you for the time you took to post this response. Yes this condo has a keyless key pad entry for guest convenience. The unique door code for the stay was on the arrival documents that were e-mailed to you prior to your arrival and yes the e-mail does clearly state to print the documents out prior to flying to Maui. We also send an "Aloha E-Mail" a week prior to arrival reminding folks to print out their documents as well. If any guest has issues opening the documents we send them, we are always happy to provide the information in another format or verbally if necessary. We are glad you were able to reach out to our after hours emergency agent to assist you with the access ot the condo.
