“Sweet and Charming!”
Schoolhouse was perfect for our group of 7 women. Very nice and helpful owners, with the added perk of being allowed to visit the animals on the farm! House was clean and uncluttered. Great location! We will be returning.
“Schoolhouse cottage is an idyllic retreat.”
We travelled to the area for a respite from New York City with our two young children. The cottage was perfect for our needs - clean, quiet, well-appointed, and with activities galore for the children. We fed the horses and donkies carrots and apples, played with the three friendly farm dogs, and enjoyed a couple of proper horseback riding lessons for the kids. The owners of the farm are warm and friendly, and have taken every effort to be accomodating to their cottage guests. The farm is absolutely beautiful, with a backdrop of the Gunks - the horses are extremely lucky and well-cared for!
Response from the owner What a kind review! This family wanted a break as they calmly managed the stresses of moving from NYC to a new home outside of the city. We were glad that they chose the Schoolhouse at La Luna Farm for the break. It's always nice to how our farm and the setting offers a relaxing diversion - a getaway. Thanks!
Perfect place to spend a few days in the area. Beautiful house, exceptionally clean, and very convenient. My young son loved the hikes, and after a long day in the outdoors it was great to come back and play with all the great games and toys. We highly recommend it.
Response from the owner It's always great to see the Schoolhouse through the perspective of each guest. The house, for some, provides a comfortable landing spot after busy days touring the Hudson Valley! It's important to feel renewed and rested after hikes, museum visits, etc. This door is open to Roger and family : )
“Quaint, comfortable, idyllic cottage”
The cottage was our home away from home for our romantic weekend away. We arrived at a quaint cottage, impeccably decorated and so very welcoming. Tom was very kind and attentive to our needs throughout the weekend. We felt right at home and plan to come back with our two year old son one day soon.
“This is a perfect place - a dream!”
Julie & Tom were consummate hosts, and we felt welcome and warm the second we found the little driveway in the dark. The schoolhouse was both cozy and ample, and had everything we needed and more. We loved visiting La Luna Farm; being from the city, the animals were a ball! Surrounded by rural areas and woods and feeling remote and relaxing, it is a very short drive from main st. and town, where you'll find charming organic/vegetarian restaurants, antique shops, two record stores, and bookstores to lose track of time in. There are also several trails; we walked along an old railroad trestle and found a bell tower and brook! We had an amazing time and hope to come back soon.
My wife and our 5-year old stayed at this cottage for 2 nights and I cannot say enough great things! Tom and Julie were incredible in making sure we had all that we needed. We were even given a comprehensive tour of the property and we are also introduced to the many horses, ponies, and other 4-legged residents :) The cottage and the property are beautiful! The home was gorgeous and felt much larger than we anticipated. The interior of the home was spotless and looked to be designed by a professional. The property is breathtaking and even though it was freezing outside, we had plenty to do. Honestly, I cannot say enough great things. My sister is in the process of booking a getaway here in april. Thanks again Tom and Julie; I highly recommend this getaway!
I must admit I was expecting a few lazy days while staying at the Schoolhouse Cottage. I couldn't have been more wrong! Both the farm and the surrounding area offered fun and family friendly activities in abundance. We left our relaxing to the evenings, snug in the cottage, playing board games and watching the big screen tv. Tom was a wonderful host and showed us around his beautiful farm. Our daughters adored feeding the horses and donkeys carrots and apples. We intend to return soon so they can take riding lessons with Tom's wife Julie. The photos don't do the Schoolhouse Cottage justice. The space is spacious, light filled and modern. We are looking forward to returning!
Response from the owner ...With each new set of guests we learn new things about the house, the farm, and the season. These guests visited during our recent Winter blast of snow, deep snow. It was fun to know that they made an igloo, skied, cooked, played games, and enjoyed the embrace of the Schoolhouse Cottage. We'd love to have them back... spring, summer, or fall. We'll work on trying to take better photos!
“Cozy place, wonderfully situated.”
We stayed at the Schoolhouse Cottage during the Thanksgiving break. Tom and Julie were friendly hosts who made sure our stay would be fun and comfortable. The recently renovated (and historic) cottage was cozy, bright and inviting. The master bedroom is very large, the second bedroom is a nice size and there is a cozy area in the adjoining hallway for an extra bed or as a cozy nook. The living room is light and airy and connects with the kitchen and dining area. Of the many places we've stayed, the Schoolhouse Cottage had the best appointed kitchen ever! The cottage sits at the property edge and guests are invited to meander down the long driveway and along the trails that run through the property. There are friendly farm animals such as donkeys and horses that one may visit with during a stroll, and also peaceful meadows and views of the splendid ridge line The Schoolhouse Cottage sits nicely between New Paltz and Gardiner, and also Modena, giving one many options for dining in or take out or grocery shopping. One favorite was the new Hannafords in Modena where we were able to shop and avoid the crunch of traffic in New Paltz. Also, Gardiner had several nice breakfast places that served great food with great service. We took several hiking jaunts during our stay, and were about 5 minutes away from Gatehouse Road in New Paltz and less than 10 minutes away from Minnewaska. The Schoolhouse Cottage easily accommodated the five of us and we look forward to a return visit soon.
Response from the owner This is such a kind review and we were so pleased to have this family enjoy Thanksgiving at the Cottage and on the farm. They jumped -- or rather ran - right in by participating in our town's annual Turkey Trot which benefits "Family of New Paltz." Great cause and a wonderful way to see what all of us love about the New Paltz vibe and village. Please visit us again : ) TOM
“A great weekend getaway”
I had an excellent stay at the Schoolhouse cottage. Tom and Julie are very gracious hosts, and were careful to make sure that all of my needs were met. The place was spotless, and the scenery unbeatable. Highly recommended!
Response from the owner It was great having this guest at the Cottage; she quietly studied for a big exam and then took a few well-timed and well-earned breaks walking the farm. M is always welcome here : ) TOM
“A Wonderful Summer Retreat”
My family and I spent two very happy months at this historic cottage. The setting is private and beautiful. Our two small children (ages 5 and 1) loved the yard and the nearby farm with its horses, goats, chickens, and acres upon acres of pasture. The cottage has been recently remodeled and is in excellent shape throughout. The owners Tom and Julie were very helpful and responsive, with great tips on what to do in the area.
Response from the owner We loved having this family at the Schoolhouse...it's always nice to imagine what the farm looks like through the eyes of a 5 year-old. Most kids get here and love to run as soon as their legs hit the ground. Over time, though, they begin to observe nature a little more closely. This family relocated to New Paltz and used the Schoolhouse as a transitional base to explore our area and find their perfect house.
