“Paradise Found”

If you want to play Robinson Crusoe for a few days or a few weeks then come here. Imagine a perfect picture post card with powder white sands, palm trees swaying in the breeze along with stunning sunsets and crystal clear waters then you're here. The only time you'll be disappointed is when it comes time to leave. Beautifully clean and spacious house with alvin, Estrallia and Roger to look after you. I can recommend a 40 minute boat trip to San Vicente to top up on groceries and fish, we didn't need that much in the way of fish as we'd caught small tuna on the way. The only word of caution that I'd give is remember to apply insect repellent both first thing in the morning and early evening or the sand flies may bite.

Response from the owner Thanks Simon for your review. It was a pleasure to host your party. Hope to see you again soon. Mal

We frequently sat, in various locations around this wonderful establishment, pinching ourselves because we couldn't believe it was all real. Absolutely marvellous, stunning, fantastic were all words we used to try to describe the place. But none of the superlatives did it justice. Mal and Mich have a great setup there - I envy them.

“A haven for tranquillity and Relaxation”

Having travelled from the UK to meet up with our daughter and her partner who live in asia, this was the perfect place to relax, chill and spend some quality time with them. The location feels so remote you feel like the only people on the planet, but then you wake up and find that Estrelia has prepared your next meal, she was wonderful.

“What a spot!”

So fortunate to have found Gilligans. Definetly a highlight of my three month adventure in the Philippines. Great location, and extremely friendly and informative staff. For those seeking their own private piece of paradise, Port Barton and specifically Gilligans Guesthouse is an absolute must! Thanks again to Mal, Mich, Arnold and everyone who welcomed four Canadians into their extended family. See you next year!!!

Response from the owner You Canadians sure know how to have fun! Our staff are still laughing about the fun they had at "THE PARTY".

“The time of your life!!!”

Some experiences are just impossible to put into words. Language just does not do justice to the feelings and emotions and stimulation to the mind, body and spirit that some experiences create in you. So it was with our recent Gilligan's Retreat vacation in Port Barton on Palawan Island in the Philippines. Unforgettable, amazing, and truly one of the best experiences of our lives! So much delicious fresh food, such exquisite sunsets, wonderful swimming and boating, breathtaking scenery, friendly hosts and helpful caretakers that saw to our every wish, comfortable beds, and a quiet, serene setting...and what I bet was the coldest beer on Palawan Island!! Do this for yourself and your significant other. Life is short, we should all have this experience at least once in our lives. Surrounded by beauty, rocked to sleep at night by the sounds of the sea, greeted each morning by a warm, inviting sunrise. Do not sit on the fence wondering if you should go to Gilligan's (or their other magnificent property, Villa Marguerita), simply do as Nike suggests: just do it!! It is truly a once in a lifetime experience...that is unless you do as I am going to do. Go back as soon as I can!!! The perfect vacation, I cannot give it a high enough rating...words escape me. But once to go and see what I have seen and experience what I have experienced, you will be writing this review as well.

Response from the owner Wow! That's a great review beachcomber, and thanks for the generosity you showed to our staff. We'd love to have you visit again!

“You want to relax? This is the place!”

An excellent, private and quiet holiday villa an an almost private beach - you need a boat to get there; that means no road and no noisy traffic. The beach is shared with a few fishing families but you'll see hardly anyone whilst you relax... The villa is well equipped, well maintained and comfortable. It was a pleasure to sit in the rocking chairs on the verandah and sup cold San Miguel as the sun was setting... The caretakers, Alvin and astralia looked after us very well. A small payment too care of the cooking and cleaning (including laundry) so there really was nothing for us to do except enjoy the holiday. Even my boys, 10 and 12, found plenty to occupy them - stuff that they'd forgotten about back home with Xboxes and TV ruling their world. You want a boat trip to the islands? Alvin will do the honours - lunch on albaguen Island was particularly noteworthy and almost ridiculously cheap. Overall, 10 out of 10 for us. We'll be back at some stage in the future.

Response from the owner Thanks David for your lovely review and for sending me you terrific photos, some of which I have used on my web site and in my Flickr photo pages ( with credit to you ). Alvin and Estrellia enjoyed your company and generosity with your tip and they commented on the good behaviour of your boys. You were all so easy to please and a pleasure to host. Hope to see you again soon! Regards Mal and Staff

If you are looking for a tropical getaway, this is the place for you! A beautiful guesthouse set on the most beautiful tropical beach on the planet. The accomodations were simple, clean, and very comfortable. The staff was very freindly and considerate. Outdoor activities included swimming, boating, snorkling on the reef, and hiking in lush tropical forests. Gilligan's also had a number of open air patios with a gorgeous view and comfortable seating, which were perfect for reading a good book and enjoying the warm sea breeze. An unsurpassed vacation spot!

Response from the owner Thanks Jason, it was a pleasure to have you stay with us.

“A true getaway with great beaches.”

My wife an I stayed here for 1 week and found it to be a real "getaway from it all" experience. The accommodation was very clean, a bit rustic and situated right on a private beach. The caretakers provided our meals, and boat rides to other islands for very few pesos. We had the whole resort to ourselves and thoroughly enjoyed the privacy and the peace and quiet of this beautiful part of the world. Our hosts Mal and Michelle were excellent! It was the best hospitality that we experienced on our trip. It is well worth the visit, for anyone who appreciates privacy and tropical beaches. Even though we were not honeymooners, I think it would be perfect for newlyweds! Ron and Jenny

Response from the owner Thanks Ron and Jenny, it was a pleasure to have you stay with us. Our staff enjoyed your company and we'd love to see you again next time you are in Palawan, regards Michelle

“This place is amazing!!”

Mal & Michele, Thank you so much for the fabulous vacation!! I adored the staff and Gilligans was absolutely off the charts!! Everyday I would sit on the front porch drinking coffee and watching the water while figuring out what I wanted to do (or not do) that day. Alvin (caretaker) would bring me fresh coconuts from the trees and cut them open so I could mix my coctails with the juice, when I wanted to go snorkling, he would take me out to a reef, if I needed groceries/beer/anything he would appear with it and if I wanted to be left alone to enjoy the private beach, I was alone. I work a lot and when it is time for vacation, I want to relax without worry or stress and this vacation far exceeded my expectations. Everyone went out of their way to make sure I was well taken care of and even though the location of Gilligans is way off the beaten path, I never felt like I was isolated or couldn't get what I needed or wanted. Mal, please feel free to give my name and my email address to anyone that would like a reference or has questions and I am happy to correspond or talk with them. Ok... Summing up Gilligans, Hard to leave and impossible to forget! I will be back again hopefully in January. Again, thank you for everything. You, Mich and your staff are awesome! Gilligans is absolute heaven!

“An Escape From It all”

Dealing with the owner was a pleasure, he provided a lot of help and was 100% trustworthy. On its' own stretch of beach, near Port Barton (a great place gaining much popularity with travellers to Palawan) it's a real chance to escape from everything, and we spent our days on the beach, island hopping (there are many islands just offshore), fishing and walking and visiting the waterfalls. The caretaker became a good friend to us, and his wife was always around to cook, do the washing, or help in any way; which really adds to the holiday experience as you can relax and not worry about anything! The house is quite spacious, the main living area is open plan and the 3 bedrooms have good beds with nets, etc. It was great to sleep with the windows open listening to the waves washing up outside. The facilities are good, and you can choose to cook or be cooked for (in return for providing daily tips). I'd recommend if you want to enjoy a piece of paradise to yourself. There are no bars or restaurants, and hardly any other people in Nau Nau, it is only accessible by boat (the caretaker arranges all this for you and is a boatman himself). The beach/sea is lovely, and we had no issues with mosqitoes or nik niks, although did see some jelly fish in other areas (99% of which were not harmful). I've never seen so many stars and such a clear sky at night. We visited The Underground River by boat from Port Barton, and then travelled on to El Nido again by boat after our stay there. The seas were all calm, I had been a little concerned as you hear they can be quite rough at times. Gilligans was a great holiday experience, and I'd also recommend the owners other property in Port Barton, Villa Marguerita which we also stayed at. Palawan is fantastic, and whilst El Nido was amazing, and the Bacuit archipelago something else; I had a better time in Port Barton as I loved staying at these houses and the people who looked after us were great.
