“Perfect getaway”

Reviewed 10 Jul 2014

We went on a family vacation, 6 total to include 1 toddler. The home was the perfect getaway for us. The location is quiet, a little hard to find but if you follow owner's directions you are not going to get lost. The house is beautiful, it had everything we needed, barbeque grill, washer/dryer, playpen (a plus!) and even stuff for the beach. The view at night is incredible, from the top floor you can see the volcano erupting - no words to describe, we were just in awe. The beds were comfortable and I love the fact the we were able to cook everyday, which helped us save in money - did I mention that the kitchen is fully equiped? It has everything you will need. We had the best vacation in Hilo, and we will come back again - hopefully this home will be available again.........Rent it, you won't regret it :)

“Perfect Retreat”

Reviewed 21 Jan 2014

My husband, sister, and I spent five nights in this charming house. The property was well-maintained, secluded, and it was very exciting to see the glow of the volcano from the top of the stairs too! We made fast friends with the geckos and the rooster who patrolled the grounds - a very friendly fellow! The house cooled quickly after opening windows, and we only needed to use the fans one night during our stay. Off-the-beaten-path is just what we needed after spending our days touring the Hilo side of the island. I recommend arriving during daylight the first day of your stay, to ensure you can see the road signs. Everything was well marked, but it's very dark on the island after sundown (not many street lights). It was difficult to leave, but so glad we opted to stay outside the city. Would recommend this place to anyone looking for a peaceful retreat. Also, if you're in Hilo, check out the Hawaiian Style Cafe - go hungry - portions are as abundant as the hospitality on the island.

“Jungle get away!”

Reviewed 15 Jan 2014

We spent 4 days in Hale Ka Ikena Nani in December, while it was -3* back in Colorado. We really enjoyed the seclusion of this area that truly felt like we were away from it all. The house was clean and had everything we needed for a few days of sightseeing and relaxing. We enjoyed the meditation room and being able to walk to the lava beach and the wonderful little village of Kalapana - what a great find. We enjoyed good food and local music at the Kava bar on Wednesday night. Well situated for trips into Hilo, Volcanoes National Park or the must-see Red Road, this house was just what we were looking for to get away from the tourist mainstream for a few days. Thanks!

“Fantastic, lovely home!”

Reviewed 8 Oct 2013

The owner of this home is so friendly and helpful, which makes this place even better! The home is roomy, bright, and clean. Our bed was so comfortable, and the kitchen was completely well-stocked and easy to function within. The washer and dryer are a major help! The stars at night are unreal--you will not believe your eyes. It's off the beaten path, for sure, but so worth it. It's in good proximity to Hawaii Volcanoes Nat'l Park. Have no reservations about renting this place--you will love it!!

“I'll be back soon”

Reviewed 8 Aug 2013

The house is very nice and a good place to explore in the south of Big Island. Only minutes anway from the ocean an less then a 30 min. drive from Hilo. If you are looking for a party location, you will be wrong. But if you like the silence and the sond of the Ocean, you will love it. Like us! Thanks for all. See you soon. Greetings Marc

“Exceeded our expectations”

Reviewed 6 Nov 2010

Hale Ka Ikena Nani is one of those homes that pictures can not adequately capture. The home is brand new, airy and bright. You enter from the front deck to a huge living room and kitchen with a sliding glass door at both sides and 6 additional windows and a 25 foot arched ceiling. When the windows are open the home has a wonderful breeze that runs through it keeping it cool. There are two full sized bedrooms with super comfortable queen size beds, also with sliding glass doors, high ceilings and windows that also keep the rooms airy and cool. The kitchen is fully equipped and allowed us to cook 90% of our meals and there is also a huge outdoor grill. There is an additional 12x12 foot room that is reached by going outside and upstairs, and has 7 more windows that all open and also has a queen sized futon. The home would comfortably accommodate 6 people, (2 per room) plus there is a queen sized futon in the living room that could accommodate two additional people. The views are breathtaking and the home is private and quiet. There are only three other homes on the small street, but you can barely see them through the trees. The home has satellite TV, internet access, and a stereo with ipod hookup, and was immaculately clean when we arrived. This area of the Big Island is easily accessible and we found getting anywhere quite quick. Nearby are numerous swimming areas, two geothermally heated. The owners of Hale Ka Ikena Nani were a delight to deal with and were always willing to answer questions before we arrived. They have a binder in the house with detailed information on the area and with better directions than the guide books. There was also a manager who lived nearby, but we never had any reason to call them, but it was nice to know he was available if there was a problem. We highly recommend Hale Ka Ikena Nani, you will not be disappointed

“Perfect !”

Reviewed 4 Nov 2010

We spent two full weeks in this wonderful house. Everything was perfect! 1- The location is ideal, very quiet! 2- design of the house was perfect for our family (2 adults, 2 kids) Our daughters enjoyed having some independence thanks to the meditation room upstairs that became their private place! 3- we could enjoy multiple trip to the lava flow area, thanks to the proximity from the Kalapana area. We were so lucky as "Madame Pele" was quite active during this month! 4- we enjoyed cooking at home most of the time, thanks to all the wonderful fresh products that can be found there! Incredible fruits, vegetables, fish... Etc for very reasonable price! 5- we were close from all the nice spot located on " the red road" ( the black sand beach, Kapoho tide pools, etc...) 6- Hawaii volcanoes NP was a hit as well! 7- we could enjoy a nice musical in Kona's historical Palace theater. I could speak for hours about our experience! We will definitely come back to this house in the future! Thanks! Claude, Laurence, Jeanne and Charlotte!

“Would recommend to everyone!”

This house is wonderful, has everything you need, is comfortable, and very affordable. We wish we could have stayed longer and will definitely stay here again if we make it back to the big island. There was a lot to do nearby, we couldn't fit it all in during our 2 days there. The laundry was very handy, the kitchen was great. We loved it!

“Volcano Experience Up Close”

Reviewed 22 Sep 2010

Stayed in this immaculate house with 4 adults/4 kids. At night you could easily see the lighted smoke plume from the lava hitting the ocean (really neat). A great location for a stay on the volcano side of the island. Close enough to Hilo to go for dinner or closer options are aplenty in Pahoa. House is well appointed with lots of extra towels, sheets and blankets. For our two night stop over it was an incredible value, easy to book, and a great gateway to the Puna District which has an overwhelming number of amazing sights to see.

“Close look at Pele”

Reviewed 22 Sep 2010

This was a very nice house. Very cozy and with very much light. The view from the meditation room was great as one could see the glow of the lava flowing in the sea during the nights. Also it was great to just stand on the stairs and look up to beautiful skies with rainbows during the day and countless starts during the nights. The kitchen is well equiped and the badroom is in excellent conditions. The owners are very nice to communicate with and the payment process was very easy. An advice for people renting this house is to have a car as there are no grocery shops at walking distance.
