3 Full baths, 1 Half bath
Private oceanfront house located on Oahu's West (Waianae) Coast near Makaha Surfing Beach. Enjoy the deep-blue ocean and great sunsets from the lanai and large grass lawn. Nap to the sound of the waves. The property fronts coral reefs and is five houses to a sandy cove where green turtles come to shore and bask in the sand.
This estate consists of 2200 sq. ft of living space -- 1550 sq. ft 3BR 2BA on the second level (main house) and an additional 800 sq. ft 2BR 1.5 BA on the first level (ohana unit or in-law suite with separate entrance).
The main house is upstairs and consists of three bedrooms, two full baths, and is great for two families. Has a well stocked kitchen, living room, and is fully-furnished with 100% cotton sheets, towels, and beach towels. Comfortably sleeps up to 10. Three king size beds-one in each bedroom and two full sofa beds in the family room. We also two small children's futons and 2 pack-n-plays. Updated in November 2016 with new living room, dining room, and family room furniture.
The ohana unit (in-law suite) downstairs consists of two bedrooms and 1.5 baths (comfortably sleeps up to 6). Full wet bar (a kitchen without a stove or oven), living room, fully-furnished with cotton sheets, towels and beach towels. One bedroom has one full size bed, the other bedroom has two full size beds, and there is a full-size pull-out couch in the living room. Great for teens and for those with limited mobility (no stairs). Includes Smart TV w/ basic cable and Amazon TV.
Please note: there is no interior access between the ohana/in-law suite and the main house. You must use the exterior stairs to go from one unit to the other. Also, as a disclaimer, I should note the ceilings between the upper floor and ground floor are thin. Not too bad for adults, but children tend to stomp, and those little footsteps can be heard clearly from downstairs.
For smaller groups, please ask about special pricing for only the main upstairs dwelling (3BR / 2 BA), sleeps up to 10 comfortably.
There is high speed internet access for your laptop/tablet/phone throughout, and cell phone reception is good.
Out of respect for my neighbors, I do not allow large functions, parties, or weddings. Only registered guests may stay at the property.
The beach cove (2 minute walk away) is one of the few places were sea turtles frequent most days, you can snorkel with them and tropical fish like Humu'humu'nuku'nuku'apua'a
This is a non-smoking house, but outside and on the lanai is fine.

“Nice place to stay....”
Our stay on Oahu was nice and the Makaha property was clean and as described. The homeowner was very receptive to our questions and provided a wealth of information on what to do and where to go via an email prior to our arrival. The caretaker, Lia, was very nice and informative as well. The house itself was well stocked with basic necessities and we found the home to be comfortable. The decor is a bit tired and could use some updating. New towels and bedding would add a lot to the overall feel of a better stay. A place to put the outdoor furniture cushions during the rainstorms would be nice as well as it rained every day and once it stopped there was no dry cushion to sit on outside. With that said, the property was adequate for the price and we did enjoy our stay. The beach access, 5 houses away, was an easy walk and we enjoyed the turtles that did decide to come onto the beach to sunbathe for part of the day. This is a small beach, with rocks on either side, making it difficult to boogie board for the big kids, but perfect for the little kids that are wave-jumpers in the winter months. During our week stay the weather was not great, with frequent rain storms, high winds, and red flags on the beaches. We found ourselves driving south towards Waikiki most days to snorkel and enjoy the calmer beaches and see the sites of Pearl Harbor, Diamond Head, and the east side of the island. Makaha is not a tourist area, but we did find a great beach, more to the north, called Yokohama (I think), the last day of our trip. We were also told that Electric Beach, (the beach directly in front of the power plant on the main road), is a great place to snorkel, but given the weather conditions we never stopped. Overall, we would recommend this property to others that are looking for a more affordable place to stay on the island.
“Relaxing Christmas away From Home”
Our stay was very relaxing. The house was well maintained, clean, and comfortable. The view from the house was amazing! We loved that the location of the house offered us privacy, close beach access, and distance from the tourist areas. The description and pictures were accurate. The attraction guide in the home was very informative and helped us plan our days. We walked to Turtle Beach the first day we arrived, and saw 3 turtles on the beach. We also visted that same beach the night before we left and saw 5 turtles on the beach, 2 of which were in the process of coming to shore...very neat! Overall, we loved our stay! We also appreciated the friendliness and help of Lia, she was great. We would definitely reccomend to friends, and stay here again!
“Relax and enjoy Hawaii”
Guest Fun Traveler (Dallas, Oregon) Date of stay 02/09/12Review Submitted 02/27/12 wow! You must stay here. Excellent communication with owner. Excellent directions, instructions, and favorite things to do. Spacious, clean, well equipped home with awesome deck. Spotted whales every day. Three minute walk to turtle beach to see turtles and visit with the locals. Comfortable beds and bedding. Huge supply of clean towels. Well supplied kitchen. All necessary beach toys provided. Located in quite neighborhood away from hub-bub of Waikiki, but close enough to drive. Gracious owner and knowledgeable caretaker. Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway.
“Perfect house, perfect location, perfect vacation!”
This was a mother's dream vacation to have all her adult children in one place at one time. The house was clean, well-stocked and perfect for all activities from relaxing on the lanai, snorkeling in the cove with turtles, soccer on the lawn, lounging at the rock wall, challenging some great waves, boogie-boarding, hiking and climbing. Everything that my family enjoys was at our fingertips. We preferred to stay away from the touristy areas and this location was quaint and local. We loved the farmer's market and filled the house with fresh fruits and vegetables. One review commented on how hot the house got without a breeze. However, Lei provided valuable information that by running the fan for 10 minutes at night, it pulled the hot air out and we never had a problem. Thank you Sinclair for sharing your beautiful house and location. (If Lei ever decides to move out, my husband and I'll gladly retire and take over her duties!) Thank you Lei and "Mi' for sharing yourselves and the good company. I only wish I would have gotten a picture of "Mi" stretching and trying to do yoga with the girls on the lawn! We would highly recommend this location and look forward to coming back. Mahalo, Sheryl and Brian
“Great Beach House”
We stayed at this beautiful beach house for a week and enjoyed every minute of it. Perfect location if you have a rent-a-car because it is quite a drive from Waikiki. The house has a gorgeous view of the ocean and walking distance to the beach. It was also equipped with a high speed internet, kitchen appliances, pots and pans, towels, beach gears and etc. We highly recommend this place and plan to come back soon. It was great waking up to the sound of the waves which was glorious! Thanks to the cleaning lady and Lia, the caretaker who were so hospitable and welcoming! You guys rock!
“Get away from it all”
Get away from it all Guest Turtle Lover (Federal Way, Wa) Date of stay 06/19/12Review Submitted 07/09/12 What a great place to relax and unwind. Looking out on the water from the lanai while enjoying that first cup of the day. We saw a lot of sea turtles floating in the waves. We also saw them when we walked to aki's Cove (5 houses away). They make great swim buddies. We didn't want to be in the 'city' but wanted to be close enough for 'tourist' activities. This house was perfect for us. We didn't mind the drives and felt like we really did get away form it all. The house worked out great for us (family of 4). Not too big but not too small. Everyone had room to move around to read, watch TV, listen to music or just veg on the lanai. Well stocked kitchen and really comfy beds. Everything was well-kept and clean (I'm fussy about that kind of thing). We felt right at home. Lia and her sidekick akami (hope I spelled that right) were very friendly and welcoming. Would love to come back again! Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing. “Wonderful Hawaiian Retreat on Oahu”
I never experienced this kind of Hawaiian vacation before. In the mornings, from the balcony we could see humpback whales (in February) and in the afternoon, we could walk over and see turtles swimming and napping at aki's Cove. House comfortably accommodates two families. Lia, downstairs, was very helpful and prompt in answering any questions. Grocery stores and post office are conveniently nearby. This is a rural area so there are farmlands and some of the residents do keep roosters which some of us could tune out. Mornings are full of the sounds of pigeons and mourning doves and the continuous rhythm of the waves...
“Perfect for family vacation! Awesome”
I would absolutely recommend this beach house! It suited our family of four adults and five 12-15 yr-olds perfectly! It was very clean and we spent a lot of time on the Lanai when there! It had a well stocked kitchen, new appliances and lots of conditments in the cupboards and 'fridge. The king size beds were comfy and the family room converted to a fourth bedroom! A high speed exhaust fan helped cool off the house in short order! We appreciated the two large bathrooms, well stocked with towels, but enjoyed outdoor showers due to the large amount of sand we would invariably bring home after boogie boarding or bodysurfing at Turtle Beach! watching Green Turtles floating in the ocean just past our seawall was a everyday pleasure! Summer is just the best time to visit Hawaii and we make sure Makaha is on our list when we stay. The recreational activities in this area suited out three generation family so well. We experienced swimming with dolphins in Makua Bay -they actually came back to swim around and under us!! We saw turtles akai Beach nearby, a monk seal in molt just past Ko Oina and 3 Spotted Rays (Turtles Beach) within 15' of the kids swimming! We discovered calm Pokai Beach (Army Rd) and enjoyed snorkling along the breakwater! There are grocery stores nearby as well as Costco and many other shopping and great restaurant choices in Kapolei. Le'a downstairs was the source of alot of valuable information!
“Charming, Relaxing, Stunning!”
Our party of six adults visited Oahu & stayed in this lovely oceanfront property between 11/01-11/08. After much research, we chose this property because it is large, budget friendly, & oceanfront. Trust me when I say, we were not disappointed! We arrived to a clean, airy, well stocked & equipped island abode. You will not miss anything from home while you are here, everything is provided. Lia, the caretaker who greeted us was friendly & helpful with suggestions on the best activities to do & see during our stay. She laughed when we told her she is an "internet sensation". Beds are clean, comfortable, & plentiful, bathrooms are spacious with plenty of towels. The kitchen is well equipped with modern appliances and ample cookware for the most ambitious meals. Washer and dryer make it easy to pack less & wash more. Two separate living areas in the house, both with cable tv, provide ample room to sit & unwind, but I'm sure you will spend most of your time on the lovely lanai. We spent mornings there drinking coffee & watching turtles play in the tide pools behind the house. This is also a perfect place to enjoy the island breezes & stunning sunrises & sunsets. Wonderful! Walk about 5 houses down & enjoy the beach while watching sea turtles play. We were lucky enough to see 2 of these magnificent creatures come right onto the beach. Awesome! The outdoor shower is great for skimming off sand and salt before making your way back to the house. Locals are friendly & there are plenty of places to get groceries & fast food nearby. You will definitely need a rental car, this property is not located in a touristy area, but you will really enjoy the quiet. We liked the fact that there is plenty of parking and the property is gated, so there is a sense of extra security. Overall, we loved our visit, loved the place, and would love to come back someday and stay again. If you are looking for a beautiful, affordable, comfortable place, stay here. You will not be disappointed.
“Ocean Front Vacation Home away from it all!”
When my wife and I were looking for a place to stay in Oahu, we needed a place to sleep 5 adults, 1 teenager and 1 baby comfortably. Luckily, we came across this ocean front rental that had everything we were looking for plus more! Basically when you look at the pics provided, just imagine a nice ocean breeze with the sound of waves crashing just a few yards away. Then, imagine seeing sea turtles floating by... *sigh* miss it already! We probably spent 80% of our time sitting on the lanai watching the turtles float past. On to the smaller details, this house seriously has it all. Lia, the caretaker is very considerate and extremely helpful. There's a washer and dryer, lots of beach toys (snorkel gear, beach chairs, sand buckets and toys, boogie boards, skim board, and other floaties), all the kitchen utensils needed, coffee maker, pots and pans, toaster, rice cooker, bbq grill, plenty of beach and bath towels, fans in the bedrooms, clean, updated, wifi, ipod docking station for music, etc. Its basically a home away from home! You definitely need a rental car, especially if you want to explore the island and go eat, since Oahu has some really good restaurants spread across the island. Closest grocery store is about 5-10 minutes away, and the closest tourist heavy resort is about 25 minutes away (depending on how many red lights you hit). We look forward to staying here again, hopefully very soon! Thank you! Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.
