SATINWOOD - Located high above Coral Bay looking out on the East end of beautiful St. John. Tropical trade winds provide constant cooling; awaken to spectacular sunrises and breathtaking views. Relax and watch the sailboats from the covered deck. Inside on the main level, the great room features an entertainment wall with color cable TV, DVD player, stereo with CD and discs, books, puzzles, and games. With comfortable sleeping arrangements for up to 10 guests, 3 full bathrooms, dishwasher, service for 12, and much more, Satinwood is sure to exceed your expectations. Satinwood is solar powered; free from ties to the island's utilities. But you won't even notice that fact. The storage battery bank and backup generator provide reliable and earth-friendly energy for all your needs. The unique design of Satinwood's energy and water system provides year-round comfort.

To conserve on water, Satinwood uses Clivus Multrum composting toilets/ These are massive, commercial grade composters that do not require and guest support or service. The units have power vents and are non-obtrusive. These are not the silly little bucket composters seen on Youtube.

Getting around

A car rental is required. For some areas of the island, if you want to explore, a four wheel drive vehicle is recommended. To get to and from Satinwood, as well as the best beaches and restaurants, four wheel drive is NOT needed. We usually recommend renting a car on St. John. This does mean that you have catch a taxi at the airport to get to the ferry at Redhook, but the people ferry does run l;ater than the car ferry, the shared taxi drivers get you across crowded St. Thomas, with left hand roads and odd intersections, and sometime provide a good introduction ot the islands' culture. Renting a car on St. John does not allow St. Thomas shopping trips.

Interaction with guest

Guests will be supported on St. John by our property managers. They have full time staff to help with any issues that might arise as well as help with suggestions for restaurants, hiking trails, national park sights, beaches, charters, and other activities. In many cases, their concierge can help with provisions, reservations and other things even before you arrive. Some of these may require an additional fee payable to our property managers.

House rules

By design and location, the house does not have air conditioning.
Limit use of excessively power-hungry appliances such as hair dryers and curling irons.
To conserve water, Clivus Multrum composting toilets are used.
The pool is not fenced separately.
Be aware of the stone steps if a member of your party has difficulty managing steps.
The two lofts are accessible by fixed wooden ladders and are not suitable for younger children.
Please do not rent over-large vehicles; they will not fit.

How do damage deposits work?
