“This has been a most pleasant stay.”
From day one until the last day, other than the weather, which was wetter than we expected...and outside human control, everything went very smoothly. From Rubio, the caretaker, to angela, the maid, to Mary and the group at Caye Management the service was excellent. Even downtown everyone was friendly and helpful; no one seemed to be gouging the tourists more than would be expected. We especially enjoyed being away from the noise of the town area. The gentle sounds of the ocean and the cool breezes through open windows made the nights restful. We opted for travel by golfcart. Yes, the road is pretty rough, but I liked the ability to just go right now without waiting for the Coastal express. And, yes, we are well above the "40 or so" mentioned by Lorna. Advice...don't pack a lot of clothes. This is T-shirt and sandal country. (You might also want to wear some shorts beneath the shirt.) If you really want to dress up, wear a shirt with a collar. You will more than likely buy some T-shirts (from $12.50 us to $20) anyway and if you want "Island" shirts Caribe Creations can make them for you (in one day) cheaper than you can buy them back home. No shirt...No shoes...No problem!
Response from the owner Thank you, Rick! We look forward to seeing you again at the Tree House!
From the first cup of great Belizean coffee on the veranda each morning to falling asleep by the sound of rustling palm leaves, our 2 week stay at the tree house was extremely relaxing. We loved the long walks on the miles of sandy beaches, stopping for a lunch or drinks along the way. Every walk was a different adventure. During our first walk we met a local on bicycle selling fish and lobster tails. He then periodically came by the house with his fresh catch which we cooked on the grill. Eating fish that was caught only hours before is epicurean delight! Our arrival was made easy by armando who picked us up at San Pedro airport and transported us by boat to the tree house. Before boarding the boat, he took us to a supermarket where we bought our initial supplies. The ride on armando's boat through the mangroves and along the ambergris Caye was a wonderful introduction to the area. The house is well situated near a costal water taxi stop that took us to San Pedro for restaurants, shopping or ferries to Caye Caulker. It was also an easy and lovely walk along the beach to nearby restaurants, each affording us outdoor seating under the palms looking out at the reef, where we enjoyed the excellent local beer and food. Close by is Matte Grande, a surprisingly well stocked store where we purchased our food. The owners were very friendly, providing delivery right to the house as well as being a wealth of information about what to see and do. Don't miss the delicious weekend barbecue, right beside the store. The kayak at the house provided us with easy access to the nearby barrier reef for swimming and snorkeling. We went on an amazing snorkeling boat trip to Hoi Chan Canyons Marine Resort and Shark and Ray ally with Coral Reef Divers. Genie, the diver-owner and a neighbor, and his crew provide a wealth of information about marine life and local lore. But best of all, was experiencing relaxing island living. We will come back!
This house is an absolutely wonderful retreat for those who are looking for a complete getaway from everything. The house was very welcoming and extremely well appointed with modest but tasteful decor. The location was perfect for our needs. It was a bit of a distance from town but had a small convenience store nearby for our immediate needs. This is actually what we liked best about it...we felt away from it all but if we ran out of something, we weren't too far from a store. The best part of the Treehouse is its location. You feel as though you are away from everything. There are local residents nearby and some tourists but the overall experience is extremely private and restful. Our time on ambergris Caye was exceptional. The weather was perfect every day and the people were very friendly. It is a holiday that both of us will remember very fondly. Lorna has done a great job of making her home very inviting and user friendly. Thank you Lorna for making our time so very comfortable.
Response from the owner So glad you enjoyed my home! Thank you, Lorna
“A lovely stay at the tree house!”
The tree house was perfect - right on the water, nicely furnished, and equipped with everything we needed for a fun and relaxing vacation (kayak, snorkeling equipment, grill, blender, a dive master neighbor, and access to the water taxi). On top of all of this, we loved that it was a small private home that we could afford, not just another unit in a condo complex or resort. We are a young and active couple so access to the water was perfect for us - water activities for fun and the view for relaxation! We used the house kayak & snorkeling gear almost daily. We were even able to kayak all the way to the reef and see some amazing stuff out there! We hung out on the hammock under the house and watched the friendly people go by. On our first day there, we were hanging out under the house and bought burritos for lunch from "the burrito guy" who rides by on his bike. This turned out to be our daily ritual (he even brings delicious tamales upon request). What could be better? A major highlight of the trip was a fishing and snorkeling trip with the neighbor Dive Master, Genie. We caught a bunch of fish (Snapper, Grouper), had a great time snorkeling, and then grilled up our fish for dinner! The best fish I've ever eaten...it was truly an amazing day! Evenings we went on long walks at sunset and were escorted by dog friends, had a drink at nearby restaurants or grabbed food to grill for dinner at the Mata Grande store and even had at a BBQ there one afternoon. I could go on and on about how amazing this trip was and how we enjoyed the Tree House, but all I have left to say is... when we left we started planning next year's return to the Tree House!
Response from the owner So glad you had such a great time. Just wanted to let future guests know that snorkeling equipment is no longer provided (it kept getting lost!) So bring your own or plan on renting from Geni next door.
