“Exceeded High Expectations !”
Having seen the gorgeous pictures advertising this property, we expected quite a lot, but the reality when we saw the house and garden, exceeded even our expectations and in truth as good as the photos advertising the property are they don't begin to do this lovely house justice. On arrival, we received a really warm welcome from the owner who showed us around the house and explained where all the local amenities were. The village of Caunes-Minervois is stunning and between the village amenities and the house our every need was catered for. We made several trips whilst we were here, Carcasonne, Minerve and Sete and after a long day sightseeing, it was a pleasure to return to Caunes and this lovely house each evening.. We were here for a week and my only complaint is that it was not nearly long enough.......................................
“An absolute delght”
Five 70+ women had a wonderful time in this quaint, ancient village with its narrow cobblestone streets and beautifully restored houses. La Maison Verte was all that we had hoped it would be from the photos, and more. Ingrid has done a wonderful job of furnishing and decorating so that the house is warm and friendly, full of light, with beautiful views over the garden and all mod cons. This was not just a house but a lovingly restored home with the books, CDs and nick nacks that mnake it so. We really appreciated the delicious meal from a local restaruant that awaited us on our arrival. Boulangeries and restaurants are just a few minutes walk from the house. However, we were often caught out when the shops closed for lunch. We wanted to be off the beaten tourist track but just a short drive brought us to attractions such as the Canal du Midi and Carcassonne. There are lots of gorgeous villages and spectacular scenery in the nearby Black Hills that should not be missed. Ingrid and Christopher could not have been more charming and helpful. If it were possible we would all love to repeat this memorable experience. This was a really unique holiday and one that we would thoroughly recommend to others.
“It is the most fanciful, artistic house I've ever stayed in.”
I went to Caunes for the first time this summer for a painting workshop run by my teacher, Glen Moriwaki. The village was ancient and simply charming. Before our trip, Ingrid sent all the essential information about the village, direction to get there and offer to stock up the fridge or order home cook meals for us. Upon checking into La Maison Verte after a long day's shopping excursion with my painting group in Carcassonne, Ingrid was wonderfully serene and calmly walked the whole house through with us. When she sensed we were tired, she just left us to settle in. I was so taken in by the house. It was like walking into Matisse's paintings. There were so much and yet everything worked beautifully together to heighten our senses and sensibilities. The first day we were greeted by a large fanciful herbal bouquet on the kitchen counter. We used it for cooking and infusion through out our stay. In the second week, we found a vase full of peachy heirloom roses set on the kitchen table. Such a delight after a long day's painting to come home to. There were bicycles in the garage and I used it to travel to and fro the workshop at Berges. Life couldn't be any better when you live in a beautiful house in south of France, eat well and paint furiously. I had a most memorable summer ever.
Response from the owner Dear Minjen, Thank you for a wonderful review. It was a great pleasure to have you and Cerena to stay in our house. Hope you come again. Lots of love, Ingrid.
“Beautiful house in charming village”
We stayed for one week in this wonderful house. Everything was just as shown and described. The owner has taken care of all the details so that you can just relax and enjoy this lovely region of France.
“A Dream Come True”
As another reviewer wrote, what can I write about La Maison Verte that hasn't already been said? Every review reflected our experiences in this most lovely house, owned by the most gracious and interesting people, and located within a perfect village in Southern France. To celebrate our 60th birthdays, my husband and I decided to finally make our fantasy of travel to France a reality. We didn't' search too long for a place to serve as home base because we were lucky to have located La Maison Verte early in our planning. While the two of us certainly didn't need such spacious accommodations, we were immediately drawn to the décor, the terrace, the garden, and the village of Caunes. Our experiences once there exceeded our expectations, and having a roomy house was simply perfect after spending a week of touring other parts of France. We thoroughly enjoyed our strolls through the village each day. Everything we needed was within walking distance, and it was a dream to explore all the nooks and crannies of this old, old village. Thank you, Ingrid and Christopher! We would go back in a heartbeat!
Response from the owner Dear Mary and Fred, I've just read your review and I'm really touched. Thank you so much for your generosity. It would be so good to see you again. Very best wishes, Ingrid.
We loved everything about this house and our stay in Caunes. First, the house was lovely with great french decor. The gardens beautiful and the town, small but perfect. It really felt like home.We have already recommended it ot our friends!
“Superb in every way!”
It is not easy to write a review about our stay at La Maison Verte without repeating what everyone else has said already. So perhaps we should simply say that nothing has changed: La Maison Verte is still the most wonderfully charming place to stay, hosts Ingrid and Christopher are friendly, welcoming and informative, and one week was simply not enough time for us here. There is much to explore and enjoy in the surrounding area: history; beautiful countryside; great markets; good food; delicious cheeses; superb wines; friendly people, and so the list goes on. But at the end of the day, coming home to the delights and tranquility of La Maison Verte was an absolute treat. We intend to return!
Response from the owner Dear Lois and Peter, Thank you so much for taking the trouble to write your lovely review. It was very generous and thoughtful, too. Enjoy the rest of your trip and it would be wonderful to see you again either in France or in Canada. Very best wishes, Ingrid.
“A wonderful month in Caunes-Minervois”
We found La Maison Verte by searching the internet and got hooked immediately... a small typical village in Southern France, a lovely house with an old France feel to it, with access to lots of sites to visit, shopping and restaurants. We wanted to live a month "À la FranÇAise"... French food, French Wines and landscapes that defy description. So, we booked, time flew, we flew, and before we knew it we were welcomed by the two best hosts France can offer : Ingrid and Christopher. We were given keys and a tour of the house, which should have taken 15 minutes but actually took over an hour because there was so much to appreciate in the decor, fine details, the terrace, the garden... in other words the house was way better than what had been shown on the internet site and we were immediatel in love, both with the house and our hosts. Friends and family came to join us for part of the time and there was plenty of room for privacy as well as shared fun and dining. The village and the area also have lots to offer, but I will not act as a tourist guide here. There are plenty of sites for that. So how to conclude? Well in the words of my wife Monique: best vacation ever!
Response from the owner Thank you, thank you, thank you for a wonderful review and an even better visit. You'll just have to come and see us again. Bisous et les bénédictions, Ingrid and Christopher.
“A lovely place to relax after a long period of travel in Europe”
We stayed at La Maison Verte on the recommendation of our daughter who had previously stayed with Ingrid. The house was enchanting and around each corner was a surprise. Our six days there gave us lifetime memories that we hope we can repeat in the future. Choosing not to have a car made us walk and enjoy the village atmosphere in the narrow cobblestone streets and we managed to visit all the eating establishments. The house with all its books and spacious areas to relax in, was perfect. Our hosts, Ingrid and Christopher could not have been more helpful or hospitable. We highly recommend La Maison Verte to everyone.
“An absolute delight!”
The very first moment we made online enquires about La Maison Verte, Ingrid responded immediately. For us this was a very good sign! She continued to promptly (and patiently) answer our many questions. We finally booked (2 adults and 2 teenagers)for a week in July 2012. As promised Ingrid met us personally on our arrival in Caunes; one of the most beautiful French villages we have ever been in. She gave us a tour of the house, explained how things worked and made sure we knew how to contact her if we had any problems; a very personal and much appreciated service. La Maison Verte is an absolute delight; so quirky and tastfully decorated. The bedrooms are spacious and comfortable with luxurious bedlinen and fluffy towels! The bathrooms (one ensuite) are spotlessly clean and the kitchen is such fun to cook in. Three reception rooms meant our teenagers could relax in their own space whilst we enjoyed chilling out in the gorgoeus little garden. There was nothing more enjoyable than coming back after a great day out and having a glass of wine or two in the garden or terrace (where we ate all of our meals). Caunes Minervois is a great base for sight seeing. We particularly enjoyed visiting the mountain village of Minerve and Lastours (the four ancient forts). Our teenagers had great fun at the lake close to Carcassonne because of its small water adventure park. With regard to eating out Hotel D'Alibert is a must. We celebrated our son's 18th birthday there. We sat in an ancient courtyard, enjoyed good food and had fun with the eccentic owner, Frederick. La Maison Verte is highly recommended by us.
