“Excellent, beautiful, comfortable home”

Reviewed 12 Oct 2014

The house has a beautiful architecture with very nice nice terraces that have great views over the city. It's very cozy with great beds and large bath-rooms. Well-equiped and nothing missing. Ideal location to visit this beautiful city.

“Wonderful place to stay”

Reviewed 5 Jan 2014

We have been to San Miguel a few times before but we wanted to step it up and have a home that was as beautiful as the town itself yet right in the heart of the historic center. Casa Joya was all that and more. We'll recommend it to friends and will plan a family trip to stay here next year.

“Architecturally stunning”

Reviewed 24 May 2013

Hola Iona: Not only is this truly a beautiful home, it's so close to everything you want to get to. This place is not only in the Centro, but the Centro Historica (even better) so it's so walking distance to the covered food market, artists market and the main plaza or Jardin as they call it. What I liked best was the use of space, the angles, colors, shapes of this dramatic place: lots of eye candy, but also very comfortable and relaxing after a long day shopping and visiting wonderful San Miguel. Thanks so much for allowing us to share your home. We'll be back, hopefully soon.

“Way beyond our expectations”

Reviewed 24 May 2013

When we read the description of Casa Joya it seemed to good to be true. But when we got here it turned out to be even better than expected. Sweeping views, centrally located, beautiful regional art, and an amazing architectural design. We felt right at home and very comfortable in this light-filled, airy, amazing retreat in San Miguel (which is also a beautiful, wonderful town). Casa Joya fits right in. The appliances, beds and bedding and other amenities were the quality, as the owners stated, that they'd expect from their own home and it shows. We ate out sometimes but it was easy and fun to cook from time to time, and we definitely had evening cocktails on the 2nd floor outdoor patio with views of all of the churches and cathedrals. It was a short walk to the center of town, and food and art shopping is just a few blocks away. The local service providers including the property manager and the maid (who comes in 3 days/week) were all kind and generous. We will definitely come back.

“Our Family had the best Christmas ever at Casa Joya!”

Iona, I want to thank you for letting us stay in your amazing Casa Joya home in San Miguel. We had an incredible time and the architecture and layout of your home is brilliant - we were so happy there and in that part of town. Sara and Family

“One month at Casa Joya in San Miguel de allende”

Reviewed 23 Dec 2011

I choose San Miguel de allende for it's culture, beauty, weather in November and December and artist colony. What I got was that and so much more. Casa Joya was the perfect location. You are able to walk almost anywhere and we did. We did not rent a car. (If we needed to go further, we would take the very available and inexpensive cab.) It is a beautiful and comfortable home. Our daughters flew in for Thanksgiving, and the house provided everyone space together, and apart. Iona, the owner and the people in San Miguel who take care of their home including annie at San Miguel Rentals were all wonderful, both prior to departure and during our stay. They assisted us in planning, recommendations, and answering the many first timer questions. We (my husband and I) decided to go for a month our first trip. It was the perfect amount of time. I took many water color and drawing lessons from Edina Sargent in the Fabrica aurora, a 7 minute walk. She was patient and a wonderful teacher. I took photo transfer classes from Linda Soberman in San antonio area. I loved all of my classes. My husband golfed at Manlenquin regularly, and the ex-pats there took him under their wing and included him in on twice weekly tournaments. It is a course with many trees and very challenging. My husband enjoyed it very much. Restaurant choices were plentiful and wonderful. Some of note include Socialitte, Companio, El Correo, El Pegaso, Dos Casas, Longhorn Grille and Ten Ten Pie. The Jardin is a 5 minute walk from Casa Joya and we were able to enjoy incredible live opera for free. We also went to the Jazz Festival, and the final evening, a Tribute to Stevie Wonder was incredible. The cost of going to San Miguel is inexpensive, and the absolute best part is how warm and friendly the residents and ex-pats are. They are happy, and it is a happy, relaxing place to. Thank you Iona, and thank you San Miguel.

“Wonderful stay!”

Reviewed 28 Sep 2011

Hi Iona, Just wanted to let you know that we had a wonderful time at Casa Joya -- and we really enjoyed San Miguel very much. I think the TV got turned on once for about 5 minutes! You can expect to hear from us again as we can see ourselves visiting many times. With the little one, we couldn't make get up to the terrace as much as we would have liked, but it sure is a beautiful view. Our 8 year old girl especially raved about the house architecture. And Marta was an excellent babysitter. I think you'll find everything in order with the house.

“Fantastic House, Excellent Location”

Reviewed 6 Jun 2011

This house is fabulous, an easy few blocks to the center of town. It is located off of a quiet alley, and has a wonderful contemporary design and beautiful tiled bathrooms. This three story home had plenty of room for our group of four. Not only does it have a sweet courtyard, but the best is the top floor deck, with great views of the town, lots of cushy seating and privacy. Very comfortable and upscale. Lots of window, lots of light. But really, this place is about location, location, location. We walked everywhere, and didn't have to hike up the big hill!

“Lovely art, quiet and comfortable”

Reviewed 17 May 2011

A beautiful. clean, comfortable, compact house, thoughtfully decorated, in a prime location. Lots of local artwork added to the charm. Gorgeous views and cool night air on the third floor terraza. Centrally located so minutes from the main mercado and a short 10-minute walk from the jardin, the biblioteca and dozens of restaurants. A steep, 20-minute uphill walk will take you to the botanical garden. The house has a small footprint but great use of space -- though the curving, winding stairs from the first to the top floor may not be good for those who have trouble climbing. The ensuite bathroom in the first floor master bedroom is spacious and colourful while the bathroom on the second floor has a gorgeous Mexican tiled sink and shower. The house is anonymous from the outside, situated on a very quite alley off a main street in the heart of a lively Mexican community. Roosters and barking dogs are part of the charm.

“Amazing vacation in Mexico!”

Reviewed 9 May 2011

I would have to say that my trip to San Miguel de allende was amazing, and staying at this vacation home made it that much better. Located very centrally within walking distance to town made getting fresh tortillas in the morning and returning home late at night very convenient. The house is stunning - can't really say what my favorite thing would be about it. We turned the fountain on everyday for relaxation, ate breakfast in the little courtyard, spent every evening on the rooftop terrace watching the sun set. It was really a home away from home. The TV room was great, as my friends and I brought a bunch of movies to catch up on. Tip: there is a wet bar in the TV room, stock it up right away so you don't need to walk up and down to the kitchen for beverages! My friends and I all agreed, we would go back in a second.
