“Flamingo Beach Gem!”

Reviewed 26 May 2015

Spent 2 weeks at Villas this past March 2015 with family and could not be happier with our decision! The charm of the resort sets it apart from any that we later toured through our daily trips/adventures. The grounds are impeccably maintained by the wonderful hosts - that take it upon themselves to ensure your stay is top notch. The property is nestled on a beautiful hillside that is breathtaking for viewing the countryside/ocean/sunset and local wildlife - while close enough to local shopping (grocery), restaurants and 3 distinct beaches! Or you can stay on site and enjoy the view poolside from what we think was the nicest pool environment around! Many tours are available with direct pickup right from the steps of the property - so never a shortage of things to do in the area - or just sit back and relax what truly is a lush tropical paradise.

Response from the owner Thank you so much for your kind Review ! It is always rewarding to be able to offer a memorable stay here in our little corner of Paradise ! Your comments are very much appreciated ! We hope that you will be pleasantly surprised at the recent changes we have made to the gardens - mainly clearing out some of the palm tree overgrowth in order to open up the vistas of the ocean, etc. ... Always a labour of love on our side that will hopefully pay off in appreciation from our guests ... The wildlife here is flourishing, as are Lorita - our talking, singing Amazon parrot - and her other parrot friends ! We are doing our level best to safeguard our furry and feathered friends here ... preserving our many hectares of private preserve for future generations, too. We look forward to your return to our little corner of Paradise and again thank you for your recent visit and encouraging words. PURA VIDA ! Tom and Igor Villas Casa Loma

“Favorite Getaway”

Reviewed 19 Mar 2015

This is my second stay at Villas Casa Loma. Although there are plenty of options for accommodations around beautiful Flamingo Beach, I wouldn't consider staying anywhere else. The property is beautiful and the owners are on site and always willing to help with whatever you need. From the private front porch of my Villa, I was able to enjoy gorgeous sunsets into the Pacific Ocean every night. The pool is beautiful, quiet, and relaxing. If your interested in venturing off to the many outstanding sights in the area, the owners have all the answers. They will help with scheduling any of your activities. Villas Casa Loma is my favorite place to unwind and I will be back as soon as I can get there.

Response from the owner There is always something to do in and around Villas Casa Loma ! Starting from the open and spacious enclosed living areas, extending out to the large terraces, pools, gardens, unsurpassed ocean vistas, mountain views and spectacular sunsets. Active guests enjoy the close proximity to excellent hiking, horseback tours, scuba diving and birding excursions, zip line tours and sightseeing to mention only a few options... For the sedentary life, nothing could be more comforting than just to lie on a chaise under the palms or a palapa reading, visiting with other guests or just vegetating in the clear ocean breezes... We as owners are constantly on the lookout for things to do that will meet the specific needs of our guests and really appreciate your comments... Thanks for the kind Review. We are really looking forward to seeing you here again in our little corner of Paradise ... Until soon... PURA VIDA !! Tom and Igor

“Well deserved rave reviews !”

Reviewed 15 Mar 2015

Everything wonderful you read here is true ! We stayed at Villas Casa Loma for a month of warmth... away from the cold northeast. Our villa #301 was exactly as shown and more spacious than expected. The view of the harbor from our terrace was beautiful at morning coffee time and breath taking at sunset ! We are a couple in our late 60's and were very happy to have a rental car to get down the "mountain" for activities. There are many charming small towns nearby to explore, lots of nice restaurants and convenient shopping for groceries. We also spent many days just enjoying the beautiful pool and the company of the other guests. If we ever return to Costa Rica, I can't imagine staying any place but Villas Casa Loma with Igor and Tom !

Response from the owner We thoroughly enjoyed your visit here and will long remember our talks at the pool. Also, we are delighted that you found your accommodations met your expectations. We have designed all of our accommodations to be private and unique from one another, but still retaining a "community" type of atmosphere... So glad you enjoyed your enormous private terrace, too....The views and sunsets are spectacular and ever-changing... You certainly saw lots of lovely and different beaches in the area . Sometimes one can see whales or dolphins frolicking in the bay out front ! We are glad that you decided to rent a vehicle so that you could get around and explore the many small towns and take advantage of the variety of activities, cultural sites and delicious eating experiences offered here in our little corner of Paradise. Thank you both for your visit and your kind comments... We hope to see you again here in the not too distant future... PURA VIDA ! Tom and Igor

“The best way to see Costa Rica”

Reviewed 23 Feb 2015

My wife and I spent a fabulous week at the Villas Casa Loma. This place has to rank as one of Costa Rica's best kept secrets. Absolutely the best way to see this amazing country. Rent yourself an SUV and come stay here. The grounds and accommodations are unbelievably beautiful and peaceful. Stay here and you're within a few minutes of at least a dozen beaches, each one nicer than the last. You can easily have an entire beach to yourself, especially if you're willing to take a short hike. Plenty of excellent restaurants in the area and no shortage of fascinating things to see/do. The owners, Tom and Igor, know everything you could possibly need to know about what to do, and how best to get there. We had booked 4 days at an all-inclusive resort after our week at the Villas, thinking we'd need a few days of pampering after our week of adventuring on our own. Biggest regret of our lives, we should have stayed where we were! Absolutely the best way to see Costa Rica.

Response from the owner Thank you so much for your kind words and observations! We are delighted that you chose our location for the celebration of Karen's special birthday during your stay in Costa Rica... Here at Villas Casa Loma we pride ourselves on being able to offer a totally private, tranquil and secure stay within mere minutes of an enormous variety of things to do and see... We are glad that you were able to explore some out-of-the way places, too ! That really makes for a great travel experience, as you found out... Although we do not offer some of the "conveniences" that an "all inclusive" destination does, we feel that we have them beat hands down if you are looking for adventure, peace and quiet and have the capacity to use your own curiosity to guide you ... As you discovered, the area around our compound offers so much. One does not need to work at finding interesting and unusual things to see and do.There are a wide variety of beaches - each with its own special character - that are easily accessed from our property. Culturally fascinating places to visit are within an easy drive, too. We live on the property and are always happy to offer assistance in locating interesting sites to visit, shopping, cultural tours, restaurants, etc. We thank you for your comments and assure you that we are also working hard to improve the experience here in our little corner of Paradise...Kind thanks, too, for choosing Villas Casa Loma for your principal Costa Rican destination this year, Victor. We certainly look forward to seeing you both again soon! PURA VIDA !! Tom and Igor

“Peaceful Paradise”

Reviewed 9 Feb 2015

The stay in Costa Rica at Casa Lomas can not be described in any other way!!!! Had a beautiful view form the top of the world overlooking a small harbor with boats bobbing up and down. Beyond it was the Pacific Ocean blue and beautiful. Sunsets each night form tis same perch were absolutely magnificent. Many varieties of flowers, plants birds and other animals were visible to us every day. Tired of the view? Then go down to the wonderful pool and relax or head to the nearby beaches where we snorkeled, swam and body surfed. You can do as much or as little as you desire. The temperature every day was between 85 and 90 degrees with an onshore breeze to lighten the temperature a little. Absolutely perfect. Tom and Igor are great hosts and will spend as much time with you as you desire to recommend sights to see, restaurants to dine and directions to various places like the zip lines or cattle ranch where they also process sugar cane. Villas are well kept and comfortable with enough space and amenities to be totally comfortable. My two children are still mad because they couldn't go this year but.....Dates are already being lined up for next year!!!

Response from the owner WOW ! Thank you for your kind Review and please accept our apologies for not having responded sooner. We have just somehow gotten overwhelmed and overlooked the simple courtesy of a response to you. We are certainly happy to know that you had such a good visit to our little corner of Paradise... Since your departure, a number of new and interesting restaurants have opened within minutes of our quiet compound. Choices and options for excursions, fishing charters, day tripping, zip line tours, horseback riding, surfing, birding, etc. etc. are almost limitless and still growing! You can do it all - or do nothing at all here in Costa Rica where there are no artificial ingredients! We look forward to being able to be of service to you again and thank you for your visit. Travel well! PURA VIDA! Tom and Igor

“Our second visit, more to come.”

Reviewed 28 Jan 2015

This was our Second visit with Tom and Igor at Villas Casa Loma. Enjoyed breathtaking ocean views of Playa Flamingo from our lanai. Great accommodations with kitchen for making breakfast and coffee to watch the sun rise on the boats in the harbor. The sparkling pool was quiet and refreshing. We even watched the breathtaking sunsets while lazing in the pool. We so enjoyed the sounds of the jungle with numerous birds and a few howler monkeys. It is a short drive to several beaches and many excellent restaurants. Can't say enough of how helpful Tom and Igor were with tips of activities, restaurants and hidden beaches in the area. This year we had three in our group and last year we had eight. Great spaces for large and small groups. We just love our time there. You can be busy every day in town or in the jungle or just relax in this little piece of paradise. We will be back!

Response from the owner It is always a pleasure to receive return visits here in our little corner of Paradise - especially visits from folks such as yourselves who are interested and interesting ! For sure the views don't get much better and we are constantly striving to improve our immediate surroundings for the peaceful comfort of our guests... As you have discovered, there a lot of new and interesting things to see and do here, along with a multitude of fascinating restaurants, beaches and cultural activities - all within easy reach of our quiet compound...We look forward to seeing you all again here soon... As we so often say here in this gentle, peaceful land: PURA VIDA !! Saludos, Tom & Igor

“Paradise Visited”

Reviewed 29 Apr 2014

In 2012 we went on the internet to look for accommodations for our trip to Costa Rica. We wanted some place beautiful, relaxing and near a beach. We found Villas Casa Loma and with fingers crossed booked two weeks. When we arrived in January of 2013 Tom and Igor were waiting to greet us and to show us their little piece of paradise. The grounds are gorgeous with beautiful plantings, two lovely 40 foot pools and many little terraces and private areas to sun and relax. Each morning we were greeted with the sounds of the Howler Monkeys as they journeyed up the valley and heard them again each evening as they returned. We were enchanted with the birds, the flowers, the spectacular views. We had an amazing two weeks. We returned in January 2014 for a three week vacation and were once again delighted by our accommodations (this time a two bedroom villa on the lower part of the property). It was like staying in a friend's guest house, warm and inviting. We met other guests (some of whom have been coming back for many years and other first timers). Villas Casa Loma is a beautiful property in a great location, close to good restaurants. You can walk to the beach, grocery store, and even into the town of Flamingo. This property lends itself to the laid back tourist who wants all the comforts of home in a tranquil environment. We are planning a return visit in January 2015. I would highly recommend Villas Casa Loma and Tom and Igor as wonderful hosts. Gayle & Barry Oshawa, Ontario

Response from the owner What lovely comments, Gayle and Barry ! Thanks so much ! And once again, thanks for your delightful visit ! ... We are anxiously awaiting your visit again in January 2015 ! All is ready for you... Since your departure earlier this year we have been dilligently planting and cleaning up the gardens. Another labour of love... The wildlife here continues to be interesting and exciting ... Yesterday we sited a family of coatimundi, mot-mots, hummingbirds, a flock of little parrots and a beautiful little red fox gamboling on the driveway just below "your Villa ". ... The rainy season is gently arriving and we are experiencing some light rains in the late day and evening, which is really helping the new plants to take root. ... The resident parrots, turtles and birds are experiencing spring - nesting and mating. Quite a delight. ... We recently attended a wonderful evening of music and dancing at one of the premier restaurants in the area: Bahia del Sol. A great time was had by all... The new Coast Guard Station was dedicated in Flamingo early this week, which is also a big plus for the area. Things keep getting bettter and better here So much to do here ! We are excited about your next visit ... Don't forget to pack your senses of humour and adventure again next January ! We are waiting for you here in our little corner of Paradise. PURA VIDA !! Tom and Igor

“Two Family Vacation”

Reviewed 26 Apr 2014

Our two families visited Casa Loma this last winter and had a blast!!! The accommodations are great with plenty of room, good supplies in kitchens, clean and wonderful. The view is just incredible as you are up on a hill and can sit in the ocean breeze and watch the boats bobbing in the blue ocean bay. The grounds are kept immaculate and you can enjoy the colorful plants and flowers while luxuriating in the cool, refreshing pool. As hosts Tom and Igor can not be beat. They are there to check you in and from tree on can help you as much or as little as you desire. They gave us great tips on tasty restaurants and fun things to do! They recommended a zip line place that had short runs and newly installed long ones almost a mile long!!! Fun! :) The fish tacos they recommended while drinking a cold Imperial right on the beach was memorable while we watched the sunset. There was also a new coffee shop at the bottom of the hill where we could get a latte and homemade pastry. When it was time to leave the nine of us were tearful as we had so much fun, made friends and really enjoyed the conversation and time spent with our hosts. Plans are already underway to go back later this year and experience Shangri La one more time!!!

Response from the owner We were so fortunate to be able to accommodate both families all in private and close proximity to each other. Since your departure, we have been busily planting white, red and yellow plumeria trees at critical spots around the property. Some have already begun to flower and the perfume from these trees is almost overwhelming ! Not only beautiful, but a treat for the senses, too ! The slightly cooler weather has now begun with a little very light rain. This has encouraged more of the wildlife to come calling: Hummingbirds, coatimundis, gorgeous little red foxes - even deer - have been spotted around our compound. For seafaring types, whales, dolphins and the occasional turtle have been spotted - often from the terraces of our Villas ! Our own pair of turtles living in the back garden are mating again now that the weather is cooler with a bit of rain. Waves have increased a bit and the surfing is great. Nearby Playa Grande and Tamarindo Beaches, as well as Flamingo, Conchal and Las Catalinas all offer great surfing and water activities, including fishing and sailing, of course. Life is good here. We are looking forward to seeing you all again soon ! The fun has just begun here in our little corner of Paradise ! PURA VIDA !! Tom and Igor

“Paradise found”

Reviewed 25 Apr 2014

As a family of five with three grown boys, this was the perfect end to an active vacation. Having already been canyoneering, zip lining and white water rafting, this was a great, restful end to our trip. Tom and Igor were terrific, very accommodating and although it was a multi-house destination, we truly felt like we were there on our own. Thanks so much Tom and Igor!

Response from the owner We have seldom had such an active and interested family visiting here at Villas Casa Loma ! Despite your having spent some time rafting, ziplining, etc. you still all managed to keep very active during your "down time" here ! Life here on the Pacific coast offers so much to do, as you have discovered... Recently we have seen pods of whales and dolphins frolicking in Potrero Bay - directly below the terrace of your Villa. ... Since your departure, weather has cooled off somewhat. Temperatures are a bit lower with low humidity and just a tad of rain - ideal for our current project: planting red, white and yellow plumerias, more mango, papaya, avocado and coconut trees in our gardens. ... Our 2 resident turtles are becoming active again after hybernating for the "summer". The relative absence of traffic has seen an upturn in visits by tiny red foxes, deer, kinkaju, coatimundi to name just a few recently spotted around our property...The surf is up and there are some quite spectacular waves. Perfect conditions for surfing - especially at Playa Grande and Tamarindo Beach... There is always something interesting and fund to do here in our little corner of Paradise... Thank you for your visit and your kind comments ! We hope to see you all here again in this gentle and fascinating country. PURA VIDA !! Tom and Igor

“Wonderful Piece of Paradise”

Reviewed 9 Jun 2013

We stayed here from May 13-20 in villa 204. It was clean, well kept and extremely spacious! Wonderful views of the surrounding hills, Playa Flamingo, bay and ocean. Tom and Igor were very knowledgeable and gracious hosts. The grounds and pools were constantly being manicured and cleaned. We didn't use air conditioning during our stay as the villa had many ceiling fans to keep the air moving and was very comfortable, even with it being 40+C in the sunshine! The kitchen was well stocked with all the required items for cooking. We even used the BBQ which was just a quick walk down some stairs, which would make it very central for all guests to use not matter which villa you stayed in. Lots of thought has gone into the planning of their piece of paradise and would highly recommend staying here. There is a small grocery store on the main road to Playa Flamingo, just a 2 min drive, that had all the basics required for food and drink. Many great restaurants in the area and it was easy to navigate from LIR airport. The city of Liberia is about 1 - 1 hour 15 mins away. Tamarindo was about 20-30 mins away. You've inspired us to start thinking about our piece of paradise!

Response from the owner It is always fun to watch first-time visitors to our little corner of Paradise as they discover some of the wonderful sites and experiences available here. Without a doubt, the beaches, restaurants, shops and bars in the area are among the finest anywhere ! Being so close to "home" yet so warm year round is a blessing which cannot be overrated. We really enjoyed your visit here and vicariously relived a lot of our earlier experiences through your eyes as you discovered some of the delightful people, places and trails adjacent to our property. So glad to hear that we have been some small measure of inspiration and sincerely hope that you, too, will one day find your own little corner of Paradise. Have a wonderful 2014 ! We look forward to seeing you both soon. Pura Vida ! Tom and Igor
