“The best house on the island - and what an island!”

Reviewed 20 Feb 2014

The Half Way House is a wonderfully comfortable house on the ocean front of Salt Key. It is beautifully decorated by its owner, an antiques dealer, so the house feels much more like a home than a holiday rental. The proprietor is very willing to share her tips and helped us with all the planning before we flew to Salt Key so we already knew who to talk to for diving, provisions, restaurants (there are 3) and boat rental etc. The term, "off the beaten track" is thrown around loosely in travel but Salt Key really is a lost paradise. With only 50 inhabitants and half as many tourists, the island really feels like your own private castaway. You can walk for KM in the beach and not see anyone. We can't wait to go back and recommend Half Way House as the absolute first choice.

“Quite Engaging!”

Reviewed 10 Jan 2014

Words will never convey how wonderful our vacation was thanks to Holly's love and care of The Half Way House! Holly answered all questions promptly and made all arrangements for food, for pickup/dropoff at the airport, for everything you could possibly need, Holly had it covered. The kitchen was well appointed, the linen well stocked, the lounge chairs and umbrellas set up, the furnishings beautiful and inviting, the caretaker there to go over the whole couldn't get more than this at any other place. The pictures on the website are a stunning representation of this property and I assure you, you will not be disappointed! You are getting much more than what is shown. I recommend the buggy. Explore the island from tip to tip. Hike to the ruins that Holly suggested, meet the locals at the restaurants, walk the island at night to gaze at the stars and share the road with donkeys, cows, and roosters. Visit a different beach every day. Ride the bikes, use the beach chairs and umbrellas. The list is endless of the supplies provided! On our second night there, my boyfriend (now fiance) lit the candles, turned down the lights, turned on a song, and proposed to me there in the living room. The sound of the ocean was in the background and it was a perfect setting for the surprise of a lifetime! No better place to get engaged. We will have fond memories of Salt Cay and The Half Way House and yes, we will be back. For those who want nightlife and parties, this is likely not the place for you. We were looking for relaxation and solitude after a deployment in afghanistan and for us, this was a perfect location. But you're not stranded. The internet was fast, the satellite TV worked fine, there's a ferry to Grand Turk, lots to do. The water was crystal clear. But if you can't get The Half Way House, wait until there's a vacancy. We idn't want to leave. Definitely a special place to return!

“Blissful relaxation in Luxurious Home”

Reviewed 26 Feb 2013

We were sold on arrival. Half Way House is spectacular and Salt Cay is liking stepping back in time (in a very good way). Half Way House was beautiful and has all the "wants". WiFi for those who have to keep in touch with the real world, satellite TV if you just cant stay away from it and luxury that does not say don't touch!

“Halfway House is a beautiful and comfortable home to spend a vac”

Reviewed 10 Jan 2013

Halfway House is a beautiful grand old home. We really enjoyed out time there. The house is very spacious and well-appointed. The breezes flow through the house so there is no need for a/c. The kitchen is large and well equipped. The only drawback is the oven which is far too hot. This home is located in a great spot on the water and close to the restaurants. There is no sandy beach out front but it is within walking distance. We would love to rent this home again.

“Christmas at Salt Cay”

Reviewed 9 Jan 2013

Salt Cay is a wonderful experience and Halfway House made it extra special. This is a beautifully appointed and comfortable residence with all of the amenities to make it a home away from home. Every aspect of our stay was perfect. The view is beautiful. The people of Salt Cay are so welcoming. Highly recommend.

“The best in Salt Cay!!”

Reviewed 5 Jun 2011

May 2011: I have just returned from a week at the Half Way House on Salt Cay Island. I can't say enough about this one-of-a-kind property! It was clear to me, from the moment I walked in, that Holly and Rick have restored this historic house with patience, a commitment to its historic roots and attention to detail. While I appreciated the integrity of the original pieces preserved in the home, I absolutely loved the fact that it was decorated in colourful, contemporary colours and had both modern and antique furnishings, making me feel right at home! It's always a treat to have "all the comforts of home" in your vacation spot and this is the case with the Half Way House - dishwasher, high-speed internet connection, flat screen TV with access to current programming. Because it backs onto the ocean (west) and fronts on the east, the constant breeze sails through the house from morning to night. Air con is therefore not necessary - my bedroom windows, aided by the ceiling fan, provided the ideal natural coolant each night! Spotlessly clean, great reading materials, magnificent views from the front (the historic salt pools) and the back (the Caribbean Ocean!!) made my daily question "Where shall I read, front or back", the most complex decision I had to make! As for Salt Cay Island, it is perfect for those seeking a quiet, relaxing getaway without the commercialism of most touristy resorts on other islands. As for me, I'll be back. The Half Way House will be my accommodation of choice! Cheers, Sandra
