Real Jamaica is The place to stay in Jamaica when you are seeking a quiet rural sea-side destination away from the bustle of the tourist hotspots. I had an extremely relaxing, memorable vacation there. The studio cottage is in a wooded area of the lush property blessed abundantly with various fruit trees. It is simply decorated and very comfortable. Sitting on the verandah or lying in your bed you can hear the birds chirping and the waves of the sea lashing against the rocks. At nights you can enjoy seeing the woods illuminated by the peenie wallies flying around. Sometimes you may even experience the pleasure of viewing a woodpecker feeding her babies. On the cliff-side property overlooking the ocean you walk down a few steps and lie on the platform sun tanning or partaking in yoga exercises. I enjoyed lying out there at nights looking up at the stars and listening to the music of the waves. I felt at peace there. Papa Curvin is a great host, willing to give you good tips on where to go on various excursions or simply to have a good chat with. My favorite beach driving distance away was Sugarpot Beach. Next door to Papa Curvin`s property is a restaurant which serves lovely fish dishes. The little country shop across the street provided us with the provisions we needed. If the owner did not have what we needed, she kindly sent one of her family members to get it elsewhere. Enjoyed watching the neighbours playing dominoes at nights beside her shop. Will definitely return again and again.
“Secluded, friendly, relaxing!”
Nice cottage - almost felt like we were up north in Minnesota. Papa Curvin and Joanna were great hosts. We got to go on an excursion for a day trip with Papa to the Blue Hole and to Sugar Pot Beach - both were amazing! They gave us great recommendations for restaurants and how to use the taxi service. Dor's Fish Pot - just down the street, is a must (try the conch salad!) and Miss Annie across the street took care of us in supplying us with Red Stripe and awesome take out food. Grace at the property was awesome, too. Great cook! The night before we left, Papa Curvin and Joanna came and sat out on our deck with us for a couple hours and just hung out with us. They are so down to earth and REAL. If we ever get back to Jamaica, we will definitely return to Real Jamaica.
The team on they Property around the cotteges ist great, everybody wants you to have a good time. There are 3 cottages on the property, two cottages and the artist house. We booked the artist house, a very nice and colourful little wood-house, full equiped with everything you need for cooking and living. We really liked it! The location around is very nice: there are many different trees and plants and the cliffs and the deep blue sea, that´s vacation! If you leave the property you can go shopping to the little supermarket of Miss annie, it´s interessting talking to her and get to know more about land& people. The things we liked best is, that we did not feel like a normal tourist you gets of the ship for 1 day and only get´s a carribean show, we have seen a little piece of the real jamaica and we loved it.
“A Peaceful Retreat”
Real Jamaica is just that - a little slice of real life outside of the luxury resorts down the road. We were lucky enough to be able to make the comparison since we had family members staying at Golden Eye. Grace and Evol were terrific hosts. Grace made us delicious real Jamaican breakfasts and they went all out hosting a barbeque for my husband, daughter and me and our 9 guests! We enjoyed the ocean deck and the meditation cave. A couple of rickety bikes made local transportation easy and Evol also connected us with taxi services for trips to Ocho Rios and the airport. The bungalows were simple and clean with appliances and bathrooms in good working order. This is a friendly place and though Papa Curvin was out of town, we enjoyed meeting his family and friends and found them very welcoming and willing to help us as newbies in the area. The property is oceanfront but not beachfront and though the ocean was usually pretty rough there were some calm days when it might have been cool to have a ladder down to the water for a dip. There are some beaches nearby within walking / biking distance.
“Simple. Beautiful. Off the beaten path.”
My only lament is that I needed 2 more weeks there. Everyone was wonderful to us- Papa Curvin, Grace, Johanna, Kurrency, and Cornelia, who emailed with me in the weeks leading up to our trip to help me with all of the logistics. Beautiful people-- hospitable, warm, helpful, easy to talk to, extremely accommodating. We loved the property and it was the absolute perfect spot for us to stay- a good distance from the built up resorts and tourist developments of the island. We were free to do our own thing, had privacy, but the comfort of knowing the staff were just a few steps away and always there to answer any questions we had. We were utterly content with the simplicity of walking to town or the small provisions shops to pick up anything we needed, eating & drinking at roadside spots nearby, swimming at the nearby James Bond beach, sunbathing on the rocks by the cabin, lounging in hammocks, drinking lots of rum on the porch, and chatting up the Real Jamaica staff. Hoping I'll be back in the not too distant future.
Comfortable, cosy, good location and peaceful surroundings. Feels like a home away from home. The cottage has a well equipped kitchen, a wonderful verandah and a platform by the sea where you can enjoy a beautiful sunset whilst drinking a cold Red Stripe :) Walking distance from beaches and a short route taxi ride from shopping.
“incredible, unforgettable, amazing experience.”
Excellent friendly service from all friends. Always willing to help Curvin, fantastic service from Grace (her fish dishes-just amazing). Wonderful place where the cottage lies. Perfectly prepared cottage with everything a man needs for a comfortable vacation. Total harmony with nature. Always nice people from Orracabess. Willing to help and advise. All without the tourist industry. Just Real Jamaica. With incomparable atmosphere for example with Ocho Rios (when one returns from the bustling Ochi to Orracabess - it is a return like into paradise)not like...it is paradise. For those who wish to attend a tourist attraction - a good starting point - all easily reached by local public transport.
