“Exceptional villa in a beautiful area”

Reviewed 23 Sep 2014

Welcoming, beautifully restored, comfortable, great showers, spectacular views, shady outdoor eating areas, fast wi-fi, pool, close to superb walking country, friendly and lively local town, good food and wine - stay here!

“Go for it, you won't regret it”

Reviewed 17 Sep 2014

An extraordinary house in a beautiful location; you could happily spend a week just sitting by the pool and looking at the view. Peaceful and secluded but only five minutes from the liveliest and most pleasant town for miles. Damien and Sharon made us feel really welcome and all their local advice was good. We’ve already decided to try and go back next year.

“Un bel posto - A fantastic place to stay!”

Reviewed 15 Jun 2014

Our family of 5 (2 adults, 3 children aged 6,5, 1.5) stayed at Villa Raffaello for one week during April/May and just loved it! Our apartment was well-equipped and felt just like home. Damian, our host, was very welcoming and helpful. He suggested some great itineraries for our family outings. We just loved the Villa, its gardens...the view is AMAZING. The town of Sarnano is lovely, very easy to get by (in Italian or English), and there is plenty to see and do in the surrounding areas. We thoroughly recommend a stay at Villa San Raffaello. We would love to go back!

“beautiful place, wonderful people”

Reviewed 12 Jun 2014

The villa is such a beautiful, idyllic spot with views of the Sibillini Mountains and the bell towers of medieval Sarnano. Flowers and herbs are growing everywhere on the property, plus a little vineyard and vegetable garden. There’s a pool and a place for an outdoor fire, places to dine al fresco and hammocks for lounging. Sarnano is great, especially having coffee at Hotel Terme. Ascoli Piceno is a more famous medieval town, an hour’s drive away from the villa, and home to Caffe’ Meletti which has been preserved in its original belle époque style—also a great place for a coffee. Damien provides literature on countless hikes and day trips whether you want to be outdoors or taking in churches, museums, and historic sites. On some of these excursions we visited Lake Fiastra in the Apennines and the Loreto Basilica housing its awe-inspiring “Black Madonna”. We’ve enjoyed breathtaking hikes from areas near the villa, up Sassotetto and also through the Gola Dell’Infernaccio and the mountains in Monti Sibillini National Park. It’s wonderful to be able to come back to the villa after sightseeing, take a hot shower, cook an Italian meal, dine outdoors, sit by the fire, look at the stars, see the town in the moonlight, and sleep in a comfortable bed. If you wanted to spend your vacation sitting in the garden reading a book and drinking wine, this would be a perfect place for that too. The villa is beautiful and well appointed, and the owners are extremely nice and easy to communicate with.

“Superb Location & Value”

Reviewed 1 Sep 2013

A fantastic welcome from Damian & Sharon to their beautiful villa. Very clean, well equipped and tastefully decorated apartments with absolutely everything you'd need. Loved the al fresco dining and barbecue pit. The swimming pool was well situated to gaze at the incredible views. Lots to see and do locally, the car had light use! Villa San Raffaello can't be recommended highly enough!

“Wonderful family holiday”

Reviewed 28 Aug 2013

We have just returned from two weeks at Villa San Raffaello with our three children, and I can recommend every aspect of the experience. The villa is perfect for the hot summer months - thick walls and small windows, clean and well equipped, the location is amazing, so much to do and see - the views incredible, the swimming pool is great, roasting marshmallows on the open fire, the free organic fruit and veg, the home made wine from the vinyard, Damien and Sharon always on hand for advice and a chat,... I could go on. The highlight was the fun the children had meeting new friends and entertaining themselves in the extensive grounds and in and around the pool. None of us wanted to leave, and I am sure we will return.

“A perfect holiday!”

Had a lovely stay with our family (3 kids) in a nice area in Italy. Wonderfull villages, contry side and sea. The Villa was prefect in size and accommodation.

“We didn't want to leave...”

Reviewed 5 Aug 2013

This was our second visit; we loved it so much last year, we booked for 2 weeks this time around. It is true, unadulterated Italy. We stayed in Grazia last august and this time (the second and third week of July) we rented Elisa. This time, as last, the apartment was clean, welcoming and comfortable. The grounds of the villa I could spend hours wandering in - all the fruit trees: plums, peaches, walnuts and the flowers and herbs; anyone who is interested in nature will love it. When you get up early in the morning (anyone, who, like us, has 3 young children, will sympathise here), you can see the mist rising over the mountains. It is a magical place. We loved being only 5 minutes from Sarnano so that mid-afternoon, once it became too hot to continue lazing by the pool, we could bundle the children into the car and go for gelati at the Hotel Terme. Or we could go for morning trips to local towns and be back easily by lunchtime to have a light lunch under the pergola with wine made from grapes grown at the villa! (thank you Damien and Sharon, I didn't have a chance to tell you how lovely that wine was). We were at the villa at the same time as the lady who has given a less-than-positive review and should point out that we did not encounter any of the difficulties she appeared to experience and I think it would be difficult to find a more accommodating and helpful host than Damien. We would, and do, wholeheartedly recommend the villa to any (and all) of our friends and family and are already planning our trip next year!

Response from the owner Thanks for saying it's a "magical place" Kelly, pleased that you enjoyed the nature, especially as this year is the first that we have had sunflowers on the land around the pool.

“Totally tranquil”

Reviewed 15 Jun 2013

I have just come back from a 5 day break at the lovely Villa San Rafaello, which is run by Damien & Sharon. They couldn't have been more friendly or helpful. Our apartment had a lovely balcony with a fabulous view of the picturesque town of Sarnarno which is less than 1 km walk away. There are a good number of bars and restaurants that make for a great night out. Needless to say the food and wine was fabulous! The swimming pool is much bigger than I have found on previous trips in Italy, and the views in all directions from poolside are unspoilt and really helped us to unwind. Can't recommend a trip out here strongly enough !!

“Blooming marvellous in Le Marche”

Reviewed 12 Jun 2013

June, the Sibilli mountains above Sarnano; it has to be one of the most stunning places in Europe. There is a thick carpet of colour with a rampant array of wildflowers in full bloom set against the (mostly) brilliant blue background of the Le Marche skies. Stunned by the visual sensations of 14 different wild orchids (some very rare), peonies, fritillaries, narcissi... we then had the aural delights of, first, cuckoos in the valleys, then serins in the trees, red-backed shrikes trilling in the bushes and finally and wonderfully no less than five nightingales within a few hundred yards of lake shoreline; such a treat for us. Then there were the kestrels, deer, rabbits, pine martins... This is a magical area for wildlife and environment and Villa San Raffaello (VSR) provides a fabulous base. The location and facilities make life easy and whilst the mountains and wildlife can easily tempt you out and about, Vsr's pool, views and grounds are difficult to tear yourself away from. Our hosts were truly welcoming and very enthusiastic about our love of the local wildlife. So much so that Damien accompanied us on a walk with a local mountain guide who took us to lots of secret places to find wonders and rarities. We loved the produce from local markets and shops so preferred to eat in most of the time; the butcher's pork cutlets cooked on rosemary on the log BBQ are thoroughly recommended. And do try the fresh pasta shop in the square in Sarnano; molto delizioso! Vsf is a special place in a gorgeous area. We didn't know the Le Marche region before but we're delighted to have found such a lovely Villa in this blooming marvellous Italian wildlife wonderland.

Response from the owner Your visit opened my eyes up to the incredible array of rare wildlife in this area. Thanks for coming and for letting me accompany you on your guided tour.
