“Great House, Great Location”

Reviewed 5 Apr 2014

Our group of three couples chose Max and John's house in Castel del Bosco for its great location and roominess. The size of the house was more than adequate for our group and we really appreciated all the amenities that were provided. Even though it was late February when we arrived, we found it to be warm and cozy. Particularly useful for those that like to travel light is the washer and dryer. Another nice touch is the media room stocked with a large flat screen TV and two DVD players (European and american formats). The wi-fi connection works well and there are lots of guidebooks and information about the area. The village was not difficult to find, about a half hour drive from the Pisa airport just off the highway to Florence. As you can see from the pictures, the house has a beautiful view of the arno Valley as it sits atop a hill which provides an unobstructed 180 degree view across the valley to the hills containing Lucca. There are two well stocked supermarkets, each less than a fifteen minute drive, the Panorama in Pontedera which is gigantic and has everything, and the coop store in Santa Maria a Monte which has great meat, produce and a fresh bakery. The coop's wine selection is excellent as well. As others have mentioned, we very much enjoyed dining at Il Melograno in nearby La Rotta and the local pizzeria in the village, an easy walk from the house. This central location allowed us to take many day trips around Tuscany. We visited Florence on three different days, taking the train each time from Pontedera. This was a pleasant one hour trip which terminates in the heart of the city allowing you to walk everywhere. So, if you are looking for a comfortable, well equipped house with a great location for touring Tuscany with a tremendous view, you won't be disappointed staying at Max and John's.

“Tuscany at its best!”

Reviewed 19 Jun 2013

Wow! The location was perfect. Situated in the heart of Tuscany, this Villa is a short drive to all the hot spots that you would want to visit. It is located in a small farming community away from big city traffic. The Villa is big with large bedrooms and bathrooms. The kitchen was also large and fully stocked with tableware and appliances. What better way to be greeted after a long plane ride than with friendly people and a bottle of wine? We made a day-trip every day in a different direction. Fabrizio and Nora were fantastic hosts. Fabrizio helped us map out each day-trip including the best places to visit, best times to visit, driving directions, train schedules, ticket costs, and restaurant selection. He also helped us get our lost luggage delivered. Nora even offered to cook us breakfast! Where else do you get that kind of hospitality? We would go back there in a second. Be sure to rent a car with a GPS to make your driving experience easier. Italian roundabout intersections can be tricky and a GPS will guide you to your destination smoothly. Our favorite destinations were Florence, Pisa, Lucca, Volterra, San Gimignano, Monteriggioni, Sienna, Bolgheri, and Cinque Terre (including Rio Miggiore, Monerosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, and Manarola). If Tuscany is your passion, this is the place to stay.

Response from the owner We are pleased that you were able to take advantage of the central location for sight seeing and that you enjoyed the space in the house.

“Great stay in Tuscany”

Reviewed 28 May 2013

Nora and Fabrizio were wonderful hosts. Their house is beautiful and spacious. It is very clean and comfortable. We stayed two nights and had wonderful conversations with the hosts and other guests. They had guests from Russia, Germany, India, France, and Italy while we were there. We had a wonderful time. It is a great place to go to Florence, Pisa, or Volterre. Did I mention they have a beautiful deck with killer views of Tuscany? We highly endorse the Special - Scenic Tuscany Room.

Response from the owner Thank you, John, for the positive review. We are glad that you were comfortable and enjoyed the terraces and view.

“Wonderful place to stay”

Reviewed 15 May 2013

Fabrizio and Nora are wonderful people! Their house is beautiful, very clean, with a great view of Tuscany from the terrace! They were very helpful and patient with us. We got ourselves lost at a late hour (and we lost the house key), but they gracefully and mercifully helped us and were grateful that we made it back safely. Then, early in the morning, we had to catch a train, but the bus line didn't start until later and no taxis were available, so we figured we would have to miss the train and hopefully catch a later one, but Fabrizio woke up and drove us to the train station (just in time- we made the train)! They were a huge blessing to us!

Response from the owner Thank you for your warm review, and we are delighted that you enjoyed your stay in our home in Tuscany.

“great stay”

Reviewed 23 Feb 2013

When you see photos and movies about Tuscany you probably think it is an advertisement. Then you go to Tuscany and realize it is actually much better than what you saw on the screen. It is the same story with this place. We expected it to be close to what we saw on the screen and then it appeared to be faaar better. And this is only when we talk about the facilities. The best was the atmosphere with all the people gathering for coffee or dinners together with this great approach of the hosts offering you help before you thought to ask for it. It is a place we will be going back whenever we come to Tuscany. It is close and well communicated to most you'll want to see, plus it gives you the chance to rest.

Response from the owner Thank you for the warm, positive review, Wojtek! We are pleased that your experience in our house in Tuscany was to your liking and that the house and atmosphere exceeded your expectations. Please return soon with family and friends. Regards, Nora and Fabrizio

What a amazing experience we had staying at Max's, John's and Fabricio's place!! The house was beautiful and exceeded our expectations big time. There is plenty of space available, great views all around. House is Quiet , clean and cosy conveniently located close to all major Tuscany's sights! Hosts are welcoming, very friendly people always ready to go extra mile to accommodate your needs. We fell in love with this place immediately and will certainly be going back. Great atmosphere. It was a real pleasure to stay there!

Response from the owner Thank you, Dawid, for the warm and positive review! We are certainly glad that you enjoyed your stay at our house and were able to benefit from the proximity to sites that Tuscan afficionados like to visit. We do hope that you will return with your friends in the future. Regards, Nora and Fabrizio

“Wow! What an unbelievable stay.”

Reviewed 7 Feb 2013

Our stay was incredibly wonderful. The views from the villa are spectacular. It was impeccably clean and spacious enough for our entire party. We enjoyed the proximity to so many places in Tuscany. Castel del Bosco is strategically located within access to so many places of interest such as, Pisa, Florence, Lucca, Sienna, Volterra, San Gimignano, Cinque Terre, Cortona, Montepulciano... Traveling by train is easy and efficient. The villa is very warm and full of modern amenities. We felt we were treated like family and hope to return again and again.

Response from the owner PepperJen, thank you for the very positive review! We are certainly glad that you and your party enjoyed the house, views and the central location. Please do return in future visits and bring your friends. Regards, Nora & Fabrizio

“This is Tuscany!”

Reviewed 26 Jan 2013

I can go on and on about the great experience I had with my family here. We visited off-season, to avoid crowds and other travel expenses, but you really don't have to if your destination is this gorgeous, relatively inexpensive, off-the-beaten-trail home. It's got room for a boisterous family affair, yet we all felt it certainly has the charm in its design and decor to not engulf a couple. Despite the season we felt warm and comfortable inside, and even on a foggy, winter's morning it was necessary to open the beautiful wood patio doors to enjoy the scenery, and get that full Tuscan cinematic moment-- for a little bit at least! A car is recommended, but we only had one so many of us often made our own way to the train station in Pontedera. Just remember, Castel del Bosco is a small countryside location so be patient (ah, Italy...) and happy that they have transportation at all. It may take a while at first but just plan accordingly, and you'll be able to get to many amazing destinations (from the bustling beauty of cities like Florence to the picturesque pleasures in areas like Cinque Terre) independently and with ease. Happily, the owners provide all the pertinent local information: schedules, etc. That made it so much more accessible and less intimidating for some of us first time travelers to get out and about. And yeah, we had pizza from Napoli to Roma, and the joint down the street is the best! The seasonal pork sandwich (I forget the name, boo...) was out of this world. A reason to visit in winter alone ;) Our stay here felt friendly and welcoming from the first, and we can easily recommend that it has proper accommodations and a captivating, rural location for a wonderful family vacation... or adventure!

Response from the owner Thank you for your rave review, Nicky D. We are so glad that you enjoyed our house, the village of Castel del Bosco, and wider Tuscany. You used our public transport information to your benefit too. Please come back to visit soon with family and friends. Regards, Fabrizio and Nora

“Magical Tuscan Villa!”

Reviewed 23 Jan 2013

I don't normally write reviews, but I wanted to share how great our stay in was at this amazing house. The place is beautiful, with a large functional kitchen, huge dining area with views of the countryside, and an awesome balcony for outdoor drinks/food. Exactly as advertised--definitely exceeded our expectations. Will be recommending to our friends for sure. Absolutely magical! The house is centrally located in rural Tuscany, making it very easy to get out and see the sights. There's a train station in Pontedera that goes everywhere too-we took it up to Cinque Terre for an easy day trip. Finally-- there's a great family run pizza place within walking distance with yummy Neopolitan style pies.

Response from the owner Thank you for the warm review, Dave, and we certainly appreciated having you as a guest. We are happy that your stay was what you wished it to be. Please return for another visit soon. Regards, Nora and Fabrizio

“Magnificent Home”

Reviewed 19 Jan 2013

We stayed with a large group while visiting Tuscany and it was perfect for us. The villa is lovely...just like the photos, very romantic, spacious, and comfortable. It has all the comforts of home including a well stocked kitchen, a laundry, large eating and sitting areas, plus fabulous Italian tile, and huge doors that open out onto a vista that we enjoyed every morning over coffee. We rented a car and drove to Pontedera for very easy train connections to Florence and Pisa. We also drove to some of the small Tuscan towns that are nearby including Lucca, San Gimignano, Siena, and Montalcino, as well as to Bologna. It has access to all the sights of Tuscany when you want to be active, but also is a wonderful, quiet retreat when you want to stay home and read or cook. The pizza parlor in town is outstanding, and Pontedera has a huge grocery store. The owners were a delight to work with, responsive and thoughtful. We would absolutely return here for our next Tuscan holiday. Highest recommendation!

Response from the owner Thank you, Mel, for your warm, positive review of your stay in our house. We appreciate having you as a guest, and are so glad that your experience was rewarding. Please return soon. Regards, Nora and Fabrizio
