Casablanca Cottage

Location is key in Real Estate and Vacation home rentals: Casablanca Cottage is as good as it gets in this regard, ½ block to Queen street, the same to the grocery store and The Royal George Theatre.

The front porch is a summer hit with room for 6 people to sip wine and toast the Horse and buggies as they pass. The private side garden is a summer afternoon heat trap and your outdoor dining room. There is a Moroccan table that seats 6 and a Weber gas BBQ.

Inside the house are three bedrooms, two with Queen beds, one with two single beds. The beds will all be made for you when you arrive, with warm duvets in winter, and lighter duvets in summer. Each bedroom comes with two thick bath towels, hand towels are in the washrooms. The house also has three washrooms, two with showers and a ½ bath on the main floor.

The kitchen has everything you need to eat at home. The bedrooms are all upstairs so the main level is wide open for entertaining. The gas fireplace is wonderful on a cool day and on a warm afternoon you can open all of the windows and let summer in! If it is too hot, the house has central AC.

There is a flat screen TV with a High Definition feed that has the best picture you can imagine. The phone will allow free calling to about 60 countries and the Wi-Fi is better than what we have at home.

While certainly not the oldest house in town, it does have at lot of history. The home was built in the 1920s of reclaimed material. Some of the beams in the basement and have square nails poking out from a much older building and none of the windows are the same size.

“wonderful Casablanca Cottage Niagara on the Lake”

Reviewed 21 Jul 2015

My friends and I had a long weekend in Niagara on the Lake and chose wonderful Casablanca Cottage for our stay. Casablanca cottage was clean and nicely decorated with many beautiful items from Morocco. The kitchen was perfect for our group to make breakfast and dinner and the front porch was a comfortable gathering spot to enjoy a glass of wine. The cottage is a short walk from all the shopping and dining spots that make Niagara on the Lake such a great vacation location. My friends and I had a lovely weekend at Casablanca Cottage!

Response from the owner Thank you for your review. My wife and I love Morocco and named both houses after favourite cities there. (Marrakech Mansion is ours as well) A clean house is a high priority and my cleaners take pride in their work and do the best they possibly can. This is our vacation home too, so we try to maintain it to the same standard that we do our own house. In fact my wife tells me son pretty regular basis that I take better care of the rental houses than I do our own!

“Quaint little Cottage, close to everything Niagara-on-the-Lake has to offer”

This cottage was a perfect retreat for my family over the holidays. If you are looking for a place to get away from the city, relax and enjoy a slower pace, this is it! The cosiness of the cottage and fireplace was relaxing during the winter months. Being pet friendly, it was nice to be able to stay in a home rather than a hotel. Our dog slept in front of the fireplace whenever we turned it on. Would highly recommend a visit.

Response from the owner The house is 1/2 block from Queen Street which is nice in summer, but REALLY nice in winter. The grocery store is less than a block away as are several restaurants. The house has natural gas heat and a gas fireplace so it is nice and warm during cool weather. The three bedrooms all have warm duvets for winter and cooler duvets for summer. The duvets themselves are cleaned between seasons, duvet covers are changed after every guest visit and like the bed linens are laundered professionally so they are crisp and clean when you arrive. We have pets and we like to take them on vacation with us, so it is only natural that others would want to do the same. We try to approve every request for pets to stay in the house, although I did once turn down a pet pig! Thank you for your review and I hope to see you and your friends again.

“Absolutely wonderful place to stay”

Reviewed 10 Jun 2014

Our group of ladies try to go to NOTL annually to see a show and shop. We have been fortunate to stay at Don George's houses the last two years. Casablanca Cottage is centrally located and easy walking distance to everything we needed. The house is immaculately clean, beautifully decorated and very comfortable. The garden and front porch were our favorite areas for sitting at the end of a busy day. We would highly recommend Casablanca Cottage to anyone and plan on returning in future years.

Response from the owner Thank you for the vote of confidence in returning to stay in one of my two houses. (I own Marrakech Mansion as well) Both houses are decorated in a fun Moroccan theme with bright colours plus antiques and handicrafts from Morocco. The fact that the houses are located in the Historic district of Niagara on the Lake makes for an easy walk to the shops, theatres and the lake. Thank you for your review and I hope to see you again next year.

“Great Cottage!”

Reviewed 27 May 2014

The cottage was such a great place to stay. It was very spacious, clean and beautifully decorated. It really felt like a home away from home. The owner's have gone to great length to make sure that the cottage is comfortable and stocked with everything you might need. We had room for our family to visit, spent a lot of time lounging on the front porch and playing in the yard with my daughter. The location was very close to the main street, shops and restaurants - within walking distance to everything. Highly recommend staying here.

Response from the owner This is my summer home as well, in fact my wife and I stayed for a few days last weekend. We spend a lot of time (as usual) in the garden, removing some plants that had died over the winter and planting new. We to spent some time on the front porch, enjoying a glass of wine after working in the garden. We love the house and I love to hear from others that do. Thank you for your review and I hope to see you again.

“Location, location, location”

Want a getaway in a charming, cozy, clean, comfortable, colorful cottage where only a 2 minute walk provides access to great restaurants, theaters, unique shops? Well, you can't go wrong with Casablanca Cottage. My husband and I just completed a snowy, beautiful month's stay that included the Christmas holidays. We couldn't have been more content. Fully stocked with any and all amenities, owner Don George is a hands on guy. Problem, question, his response is immediate and unobtrusive. He truly cares. He even decorated the cottage for the holidays, an added bonus. There is an ample supply of videos, books, and a charming fireplace that adds to the character and charm. The warm colors and attention to details reveal owners who take pride in their accommodation. The furnishings are perfectly appropriate and plentiful. We immediately felt at home. Our only regret was that the winter weather did not allow us to take advantage of the porches, deck, and delightful garden. I can't imagine anyone who would be unhappy with this delightful home.

Response from the owner Thank you for your review. People come to Niagara on the Lake for the Theatre, the history, the wine and the restaurants. This guest rightly pointed out that staying just a 2 minute walk from many of these attractions really makes a vacation enjoyable. Leave the car in the driveway and walk to the Theatre or the restaurant. The decor in Casablanca is meant to be fun. Bright colours, and souvenirs from our Moroccan travels decorate the house. I am doing a little redecorating right now (Jan. 2014) repainting, changing some pictures and adding a great Turkish Mosaic chandelier over the dining table. (A little bit of Turkey is coming to Casablanca!) Thank you again for your review and I hope to see you again, perhaps in warmer weather.

“Awesome time at the Cassablanca!”

Reviewed 28 Jan 2014

I think this is our 7th visit to the Cassablanca. Each time has been consistently wonderful. We have stayed in the Spring, Summer and Winter. On our most recent visit this January, we visited wineries during the days and came back to nice relaxing evenings in front of the fireplace. You can walk into town and enjoy the shops. It is super clean and has everything you can think of. We are hoping to visit again!

Response from the owner If you have stayed in Casablanca 7 times you must have lived through the transformation: The side yard from mud-hole to secluded Moroccan garden. The front "non-lawn" from weed patch to lovely grass with watering system (not like you see it when you come in January) The house from dull grey to lively yellow. Thank you for returning every year and I look forward to seeing you next January.

“Wonderful Getaway!”

Reviewed 29 Apr 2013

Our stay at the Casablanca Cottage in Niagara-on-the-Lake was just what we were looking for- a relaxing getaway! Don, does an exceptional job of having everything you might need already need at the cottage. He keeps the cottage well kept and clean, this was especially important to us because we stayed with our 8 month old son. Being just a block from all the shops and restaurants on Queen street makes the location idea for anyones visit...still quiet but the action is just around the corner! Being in a fully equipt home made us feel so comfortable. We love the time outside on the porch, time by the fire and being able to prepare our own meals (full, clean kitchen) or order in! We will definitely be visiting again!!

Response from the owner Thank you Kerry I am happy that you found everything you needed. My goal is to provide accommodations where guests can feel at home. I want you to have the tools to cook a meal indoors and I love to BBQ so there is a Weber grill with electric start for cooking outdoors. We love the location as much as you, the horse and buggies going by the house, the shops and restaurants close but not in your face. I hope to see you again soon.

“The absolute perfect get away!!!”

Reviewed 10 Feb 2013

What a wonderful place to stay!!! You could not ask for more. Don had everything that you could possible need right there. The location was wonderful for us, as we were visiting the Niagara on the Lake Ice Wine Festival and many wineries. After being out in the freezing cold, it was great to relax and have a glass of wine by the fireplace. This is not our first time at the Casablanca. We try to go at least once each year. Everytime we go, Don has added something new. This year he added free long distance, which was nice for us to call back to the U.S. The kitchen is fully equipped and easy to work in. The beds are comfortable, which is important to us as we have both had spine surgery and my husband has two artifical hips and knees. There are plenty of blankets to keep warm on those cold nights. Neither of us can walk too far, but we were able to walk into town and enjoy the festivities on Queen Street. Simply put, the Casablanca is the perfect place to stay, lots of room to move around, private, quiet and lacks for nothing!! We look forward to going back again!!! Thank you, Don, for making everything so special!!

“Great cottage! Perfect place for a girl's weekend getaway!”

Reviewed 7 Nov 2011

Myself and 3 girlfriends wanted a place to relax and unwind...and shop and drink wine! What a perfect setting! The cottage was so comfortable, we ended up bbqing and eating in 2 or 3 nights, we didn't want to leave. Every morning we enjoyed coffee on the front porch and the beds were very comfortable. Thanks for an easy check-in and out process, we will be recommending the Casablanca Cottage to all! Cheers!

“Casablanca Cottage is a like a nice cozy blanket!”

I rented Casablanca Cottage for a weekend in October to share my 50th birthday with 5 girlfriends. The house and location didn't disappoint! The beds were comfy, the linens dreamy and the kitchen well appointed. We all can't wait to return. If you are considering a get away to Notl, you simpy can't do better than Casablanca Cottage! Thanks again Don!
