“Pastoral, peaceful and serene”

Reviewed 5 Sep 2014

My 10-year old daughter and I spent three lovely summer weeks in the Sunrise Suite at Heathwood. The suite has one large master bedroom with a king-size bed, comfy couch and a big picture window looking out onto the patio, through the pasture and down the wonderful to wake up to every morning! The second bedroom has two twin beds, a chair and a smaller window. All beds were extremely comfortable and had the most luxurious linens. There is a full, well-stocked kitchen which connects to a small eating area and living room. Our favourite part of the suite was the sunny patio where we ate almost every breakfast and dinner. There is a terrific new BBQ along with a large umbrella and very comfortable patio furniture. My daughter fell in love with Jacqui and Ollie's dogs and spent hours playing with them in the large yard. She also go a kick out of feeding the horses and donkeys apples from the tree. There is a fence which will keep the dogs out of the yard if guests are not wanting them to come and visit, but we thoroughly enjoyed their company! The location of Heathwood is quite unique. To me, the beautiful Mount Newton Valley area felt very much like Saltspring Island and sometimes it was hard to believe we were only 25 minutes from downtown Victoria. There are many organic farms and vineyards in the area as well as beaches and parks loaded with trees & hiking trails. There was no shortage of things to do within a 5-10 minute drive. The Peninsula Country Market (local produce, etc.) takes place every Saturday from May until October; the village of Saanichton has most services you could need including a Thrifty's & Shoppers Drug Mart; there are two public golf courses within 5 minutes (Ardmore and Glen Meadows), as well as the beautiful Cordova Bay golf course (18 holes plus a terrific par 3 course) about 10 minutes up the highway. We had an amazing time at the new Panorama Recreation Centre, where there is a lap pool with rope swing, climbing wall and diving boards, a very warm kids pool with a fun lazy river and waterslide as well as a huge hot tub. We discovered a few great beaches, but the closest one is Coles Beach just 4 minutes away. The airport is a 10 minute drive as is Sidney and Brentwood Bay. There is so much more I could tell you about how lovely and convenient the Sunrise Suite is but you're just going to have to experience it for yourself. Jacqui and Ollie are fantastic hosts and will help you out with anything you need. Enjoy!

“Love the Sunrise Suite, and the hosts!”

The Sunrise Suite is a wonderful place to stay when visiting Butchart Gardens, if you're looking for a place of serenity, comfort, and fellowship. It's close enough to some small towns to have decent dining options (5 minutes or so). Go a little farther (up to 15 minutes) and there's a very good selection. But we don't come to Heathwood to be within walking distance of fine dining. We go there because the people are fantastic, their property is almost as pretty as a piece of Butchart Gardens, and it is very peaceful. Sunrise Suite is larger than some apartments. You approach up the lawn and to your own private door. There are two separate bedrooms and one shared bath, a small laundry (perfectly large enough for our purposes), a living room with a view of the pasture and hills, and a cozy kitchen. Everything is as clean as can be, and if you have any problem at all, Jacqui and Ollie are wonderful about taking care of things. It is, at most, a 10 minute drive to Butchart Gardens. Less if you don't have to stop for any traffic. And traffic out there is minimal. If going to Victoria, it's very straight-forward and no more than 40 minutes at rush hour. At least, that's what we encountered. Less, more like 25-30, outside of the relatively-heavy traffic. If you're used to a larger city like Seattle, even the rush hour traffic in Victoria is very light. Sidney is a cute town and just a few minutes north. Really, Sunrise Suite is very centrally located if you're exploring the Saanich Peninsula. We wouldn't hesitate to stay here with our next visit.

“Large, beautiful, quiet suite”

Reviewed 21 Oct 2013

My husband and I rented the Sunrise Suite at Heathwood for the weekend of our wedding, Oct 4-7, 2013. The suite is quite large, so it worked well to for my bridesmaids and I to get ready for the wedding, which included hair and makeup for 6 people. The property is so beautiful so we were able to take some wonderful photos of our dresses etc with the scenery. We also did a reveal photo shoot where my husband and I saw each other for the first time and the property offered a lovely backdrop. Jacqui and Ollie were extremely accommodating and very helpful for us. The suite is beautiful and the bedroom is very spacious, comfortable and nicely decorated. We would definitely recommend this suite for anyone as it can be very functional for a quiet weekend away or used in a similar way as we did.

“Fantastic Experience - Sunrise Suite at Heathwood”

Reviewed 12 Jul 2013

I searched for days until I found this wonderful rental. We decided to go to Victoria for a 4 day excursion to check out this beautiful area. We didn't want to stay right down town, however, we were hoping for something with style, privacy, character, and a place that was close to all of the areas we wanted to see. This place hit the mark and exceeded all of our expectations!! The Sunrise Suite is everything you see in the pictures and much, much more. It is equipped with any and every amenity you can desire. It is so much more than you would typically see from a standard rental. It is a short 15-20 minute drive to Victoria. There are a few small towns and wineries to explore nearby (and so many more places we did not get a chance to see)! Additionally, there are many beaches to explore. We had the opportunity to see the amazing Buschart Gardens (5 minutes from the Sunrise Suite) as well as several beaches, including the Botanical Beach. There are so many things to do and so little time to do them. As an added bonus, while we were sitting on the patio Saturday night, we were able to clearly see the fireworks from Buschart Gardens (which they apparently to have every Saturday during the summertime). You can be sure you will find a few unexpected treasures, as the owners have done such a fabulous job adding beautiful personal touches to the property. Be sure to take time to meet them, as they are quite wonderful and gracious hosts. I am certainly looking forward to our next stay - I only wish it could be more frequent!

Upon arriving at Heathwood our nerves relaxed and stress dissolved because our surroundings were serene and beautiful. Everything about Heathwood was top notch. The grounds were immaculately groomed and the Sunrise Suite was refreshing and tranquil. We immediately renamed the suite "the cottage" since it resembled the quaint English cottages found in England. The art, antiques, and fine linens were tasteful and inviting. We were in love and felt very much at home. The dogs we met by chance and found them to be lovable and mannerly. Our hosts, Jacqui and Ollie were so willing to accommodate us. Thanks to Heathwood our vacation was a true delight. Our only regret was that we couldn't stay longer. We highly recommend this superb place for your next visit to Canada.

“Stayed in the Sunrise Suite at Heathwood”

What a wonderful place! The Sunrise Suite is as advertised, bright and lots of space. Very comfortable bed and felt right at home. The grounds are beautiful and really great views of the mountains and ocean in the distance. Found it centrally located in the Peninsula and it was easy and convenient to go to Victoria, Sidney, Brentwood. There are lots of great places to eat just a short drive away if you don't want to cook. I would definitely stay here again!
