“Lovely apartment”

Reviewed 29 Sep 2016

Carlo met us even though we arrived early and took us to the apartment and was very helpful. The apartment is spacious and light and a mixture of styles, The bedrooms and bathroom are on the lower floor along with a traditional drawing room (we just used it for viewing and sending photos of it to our family pretending we were staying in a stately home!). The comfy sitting room, dining room and kitchen are on the top floor along with the balcony and exceptional views. The kitchen was well equipped and was the only self catering place we stayed in that had an electric kettle and toaster. There are a lot of stairs and the house is halfway up a steep hill so not suitable for those with mobility problems but we knew this before we booked and it was not a problem. We would/will return and thank you Carlo you are a wonderful host,

“We had two wonderful weeks at La Gardenia in Todi.”

La Gardenia in Todi: 2 wonderful weeks We spent two wonderful weeks at La Gardenia in May, 2013, and this was one of our best vacations ever. The apartment is even better than we expected. It is spacious, well furnished with fully equipped kitchen and comfortable beds, and has a balcony with a fabulous view. You can easily walk to any shops in Todi, including places to buy great seafood and freshly made pasta. Parking was also convenient. We took the train from Rome to Orvieto, where we rented a car. Todi is only a short drive from Orvieto, and Carlo met us upon our arrival as planned. He was most gracious in showing us around the apartment and giving us tips on places to go. The apartment has WiFi, which was very convenient for planning our outings in the surrounding towns, such as assisi, Bolsena, and Deruta. This was the first time we had rented an apartment, and everything was just like Carlo's description. We will return soon.

“Everything expected, and with an amazing view.”

Stayed in La Gardenia apartment recently for two weeks with a girlfriend. This apartment meets all requirements: comfortable beds, spacious pleasant bathroom, fresh linen and towels, bed lamps, good lighting over bathroom mirror, power outlet for hair dryer near mirror (and two very good hair dryers), sharp kitchen knives, wine glasses, pleasant roomy kitchen...and a view to die for, even from the upstairs loo! Booking made over Internet, and no problems with payment etc. Carlo, the owner met us as arranged at the Tempio, and graciously escorted us to the apartment, helped bring up the luggage and gave us comprehensive explanations and instructions for everything in the flat, advice on parking our rental car, and sight seeing tips. The apartment is in a quiet location, but only a few minutes walk to the Piazza Popolo, and only one minute to Bar S Maria, where Romeo makes perhaps the perfect cappuccino. We will be back in Todi, and La Gardenia will be first choice for next visit.

“Perfect stay in Umbria”

Reviewed 23 Nov 2012

We spent 4 days at La Gardenia. This is a large, clean apartment with all the amenities. It has beautiful views of the Umbrian hills and a small balcony perfect for watching the sunset. It is a five minutes walk uphill from the parking lot (easy parking). To get to the main plaza it's five minutes too, still uphill (yes, Todi is a hilltown). Carlo, our host, was very knowledgeable and helpful. Todi is beautiful and perfectly located to explore Umbria, and Carlo was more than willing to help.

“A wonderful week in Todi-La Gardenia”

Reviewed 16 Jan 2012

Todi is a marvellous medieval Umbrian hill town and staying at the La Gardenia appartment made it very special. La Gardenia is within easy walking distance from the town square's cafes, shops and historic buildings. It really is like going back in time. The appartment interior is comfortable, well equipped and has fantastic views from its balcony. Some upgrading is planned for winter 2011-12 and this would in my opinion give it a 5 star rating. It is worth while saying that la gardenia is not for anyone with mobility difficulties and you are in a medieval building! Carlo is a wonderful host and we would not hesitate to make a return visit.

This apartment, inside this walled town, and its idyllic surroundings comprised one of the top vacation experiences we have ever had. The two-floor apartment is clean, spacious, well layed-out, comfortable, artfully decorated, and very well stocked with towels, linen, and kitchen equipment and appliances. It is tucked within the ancient walls of this stunningly beautiful Umbrian hill town, with its lovely medieval and renaissance churches and temples, narrow streets, piazzas, and fantastic views. The apartment has many windows which give the rooms a light airy atmosphere, as well as a balcony that gives you a huge unobstructed view of the valley and hills beyond, as well as of the five-domed Santa Maria della Consolazione church. The owner, Carlo, was incredibly helpful and kind, picking us up at the Ponte Rio train station down the hill, and returning us there at the end of our stay. He provided us with a lot of useful information including places and directions to grocery shop, eat (many restaurants, cafes, and pizzerias), and sites to see. The sunsets were spectacular, and the swallows magical. With the exception of an excursion to assisi one day, we were happily content enjoying the sights, sounds, walks, and tranquility of Todi and this beautiful apartment for our week stay, and cannot wait to return!

“Breathtaking views, lovely town.”

Reviewed 3 Jun 2011

In January 2011 we had the pleasure of staying at Carlo's apartment for 10 days. He met us at a nearby coffee shop, and was happy to give us a tour of Todi in our car so that we would be able to find the grocery store and other stores. That was very helpful. The apartment is in the old city so that you can't park a car at it, but it's a short walk up from the parking area, not a problem for us, but may be for someone who doesn't want to walk, but then why are you staying in an Umbrian hill town? Carlo showed us around the apartment and we were floored at how beautiful the views were. The balcony overlooking the valley and surrounding houses is beyond description. It was January and we still managed to enjoy a glass of wine or cup of tea on the balcony. The apartment itself is nice, it's not a fancy hotel but very comfortable for our family. We knew we would be cooking a lot of our meals and the kitchen and dining room were perfect for this. The weather in January can be hit or miss, and we had mostly highs in the 40's with the occasional 50. Heat is not included and we were concerned about using too much gas, so we turned down the heat at night and when we went out for the day and only averaged $10/day for the gas. Todi is an ideal location for staying somewhere central and making daytrips. We visited Norcia, Assisi, Orvieto and Pitigliano. The town of Todi is a beautiful hill town. If you're looking for lots of white marble and statues it might not be for you, but we enjoy the more rustic stonework and narrow winding walks of hill towns like Todi. You could walk to the stores for most groceries or hop in the car if you wanted to go to a larger grocery store. There's also a playground on the top of the hill which was great to have for our kids. Our kids are 5 and 9 and it was fun for them to climb the stairs to the top of the hill from the apartment and run down the beautiful lanes that lead to the park with the playground. All in all it was a highlight of our trip.

“Great town, apartment, view, value!”

This was a wonderful vacation rental. We loved being here, being able to cook, to sit on the balcony admiring the amazing view, to read and lounge around in the pleasant and cozy rooms. Carlo was a terrific host. The information in the apartment is comprehensive and very helpful, and Carlo himself was always available to help with any problems. We ran into him on the plaza one day and he took time to walk us to some places in town we had not yet explored. He speaks excellent English (as well as some French!) and was a super guide. Groceries were near the apartment, as were a number of nice restaurants. Todi itself is a marvel. We had no car but really enjoyed walking in the town and the environs. Our only caveat: Todi itself requires the ability to walk up and down fairly steep hills (which became easy after a day or two) and the apartment is reached only by a couple of flights of stairs. We will come back to Todi and La Gardenia!

“High praise for La Gardenia”

Reviewed 28 May 2011

Far exceeded our expectations in terms of the quality of the accommodation & the beauty of the area. Carlo was an excellent host & provided much helpful advice to assist us in exploring the beautiful Umbria area. Carlo's advice on purchasing local produce within Todi was also invaluable & assisted us in having many memorable meals.
