“Beautiful and comfortable apartment”

Reviewed 18 Jul 2014

We LOVED our stay at Casa Colomba! It was the perfect spot for our relaxing vacation in Tuscany. Having been to Italy before and seen some typical tourist destinations, we wanted a more remote, relaxing vacation spot. Vicopisano and Casa Colomba were perfect for this. A sleepy little town with a coffee shop/bar, several nice restaurants, and lovely accommodations served our needs well. The apartment was spacious and comfortable; Marie and Lorenzo have thought of just about everything a traveler might need. We spent quite a bit of time reading, napping or enjoying a glass of wine on the loggia. Every detail was tended to in this apartment; Marie and Lorenzo are great proprietors. We used our apartment as our home base for day trips to Pisa, Lucca, Florence and San Gimignano. Driving through the Tuscan countryside was breathtaking. We highly recommend Casa Colomba to other travelers seeking a relaxing, beautifully appointed apartment for their vacation.

“We want to return!”

Reviewed 23 Jun 2014

We didn't have time to read the reviews in the room, as we were so busy exploring this beautiful part of Italy...But I am sure everyone has mentioned what a fantastic apartment this is! We loved this place because of the views we got as we opened our shuttered windows each morning....I could do a wash, hang the clothes outside the windows to dry (just like my neighbors and in the movies!) then take off for the day to explore the Tower (don't miss the guided tour), Pisa (Marie has printed up a wonderful walking tour of Pisa) and Florence! We cooked in the immaculate kitchen, enjoyed the comfy bed and the decor and furnishings made the apartment our favorite ever!! We absolutely LOVED this "home away from home" truly was the best! ...And, thanks Marie and Lorenzo for you help and hospitality. Marie, you were such a great resource! Oh, I almost forgot,....we took an awesome cooking class...the highlight of my husband's trip, as it was his birthday..... Not to be missed as one of the Memorable Experiences Marie can provide for visitors. Thank you!!

“Must stay”

Reviewed 15 Jan 2014

We came to the Casa in Vicopicano after a stay in Cinque Terre. We picked up a car rental at the Pisa airport (so easy to do) and drove the short distance to begin our stay in Tuscany. The apartment (3rd level North american, by stairs) is so perfect: comfortable, spacious, tastefully decorated in a style suiting the region with modern touches, the only thing lacking was the chance to meet Marie and Lorenzo as they were away on their own holiday at the same time. The tours recommended by them, the olive farm and the ceramics were great, highly recommend the olive farm! The village is very walkable, with some interesting sites to visit.

Response from the owner Dear Louise & B Thank you so much for your lovely review of casa Colomba. We are so pleased you enjoyed staying at the apartment and that you enjoyed the olive farm visit, we must say it is a highlight for a lot of our guests. It was such a shame Lorenzo and I didn't get to meet you. We do hope that you come back and visit again one day in the future . In the meantime I hope you are enjoying keeping up with all our local news and events through our facebook page- Thank you for liking our page, thank you for choosing Casa Colomba and thank you for being our 60th review on Flipkey/Tripadvisor! Warmest regards Marie and Lorenzo

“Classic Tuscan Vacation”

Reviewed 2 Dec 2013

This was our first visit to Tuscany and Casa Colomba was impressive in all respects! Marie & Lorenzo were excellent hosts, undoubtedly the best we have encountered in all our Vrbo planned vacations. Marie was prompt and informative in our email exchanges and provided an extensive welcome packet prior to the visit which left no questions unanswered. The apartment itself is very large, modern and comfortable, a perfect place to unwind after a day of touring. No need to bring tour books as extensive information is provided in the apartment as well as a welcome gift of various foodstuffs and coffee. Vicopisano is a small, beautiful hill town which is off the beaten tourist track - perfect for anyone wishing to experience "real" Tuscan living. There are two bar/cafes just down the street on the plaza for cappuccino and pastries in the morning or snacks in the afternoon. A small grocery store and a bakery are conveniently located just down from the plaza. There is also a rotisserie, which has meats and prepared foods for takeout close to the plaza. For evening meals there is a takeout pizzeria in town as well as two excellent restaurants, one of which is within easy walking distance. Not to be missed is Marie's walking tour of the town, a local ceramics shop and an olive oil processing facility. Another "must do" is a tour of the Rocca del Brunelleschi, the fortress on the hill in town. Vicopisano is conveniently located for those interested in exploring Northern Tuscany - Florence, Pisa and the Chianti region are easy day trips as are the hill towns of Voltarre, Vinci and San Gimignano. Casa Colomba definitely exceeded our expectations and provided a wonderful Tuscan experience.

Response from the owner Dear Bob & Carol Thank you so much for your kind and informative review. We are so pleased that you enjoyed discovering our little undiscovered part of Tuscany. We love the fact that apart from visiting many of the must see sites and bigger cities of Tuscany, that you were able to discover the local area and traditions. The visit to the ceramic workshop, olive farm and tour of the Brunelleschi Fortress are often a highlight for our guests and it was a pleasure to be able to share the experience with you both. Now that you have been to Tuscany once we do hope you will come back and visit us again one day in the future. There really is a lot more yet to see!!! Thank you again for choosing Casa Colomba. Kindest regards Marie & Lorenzo

“Romantic getaway in a quiet village”

Reviewed 4 Nov 2013

Lovely modern apartment with oldie world features. I was a little confused as the apartment stated it was a medieval tower house apartment, the picture featured is not where the apartment is, perhaps that was due to my ignorance and the fact that I am blonde! The owners are very friendly and helpful, and the welcome pack was a real treat. A car is essential if you want to get out of the village, although there is a bus service this is irregular and there are none entering the village in the evening. If you do not have a car it is really expensive travelling by taxi. The wine bar is amazing a luscious glass of wine is only 1 euro! we also recommend the pizza takeaway for amazing cheap pizzas. All in all this was a brill holiday which definitely can be done at an amazing budget.

Response from the owner Dear Liz and Andrew Firstly we must thank you very much for your review of Casa Colomba. It was nice to hear that the Welcome pack we provide on arrival was greatly appreciated and that you enjoyed discovering the village wine bar and Pizza Takeaway. You do mention in your review that the apartment in which you stayed was not the same property which is shown in our listing/advert photograph. We feel we really must address this comment and clarify the situation for the benefit of future guests reading this review. We can assure you that the main photo on our advert/listing is that of Casa Colomba. In the photograph you can see 3 Towers, the one in the foreground is the Tower of Casa Colomba. The window in the Tower is the window of the bedroom , the bedroom in which you slept during your stay with us. We can quite understand why you may not have realized that you were sleeping in a Medieval Tower as the Tower is at the rear of the house which faces the countryside and hills. Casa Colomba is situated in a Medieval street which consists of many Tower houses however typically many of these Towers where placed at the rear of the house. In Medieval times the front of these Tower houses may have had a commercial use in the way of a shop or offices and this could be due to the fact that the Medieval Tower houses tended to be owned by either nobles or wealthy merchants. We photographed the rear of Casa Colomba so that the 12th century Tower which we consider to be a unique feature of our home could be seen by those who are looking to stay in an authentic property with unique features. In your review you mentioned that it is essential to have transport to get around. We state on our listing that car hire is recommended. We recommend renting a car for those travelers who are interested in visiting places not on the obvious tourist trail (such as the interesting Natural History Museum in the village of Calci which you visited during your stay). Pisa, Lucca and Florence can all easily be reached by public transport from the village as a day trip. In our Pre-Welcome pack which we email to all our guests 6 weeks before arrival we include a timetable of buses from the village, plus a link to the Rail timetable (in English) . We hope that by providing this information in advance it may help our guests make the right decision as to whether they need to rent a car. We also point out that Taxi’s may be difficult to book outside of normal business hours. We are so sorry that you paid a lot in Taxi fares but we do hope that by Lorenzo picking you up from the railway station when you couldn't get a taxi on a Sunday and that by picking up a takeaway pizza for you from a restaurant that we may have eased the cost for you just a little. You did say that you would like to come back and visit again one day, we hope you do because there is still a lot more to explore in this authentic corner of Tuscany, where you can still get a “luscious” glass of wine for just one Euro. Finally we would like to thank you again for your support in choosing Casa Colomba and for your review which we are sure a lot of future guests will find very helpful. Kindest regards Marie & Lorenzo

“The Best apartment/house we've ever stayed in!”

Reviewed 8 Jul 2013

Dear Marie and Lorenzo, our apologies not having sent this review earlier. Casa Colomba is the best apartment/house we've ever stayed in. This was our 5th time in Tuscany. Had previously stayed in hotels, rented a house in Chianti and twice in a small village near Siena. Having red the reviews and seen the photos we thought that this was just too good to be true. A lovely restored and decorated apartment in a small medieval village in Toscana only 20km from Pisa! Our expectations were very high and I'm please to tell You that they were exceeded! Casa Colomba is even more beautiful and spacious than in photos! Our charming hosts Marie and Lorenzo made us feel at home right away, and yes there was a bottle of chilled Prosecco waiting for us. Even before our arrival Marie sent us a pre Welcome pack which included lots of information of Vicopisano etc. Marie's red/pink book in the apartment is full of information and very good detailed instructions how to drive to the supermarket, the wine shop in next village etc. There are lots of maps and guide books as well. The parking lot is near and it's safe to leave your car there. If You are planning to stay during the winter months, the heating system in Casa Colomba is very good. Even though there are so many beautiful places to go and see with in less than an hour to reach like Pisa, Firenze, Lucca, Volterra, San Gimignano, Vinci, San Miniato etc I highly recommend that You stay at least one day in this beautiful village and visit La Rocca del Brunelleschi and near by wine/olive grove for olive oil and wine tasting. We also enjoyed having aperitifs at the local corner bar. Just sat there and watched people go by. Marie and Lorenzo are exceptional hosts, more than one can ask for. They really do care and help you to make your holiday for an unforgettable experience. We are already planning our next holiday and will definitely stay in Casa Colomba! So Thank You once more Dear Marie and Lorenzo, see You next year!

Response from the owner Dear Eeva-Liisa & Ola Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review for Casa Colomba and of course for your very kind words. We had great fun people watching with you in the square over an aperitivo or two!!! Thank you for letting our future guests know all about our little secret gem of Vicopisano, we are so pleased you enjoyed discovering the Castel and the tasting of Olive oil and wine at the Frantoio of Vicopisano. Remember to book early for next year, we don’t want you to miss out!!! Warmest regards Marie & Lorenzo

“A unique rural retreat”

Reviewed 9 Jun 2013

Casa Colomba is a great base for a tour around tuscany. Marie and Lorenzo have made it a wonderful romantic retreat, and have thought of everything. There is quite a few steps to climb up to the door, but the view of the rooftops and the countryside are amazing. We visited Lucca, Buti, Florence, Pisa and the beach, all of which are within easy reach. We caught the train from Pontedera to Pisa and Florence, really easy to use. Everyone is very friendly, and the local village has everything you need, with bigger supermarkets near by. The only downside is there are no restaurants right in the village to walk to for an evening meal if you want a drink, that was the only thing for us, however it didn't spoil a lovely week in Tuscany.

Response from the owner First we must thank you for taking the time to write a review for Casa Colomba and for describing the apartment as a “unique rural retreat”. It is nice to hear that you managed to visit so many places such as Florence, Pisa, Lucca and coast with such ease from the apartment. You mentioned in your review that there are no restaurants in the village that are within walking distance, I’m so sorry to hear that you may have missed the Osteria at the edge of the village which is about a 7 – 10 minute walk away, and although not strictly a restaurant the Enotecca wine bar in the village does serve simple rustic food. The most important thing is that you said this didn’t ruin your holiday and we are happy to hear you enjoyed your time with us here at Casa Colomba and the village of Vicopisano and we really hope to welcome you back one day in the future. Warm regards Marie & Lorenzo

“Great time in a small place in Italy”

Reviewed 4 Jun 2013

We were very pleased with the apartment. It is well equipped for meals in, lots of room, a great bed. Plenty of touring information available and the owner Marie was very friendly and helpful with ideas for restaurants and places to see. We roamed the area and went on a tour of the main fortress, the Rocca, which gave us fascinating insights to the last 1,000 years of the political contest of Pisa vs. Florence. We visited Pisa, Lucca and Volterra easily. We are very glad we chose Vicopisano. Wish we could have stayed longer.

Response from the owner Dear Jack and kay Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review for Casa Colomba. It was great to hear that you found the apartment roomy and that our Tuscan bed is great! We really do appreciate this type of feedback. We are so pleased you enjoyed discovering the charms of Vicopisano and it’s wonderful medieval fortress. It was so lovely to meet you both but our only regret is that you couldn’t have stayed a little longer as you found out there is a lot more to discover in our little village! We hope you come back and visit us again soon Kindest regards Marie & lorenzo

“A Jewel in the Crown that is Tuscany”

Reviewed 20 May 2013

Tim and I are fellow Flipkey owners and I knew that Marie was a professional, attentive property owner even before we arrived. Her prompt responses and the area information that she supplied prior to our trip made me feel we had made the right choice. Upon arrival, this was confirmed to the utmost. Marie and Lorenzo were charming, gracious hosts and were a fountain of information and tips that made our trip so much better than it would have been otherwise. Do not skip the tour of the Tower or of the olive farm as both were hightlights of our trip as many others have stated. The apartment was lovely, the bed was comfortable and the amenities were all that we needed. You can enjoy eating in or visit one of the many fine restaurants that are all a short drive (and an interesting one if you go to Buti!) away. Visopisano is an excellent location to tour the area but we found we were happiest when we sat in the square sipping Chianti and Moretti and watching the locals come and go. Thank you Marie and Lorenzo for an unforgettable vacation that we will carry in our memories forever. Tim is even talking about retiring there

Response from the owner Dear Lynne D It is always wonderful to receive positive reviews from our guests but to receive such kind words and gratitude from a fellow VRBO owner it makes us feel very proud. You and Tim were such great fun and it was lovely to meet you both and share some time with you at the Olive farm and for a drink in the Piazza. How much longer is it before Tim retires? We will happily reserve seat for him at his favourite bar! Till then take care, keep in touch, and it’s great to keep up with you on our facebook page. Kindest regards Marie and Lorenzo

“The Best of Tuscany”

Reviewed 29 Mar 2013

If you want to experience what Tuscany is all about, then Casa Colomba should be your home base to all the wonderful sights. Vicopisano is a little medieval jewel perched on a hill and overlooking a splendid Tuscan landscape. Casa Colomba is a cozy, charming, comfortable, and uniquely beautiful house. Coming "home" to Casa Colomba each day after outings to Rome, Florence, Lucca, Pisa, etc. was most definitely a highlight of our vacation. Walking distance to the local bar and the local grocery store, we felt we lived the Italian life even for a short week. Marie and Lorenzo are the most hospitable and charming landlords. We plan to be back during summer months to live and love life in Tuscany. Thank you Marie and Lorenzo.

Response from the owner Dear Cinzia Thank you for your lovely review about our “little medieval jewel” perched on a hill. It is wonderful to hear such poetic words to describe our little piece of Tuscany! Lorenzo and I want to thank you for your support in choosing Casa Colomba for your holiday here in Vicopisano and we are delighted that you found our Casa Colomba charming, cozy and comfortable! It was great fun to meet you guys and we can’t wait to you come back and visit us again. Till then take care and warmest regards Marie and Lorenzo
