“A Fun Week with Children and Grandchildren!”

Reviewed 2 Oct 2011

The house offered lots of room for 8 adults and 6 children(8 years old and under). We loved the long table for all of us to eat together! The lake was quiet and beautiful. The grassy area offered a place for kids to play. The decks were great! We did not feel the dock was safe for small children; the edgings had nails protuding, etc. Taking the trash to a dumpster on the last night was inconvenient as we could not find it! Otherwise, a great home!

Response from the owner Hi Marilyn, Thank you for staying at Bear Den South. We greatly appreciate your feedback. Since you mentioned having trouble finding the trash drop off we have contracted with someone to pick up trash from the house for $25,00 especially since the dump is closed on Sunday and Wednesday. We will still give renters the option to drop it off themselves if they want to save the $25.00. I am sorry about the dock, we do have older children so the dock after the ramp to the house is a 2012 project. We hope to have it finished before next season. Again thank you for staying with us at Bear Den South. Liz and Paul

“Pleasant and Serene”

Reviewed 18 Aug 2011

The house and the setting are very nice. The large, open living / dining /kitchen area is very good for enjoying time together. The deck and view are lovely. The hiuse needs some upkeep and updating in some areas. Beds were not made, no curtains at master room. Bathrooms need updating... l

Response from the owner Dear Steve, We appreciate your feedback on the house. Since your stay there have been curtains added to the Master bedroom on the second level. It is the house policy not to make the beds so that guest know that the sheets are clean. Thank you for staying at Bear Den South. Sincerely, Liz and Paul Johnson

“Foothills Retreat”

Reviewed 22 Aug 2010

It was my pleasure and privilege to be among the first to visit the Bear Den South on Cherokee Lake in Tennessee. I thoroughly enjoyed my weekend at the huge, 5 bedroom, house on the lake with the fire pit in the back yard a few feet from the water. The retreat is the perfect blend of fun and entertainment for younger folk with peace and quiet for those of my generation. Meals were excellent, coffee was hot and strong, and our hosts, present on this occasion, were charming and gracious. The Tennessee Valley authority limits building on the 60 mile long lake, keeping the tree line close to the water line, and preventing the more gaudy of the eye sore residences from being built. The many islands are open to the public for camping and picnicking, a privilege I hope to use on my next visit. I only regret not staying longer. Thanks Liz, thanks Paul, I hope to see you again soon!

“Wonderfully relaxing weekend!”

Loved house. The amount of bedrooms allowed everyone their own space if they needed it while the huge communal rooms were great for getting together. Enjoying breakfast on the deck while watching the cranes taking off from the shoreline is something that I will always remember.

“Anniversary Celebration Friendship and Relaxation”

There wasn't a moment that the day to day stress crept into our visit. Total relaxation and comfort all weekend. All we had to was bring the fun and with friends there that added the needed ingredient.

“Enjoyable and Relaxing Long Weekend”

Reviewed 4 Aug 2010

I stayed at this house over Memorial Weekend, and had one of the best weekends ever. The house was beautiful and I was felt relaxed immediately. There were enough bedrooms and bathrooms for everyone to have their own space. I was able to enjoy the sun on the porch or the dock, and relax close to the water on the most comfortable and well built hammock ever. The water was warm and peaceful. At night, there is fire-pit perfect for making smores and the neighbors were so nice and kind. I can't wait to go back :)

“The hot”

Reviewed 3 Aug 2010

Some friends and I went down to the lake house for a weekend and had a great time. The place looked spectacular upon entering and it felt homey and cozy. We spent most of our second day there on the porch and used the grill (provided) to cook all of our meals that day. We also got a chance to lay out on the dock and enjoy some time by the water's edge and even took the kayak out for a bit. Overall this was a great experience and I would definitely do it again.

“Home away From Home”

Reviewed 2 Aug 2010

When I first arrived at the house, it was late and very dark. Waking up the next morning, I was blown away by the amazing lake view and beautiful setting. The large decks on the back of the house are perfect for relaxing and looking at the lake and the water was perfect for swimming. Inside, the house is very cozy with plenty of space for a large group of people. Definitely the perfect place to escape reality.

“A piece of heaven in Rutledge, TN!”

Reviewed 28 Jul 2010

Plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms. Large dining area and common area upstairs and downstairs. Beautiful deck wraps around entire back of house overlooking the lake. We were very comfortable and relaxation came easily. We may never come back home on our next visit! Thanks, Liz and Paul, for a spectacular get-away in heaven! Mark & Marlene
