Welcome to the newly remodeled Paia Surf House, which easily accommodates parties of 5-9 (unused parts of the house can be closed off, saving $$$) – or splurge and make it all just a honeymoon palace for two. When you're at Paia Surf, you can stash the car keys for days on end if you want – and walk everywhere! How cool is that? (Driving is SO overrated.) Shops/restaurants/cafes/galleries and, yes, the beach, are all out the front door, no further than a couple blocks. And Paia is a gem of a coastal village, right beside the mighty blue Pacific's open waters. You're guaranteed to feel the ocean's power, one way or another.
Whether you're part of a multi-generational family gathering, or an intimate romantic escapade, this luxury house is all yours while you're there. And the house works great in different ways. Designed to be enjoyed communally, it also has plenty of little hideaway features that allow for privacy; places to get away from it all – the LANAI, for one, and some outdoor/backyard grotto space. Very versatile, with an extreme 'Oh WOW!' factor the moment you step inside.
Paia Surf has five bedrooms and four full bathrooms - all newly remodeled. Its all double-walled construction, with NEW insulation - windows - doors - stone tile floors - plumbing - electrical. The theme throughout? Driftwood. Sea glass. Sand. Every room has it's own quiet solar electric AC unit. There are 4 parking stalls on the property. Paia Surf can be rented as a whole, or with portions closed off, making it potentially a one-two-three-four- or five-bedroom rental. THE RATE ESTIMATE ON THIS SITE STARTS WITH THE UPPER LEVEL 3 BEDROOMS, 2 BATH. THIS IS A 5 BEDROOM, 4 BATH HOME AND YOU CAN RENT LESS BEDROOMS FOR A SMALLER RATE so please contact the owner about price variation for more bedrooms. Maui County regulation allows two guests per bedroom and only one rental group, on the same rental agreement, staying at the home at any one period of time. With this in mind, parts of Paia Surf can easily be locked off for smaller rental groups, that way guests are not charged for all of the existing bedrooms. For vacation homes in Maui these regulations ensure that guests have the ultimate private experience and Paia Surf really does feel like your home away from home!
The second story has a small ocean view, gourmet kitchen and large lanai complete with comfortable outdoor furnishings. The ground level potentially has 2 bedrooms each with their own full bathroom; one with king bed and a kitchenette (wet bar) and outdoor BBQ with cooking element, the other bedroom has a queen bed, fridge and microwave. The lower bedrooms each have their own private lanais and can either be connected or separated. The house feels light and bright, insulated and quiet, even though it is located in the heart of Paia. The house is just off the road thru town, three houses from the shore. Beach access is around the block and about a five-minute walk. Check in is at 3pm. Check out at 10am. There is a seven-night minimum stay.
Folks who come to Paia love “the coolest little town in Maui” – one of the island's most charming hideaways. Escaping the tourist sprawl of steel and glass rising high, Paia is a nod to the remnants of Hawaii's past, when it was a sugar cane plantation village. You can almost imagine the company store on Main Street. And what better way to experience its timeless, laid back essence than residing in this charming, almost-at-the-beach/in-the-heart-of-the-village house. You're not just a visitor, you live there, mixing with the locals! Turn one way outside your door, and you're strolling by some of the island's best restaurants, earthy little cafes, places to get a holistic massage or tribal tattoo, or a tasty cocktail while enjoying live music, historical sites, surf shops ... all just a stroll out the door. Turn the other way and it's a short walk to the beach and all its glories of sun/sea/sand. Never been to Shangri La? Hey - you live in Paia - and that's even better.
As a local family and business owners on this island, we feel privileged and proud to be able to contribute to our community by providing a service that benefits our town and the visitors who make long journeys from distant lands to experience the island of Maui. The north shore is the heart and soul of Maui. In Paia, you will be part of a community that feels more 'local' than touristy, more homegrown and friendly than fussy - quite different from the south, and west, shores, jammed with high rise mega-resorts from one end to the other.
Experience the essence of old and new Maui at The Paia Surf. Come visit our home. We've lived here - and loved it - a long time.
Aloha and All The BEST,
Annie, Chris, Dylan and Evan McNeil

We are local Maui people living in Wailuku. We really enjoyed our week in Paia and especially enjoyed the beautiful Paia Surf. What a wonderful remodel job and a great location. Will probably stay there again.
“Family Fun, Relaxation and Great Memories Made at Paia Surf”
From the moment we arrived at Paia we felt at home and well taken care of. Chris met with us within hours of our arrival to greet us and show us the best way to the beach and pointers on the house as well as best places to eat in Paia. The home design and decor was fabulous - with no detail missed from beach towels, chairs, outdoor foot taps and showers to comfortable beds. We rented the entire house for 3 weeks and loved greatly enjoyed the character, personality and care put into this home. The outdoor Lanais were fantastic - especially upstairs with well appointed furniture and a dining table with a peek at the ocean. We are very fond of Paia for so many reasons, the surf and laid back attitude, friendly locals, boutique one of a kind shops and the best in restaurants. We absolutely Love Flatbreads. Not always easy to get a table - but that speaks for itself. A must during your stay. The beaches for the most part are a well kept secret in Paia not a lot of tourists, a great selection from tide beaches to high surf - white sand and space....a relief from the higher tourist side of the island. The house was incredible and in the heart of it all in Paia- although the high quality of the house made for quiet nights and a peaceful retreat. With an extended family staying over the holidays we found it very convenient - with shopping beaches and restaurants steps away there was something for everyone. We also found the location very convenient being close to the airport for pick and drop offs. The house is also close to Hookipa and Jaws on more than one occasion we simply sat and watched the surfers, kite surfers and windsurfers in amazement. Annie was exceptional in responding to any questions we had during our stay and her genuine concern over our experience and vacation was evident. We could go on and on but we encourage you to experience Paia Surf for yourself. Thank you Annie and Chris- Paia Surf created memories for our family that will last a lifeltime. Sincerely, Laura & John, Alberta, Canada
“Best Vacation Ever”
The title is not hyperbole, this was our best vacation ever. Annie and Chris, the owners had thought of everything we might need. We walked in the door and the place was even nicer than the pictures. There was even cold beer in the fridge. The ocean view from the deck was the perfect place for a cup of coffee and a surf check in the morning. The beach was a short walk with fun waves right out front. There were even lots of toys for our three year old. We were so impressed with Paia Surf that we booked a weekend at Annie and Chris's house in Bodega Bay, Birdwatch. Thanks so much for an amazing trip. We will be back. Bruce, Leslie and Asher
“Fantastic! Steps away from Town and Close to the Beach!”
My family and I stayed at Paia Surf in april 2014. Annie and Chris run a great rental. They are both friendly and easy going yet professional. Our party of 5 included my toddler son (19 months). I was impressed with the selection of baby gear provided -- travel stroller, 2 pack and plays, full size high chair, a portable booster seat, baby monitor, and a large basketful of sand toys! We appreciated that the house had all the necessary amenities -- grill, kitchen with a dishwasher, large load washer and dryer, free wifi, beach gear, outdoor showers, and fully loaded with supplies (e.g., TP, cleaning supplies, etc.) -- which eased traveling with a toddler. If you arrive with children, be sure to ask about the secret pathway to the beach. For safety purposes, my only suggestion would be to sharpen the kitchen knives. While they sort of worked with a bit of force, they were quite dull. Everything else was spot on. Cheers!
“The place to stay in Maui”
Where should I start?!?! Chris and annie were some of the best airBnB hosts. Period. Annie was extremely quick with responses to text or phone calls and Chris went out of his way to ensure we knew the lay of the apartment and the surroundings around the apartment. Their guest house in Paia is 5 star. It is essentially like a resort you would see in Wailea except you are staying where the locals stay! This location could not be more convenient to beaches, super cool local shopping and restaurants, excursions and the airport. If you go to Maui, do your self a favor and stay here. These beats the socks off of the resort type locations that are slammed with tourists and over priced run of the mill hotels.
“Beautiful house with everything we needed.”
Paia Surf is exactly as photographed, a beautiful, comfortable, modern home, right in the middle of quirky Paia, very close to the beach. Annie was extremely helpful and did everything to make sure we had a great stay. We rented the entire house, all three suites, and found it provided exactly enough privacy and together time for our three families. The outdoor showers were awesome; so were the lanais. We did have an issue with hot water, since they use solar hot water heating and we had lots of cloudy days, but Chris came over the same evening and adjusted something, which mostly solved the problem. The house is well-stocked with kitchen tools (including a blender), has a great entertainment system (Smart TV, so you can watch Netflix etc.), and some good board games. The wifi worked great. We made good use of the beach towels, beach chairs and umbrellas. No boogie boards, but those are pretty cheap to rent. Paia is a fun location; the beaches are not gentle enough for kids to play in (waves will knock over an adult), but it was great to watch the surfers, and it's a beautiful walk along the beach to Baldwin Beach. We took the kids to Baby Beach (west of Baldwin Beach), a 3 minute drive away, or we went to Kihei, about 40 min away. Paia has great restaurants and shopping (make sure you go to Mana Foods), and it's a good place to start the road to Hana (leave early in the morning; you'll want all day) or Haleakala (be sure to stop in Makawao for breakfast at the place behind the steakhouse). We will probably stay in Kihei next time, just because we enjoyed those beaches the most, and we don't ever need to drive to Hana again. But Paia is a nice change from the more touristy/resorty parts of the island. If we do go back to Paia we will definitely stay at the Paia Surf again.
“A relaxing holiday in paradise”
We have been to Pa'ia previously but wanted to stay somewhere closer to town. Paia Surf is on the doorsteps of town (and I mean a small, friendly, shopping and restaurant area). We were blown away on our arrival. Beautifullly presented home with a calming and beach feel to it. You can't help but feel on holiday here. 2 mins stroll to the beach, beautiful views and the most caring and helpful host. All the amenities you need for cooking and relaxing at home. Fantastic outdoor living area. We are counting down until we can come back.
“Best Vacation Home in Paia”
We rented the upstairs and downstairs to this property. The owners were welcoming and helpful from the first moment we arrived. The house is clean, every detail from the outside showers to the drying racks for beach clothes is provided for. The house is clean and open. I am not doing it justice, but combine the location, the home, the easy path to the beach, the helpful owners and you have the best way to experience Paia. I recommend this home to anyone looking to stay in Paia or Maui.
If you are looking for a place to stay that is beautifully decorated, in a local area, and with owners who want to make sure you have a perfect vacation then this is your place! We were looking for a place that had more of a local vibe, away from the tourist experience, and this place nailed it. We could drive to any part of the island with such ease and stick around Paia for days of laying in the sun and/or relaxing. Chris and annie were always available and were super helpful when I was looking to book diving & surfing activities. They both know Maui very well, so their recommendations are well worth using. Side recommendations: Paia Bay Coffee for the best coffee, Mana Foods for groceries, Mama's Fish House for a memorable meal, and Ho'okipa Beach to watch locals impress you with their surfing & windsurfing skills while laying on the beach.
“A breath of fresh air...”
After spending time on the mainland of Hawaii in a beautiful resort, it was hard to believe that our vacation could improve. Little did we know what we had in store at Paia Surf. Prior to our arrival, our family felt cared for due to the kindness and hospitality of our hosts. Annie went above and beyond to make sure that Paia Surf was tailored to fit our family's individual needs. Chris & Annie care for Paia Surf as if it was their own house - the pictures online do not give it justice. We loved the small details - fresh fruit, handcrafted soaps, and local beer - placed for us to enjoy on our stay. In addition, the housekeepers are fantastic, and every surface was immaculate upon our arrival. Paia Surf is located in the heart of the bustling town of Paia and allowed us to transform from tourists to members of the community. Each day we were able to buy fresh fruit, veggies, and fish from a local market and make delicious meals. Chris and annie offered great recommendations to authentic restaurants and local activities. Best of all, Paia Surf was located only a few blocks from the beach! While it was the most beautiful beach we encountered on our trip, it wasn't crowded. Residents greeted us warmly in town and on the beach - truly teaching us the meaning of the "Aloha Spirit!" We are so thankful to Chris & Annie for making our stay memorable, and we look forward to returning someday! I promise you, once you visit this Paia Surf you will never want to leave!
