“Lovely Community but the devil is in the details.”

Reviewed 31 Jan 2013

The condo was comfortable but was not quite ready for "prime time". The through the door ice dispenser did not work at all. The hide-a-bed in the living room was not all comfortable seating. The unit was neat and clean. The closet in the 2nd bedroom was loaded with all sorts of things on the floor which made hanging items difficult. There were extra decorative shelves, pictures taken off the walls and various odds and ends. In the same bedroom the lamp on the bedside table nearest the bathroom was broken. There were no bath mats for either bathroom upstairs when we arrived so we requested and were given them by the office staff who were very pleasant. One major "extra" for travelers who come from great distance would be a basket of things like extra toilet paper, 4 or 5 dishwater tabs, several washing machine soap packets and rinse agents and tissues. We flew all day to get there and then to go shopping was really hard. We were told these items were not included but the option for a fee would be the basket I suggested. Even a small grocery list such as coffee, milk,OJ and English muffins or bread for toast, butter, snack items etc. Many places we have stayed before do have this service and it is very nice for travelers who are there just for 4 or 5 days. The location is great; so near the beautiful National Parks and the museums of Pensacola. Restaurants in the area are a mixed bag. They are not much on looks but the seafood is fresh and well prepared and the service is very pleasant. All in all it is a very nice change from all the high rises on the beach which have no appeal for us at all. It was a nice winter break for us and with temps in the 70's it was a extra treat.

“Beautifully appointed condo - Lovely stay”

immaculately clean! Lovely decor, You actually have the entire house not just a condo. Very large kitchen (I made Christmas dinner in it!) One reminder, when you grocery shop add garbage bags, paper towels and dawn to your shopping list. Only one garbage bag was provided. The washing machine and dryer are full size and conveniently located on the first floor near the kitchen. There was a bread machine in the kitchen too and it was fun to make homemade bread in (I have always wanted to try one of those out!)

“Great Get away!”

I was born in Pensacola, now live in Ocala Fl, But I bring my family home to visit every year. We enjoyed the place so much, it was like being at home. Quiet, clean and everything we needed. Thank you for making our stay so nice. We will make sure to return.

“Wonderfully relaxing!”

What a great condo! It's actually more like a townhouse - very spacious! All of the rooms are very nicely decorated. My husband actually had me look up the bedspread online because he wants to buy it! The location is not too far from the beach. I'm from the area so I know where the little free public beach access areas are located, but I would recommend getting a week pass for $8 at the Gulf Islands National Seashore (Johnson's Beach). Well worth the cost as they have much nicer facilities! The condo is also within a good distance to the Naval air Station where the Blue angels perform free practice shows each Tuesday and Wednesday. As far as amenities, the pool areas aren't as nice as I originally thought. The 'tiki bar' is not open and people were drinking, talking very loud and smoking cigarettes, which does not make for a relaxing experience. Please also note that the pool is very shallow. The only thing that is keeping me from giving the condo itself 5 stars is the condition of the bath towels (really, really need to be replaced, ) and the kitchen non-stick skillets (all of the 'non stick' surfaces are peeling off...can't cook in them). The condo is very quiet and stayed amazingly cool considering what the temperatures were. The staff were always quite helpful when I called with a request or questions.

Response from the manager Thanks for the feedback. I've relayed the info concerning the towels and cookware to the owner - new stuff is on the way! Next time, let us know while you are here if you need anything and we will do our best to make it happen. Glad you had a good time overall and we look forward to seeing you again soon! The people at the rental company were freindly and accomodating. The home was sooo much better than the high rises; We prefer that. The location, while not on the beach, was great for shoping and resturants.

“Very relaxing!”

The toliet in the larger bedroom continued to run after being flushed. We had to raise the handle manually to get it to stop. Also there was a "raccoon hole" in the front porch screen when we arrived. Both of these were no problem...just wanted to make you aware of them. The bed in the large bedroom was so comfortable...I wanted to take it home with me! We had everything we needed for our short stay. The rooms are beautiful...we had a great time in the lovely house. I would not recommend this house for older people. The tub was very high. A little difficult getting in and out.

“Great House - Tiki Bar and Pool Questionable”

Reviewed 10 Jul 2011

We loved the Hakuna Matata 23C home. It was nicely decorated and had plenty of room for our family of four. We would have loved a tv in the both rooms upstairs, but overall fantastic accommodations in the home. The staff in the rental office was friendly and helpful, albeit difficult to reach by phone the morning of our trip. I kept receiving a message to call back later and after several attempts, finally spoke to a person to arrange our late check in. The pool was not as large as it appeared to me in pictures. Of course it is hard to tell how big a pool is from pictures. We were very surprised to see a very large sign at the entrance stating "open to the public." I was not always comfortable with the "public guests" at the pool and bar and the adult atmosphere that created for my children. Many of the afternoon and evening guests appeared unclean and very intoxicated. Dreadlocks and tatoos seemed to be the common theme among patrons. I also did not like not being able to bring water or a juice box to the pool for my children. All food and drinks had to be purchased from the bar. The pool was definitely not family friendly and for that reason, we will probably not stay at this resort again.

“Our stay at Purple Parrot”

Reviewed 7 Jul 2011

The pool area is really nice, although the people working in the bar area could have been friendlier. I brought my own water to the bar b/c I am breastfeeding and didn't want to buy any alcoholic drinks. They made me pour it out. We couldn't even bring our baby food to the pool area b/c they wanted us to buy all our food and drinks from the bar. This just made our stay so much more inconvenient.

“Awesome Vacation!”

Reviewed 1 Jun 2011

The Hakuna Matata was an excellent condo. We absolutely loved our stay there so much we stayed an extra night! The decor in the house is so beautiful. The condo is so spacious and inviting. The only complaint that I have is that our vacation went by too fast.
