“Best winter getaway ever”

Reviewed 17 Mar 2015

Case Caribena is an amazing, spacious, spotless home in a fantastic location with wonderfully thoughtful staff. We were a group of 12 adults and thouroughly enjoyed everything the Casa has to offer. Pricci, Lily and the staff kept the house, pools and grounds in perfect condition. Lilly's cooking can't be beat for a relaxing, delicious meal. We ate out a few times, but Lily's food was the best. Wifi worked well for us. A few of us signed up for international calling with our cell providers and it worked as needed without much issue. Our family is already trying to figure out when we can return! The owner, Lisa, is extremely responsive and helpful, recommending restaurant and fishing excursion companies that were great. Plenty to do in close proximity. Ceynote's everywhere, ruins, shopping, restaurants, grocery for stocking up within 10 minutes of the house.

“Better than we could have imagined”

Reviewed 22 Jan 2014

We just got back from a weeks stay at the lovely Casa Caribena. My husband and I booked the house for 1 week with 10 other people. All adults, a mix of couples and singles. I really cant say enough good things about the staff of Casa Caribena and the house itself. The location is beautiful, the views from every balcony in the house, the food!! Believe the hype, it was fantastic. The staff are all so sweet and helpful. The house was always clean, very spacious. You will have trouble deciding where to hang out, as there are so many wonderful spots around the house. The roof top was a favorite of mine. I did yoga up there every morning and it was a quiet heaven. The beach is a bit rocky as others have indicated, but it was beautiful and clean nevertheless (not a negative at all). The sand is soft and nice, but just when you get out to the water it's a bit rocky. Many days we took the kayaks out and snorkeled from there. We saw tons of wildlife right from the beach. The Tulum Ruins and shops are a quick cab ride away. I felt completely safe the entire time. I would go back in a heartbeat! I will say, the electricity in our room went out in the middle of the night one night. I told Lily, and received a call from Lisa (the homeowner) within an hour, saying they were working on it and she was so sorry. It didn't cause us any problems at all and it I was actually nice to be able to see how accommodating and quick they were to fix a "problem" if you even want to call it that :) There's also a nice restaurant and Cenote a few houses down that you can walk to. Blue Sky (the restaurant) had great food, drinks and staff. Casa Caribena is truly such a gem! Heaven on earth!

“Very Clean and maintained well and awesome food!”

My wife and I recently stayed at Casa Caribena with a group of friends. The accommodation were terrific. We enjoyed all comforts of home which included the wifi. Along with all the day trips around the area we also enjoyed a day of Ocean Kayaking right out the front door inside the barrier reef which is calm water. This is a Go-Pro moment. Of course what I liked the best was the gourmet style cooking which is available. The meals were sooo good. Mmmm what a great surprise. We really enjoyed our stay.

“the children talk about home at all”

Reviewed 8 Aug 2013

for the very time during our holidays abroad, the children didn't talk about home at all. Usually they do by the end of the holiday but they enjoyed Casa Caribena so much, they even wanted to stay longer! Especially since one night Lilly woke us up to tell a turtle was laying its eggs right in fromt of the house between the long chair and the small palm tree. We were so lucky to see this and our youngest son wanted to stay until the little turtles come out. We have 4 children aged between 13 and 19 and rented Casa Carbena for one week in july after having toured hrough Mexico for 2 weeks. Everyone could relax and the house was super! The house is so big we didn't know where the children were hanging out; one was reading on the roof top terrace, one was in the swimming pool, one was gaming in the hamac...and my husband and I had all the rest we looked for. Although we had planned some excursions, no one wanted to leave the house so we only visited the ruinas in Tulum and the Gran Cenote (which is really refreshing on a hot day). Lilly cooks superbly and the house and pool were very clean. This is very important to us as one of the children has cystic fibrosis and hygiene is extremely important. The children also went swimming every day in the bay and found the most beautiful big shells! For doing this you need snorkel equipment and the live jackets that are in the house. It was really a super week!!!

“Most enjoyable stay in Tulum, Mexico”

Reviewed 4 Jul 2013

As a frequent visitor to the Tulum area, I have had the chance to stay at many different places. Casa Caribena is by far the best I have had the pleasure of stay. The grounds are very warm and welcoming. From the private pool to the large back porch overlooking its own private beach, you will not be disappointed. Once inside the home you will be lost in the luxury of it all. Featuring three stories with 6 bedrooms, most featuring large individaul baths, 2 living areas, bar and dining fit for royalty. Our first night was started with dinner on the back porch and desert on the third floor roof top terrace as we watched the sunlight fade away from the Caribbean waves. The neighborhood features private security, several eateries and even it's own Cenote which connects directly to the ocean by a underground flooded cave. Located only a few minutes north of Tulum, you will always be able to enjoy the night life and activities Tulum has to offer. The staff were very pleasant and made sure we had all we needed an then some. The meals the staff prepared were outstanding. The house was kept spotless during our entire stay. Lilly even made sure we had pie shells for the pies we baked since we could not find them in town. She is certainly the best host I have ever seen or heard of. I highly recommend Casa Caribena to any large group that enjoys luxury with privacy but yet close to it all. You just can't go wrong with this house.

“Stay as long as you can!”

Reviewed 18 Mar 2013

We just got back from an amazing week-long trip at Casa Caribena. Believe the hype: house is enormous and beautifully maintained, Lily's cooking is incredible and the facilities are more than you need. We were a group of six adults and five kids and it was perfectly set up for our large group (we had three empty bedrooms to spare!). Great for families and large groups as there is tons of common space to hang out together, plus large guest rooms and private bathrooms for everyone. Upstairs and downstairs kitchen make it easy for middle-of-the-night milk runs for kids. Tip: if you are traveling with small children who still nap, invest in a high-end monitor as the walls in the Casa are thick and the signal doesn't travel, which does limit how far you can venture from your kids during nap time. The beach is more rocky/tide-pooly than sandy, but the older kids loved it for sea creature exploration and shell collecting. There is plenty of sand between the house and the tidepools for digging monster holes and sand castles; it's just not a feet-friendly wadeable sandy beach. Can't recommend enough and next time we're going for two weeks!

“as close to perfect as possible”

Reviewed 13 Mar 2013

just returned from a week-long stay at casa caribena, total of 10 close friends celebrating birthdays and retirements. home is simply splendid, as clearly shown in the photos. food was as spectacular as the home and setting, with lily and everyone else just as lovely and talented as could be. home was large enough for all of us to enjoy comfortably without bumping into each other, yet easily cozy and intimate, whenever we wanted. close to tulum beaches, cenotes, and all necessities. amazing value for the $. strongly advise renting a car and exploring the area. only very insignificant note is the intermittent internet; a bit persnickety, tho true throughout the region, and not specific to this home. p.s. - we didn't go for the internet!!

“Total Relaxation!”

Reviewed 15 Feb 2013

My husband and I are well traveled and have enjoyed our many previous trips to the Yucatan. We stayed at Casa Caribena for a week in February and celebrated my birthday. We have two rentals of our own on Vrbo and understand the effort, time and care it takes to offer a vacation rental to others. Some wonderful aspects to our stay: The house is immaculately clean! And, I mean I could not find any dirt, nor dust, anywhere! Not even on the outdoor fixtures. You can tell it is well cared for and loved by Lily, the caretaker, & family. The view is to die for! My husband had to work each day of our vacation, but what a wonderful venue in which to work. The office view on the second floor is what dreams are made of! The rooftop deck was perfect for the best views of both the ocean and the palms behind the house. Speaking of which, the gardens on the grounds are gorgeous and again, well-maintained. The night-sky blanketed you when viewing from the rooftop. We are adventurers and were not in the house for long during the daytime hours. The street is private and security approves and watches everyone's arrival on the street. Although we did not partake, a cenote is less than a quarter mile down the road. We kayaked and tried to snorkel from our beach. We walked the beach nearly every day. Lily made dinner our first night - Chile Rellenos with Chicken. It's our favorite dish and we have never had anything close to dish she prepared! Our towels were changed daily and dishes done. If I could change anything it would be the lack of coral when entering the water from the beach. The coral gives it the variegated hues of blue, but I prefer the soft sand beneath my feet. Bring your water shoes :) We drove to Tulum near in the biosphere a few days of the week to enjoy the beach private beach or 50 pesos. It was gorg! Don't miss ana Y Jose on the beach in Tulum. Great food and atmosphere. Oscar & Lalos is a wonderful destination, as well. Enjoy!

“Amazing Villa, Amazing Food, Amazing Location!!”

Reviewed 21 Jan 2013

We just got back from Casa Caribena and we can't wait to go back! Everything about the villa was perfect. The view is spectacular and the food was delicious. I had no idea how close the villa is to the water; just imagine falling asleep to the sound of the waves every night and waking up the fresh ocean air. The men in our group went spear fishing every day and Lily was nice enough to make ceviche and fish tacos with their fresh caught fish. While snorkeling, we saw eels, many tropical fish, nurse sharks, sand sharks, and a few sting rays. It was so nice to have kayaks accessible so we could explore the area. The location is great, only about 10 minutes away from Tulum and a 5 minute walk from Casa Cenote. The staff was very helpful and we cannot wait to go back next year!!

“Come for the Beach, stay for the cook”

Reviewed 5 Dec 2012

Had a wonderful time. Villa is well set up, stocked with everything you need besides food and drinks, they have bottled water jugs in case you forget to bring your own. Super clean. Plenty of decks and lounge areas for sea viewing. Bay is great for swimming and snorkeling. Beach is quiet. Good sand. Pools are smallish but typical for the area. The upstairs one os more of a hotub, but is very useful to sit in while you watch for manta rays in the bay. Lily and her staff are the Jewels. She is an awesome cook, she will make whatever you want. Recommend looking up dishes before you go if you don't have favorites. I love real Chile Rellenos(not the americanized version of a halved sweet pepper covered in 2" of cheese) and Lily does them perfectly. She will make you the standard favorites but if you like good traditional mexican food you are in a for a treat. The staff are super friendly and helpful. My Spanish is good so that helped alot but their english is good enough for the necessities. Lisa(owner) is also very helpful and responds super quickly to emails. $5 to have someone wash and fold your laundry is criminally cheap so don't listen to a few others who complained about that. Where else can you find a loving babysitter for $5 an hour?? Also the tipping suggestions are totally fair if you think about it. Even though there is plenty of relxing space, were I to rent half or the whole villa, I would want to get along well with my fellow "roomies". It's different than hotel life. Recommend some insect repellent if you are like us and like to sleep with doors open and with a/c off, so we got a bit bitten at night. Screen are good but no-seeums are around.
