“A piece of paradise”

Reviewed 13 Jul 2015

Casa Mirage is the perfect place to enjoy the real beauty of Playa Grande! Your own private beach is just a few steps from the villa, and the ocean views are spectacular! The setting is so relaxing and you will never want to leave. Thank you for sharing this wonderful home with our group, We hope to return one day and experience the Pura Vida of Costa Rica again!

“Paradise found”

Wonderful house, fabulous location, not a single thing to say even remotely disappointing ! The staff was great, kitchen had everything we needed for the family . Pools were kept clean daily, Kimberly was a great cook !

“Great House & Atmosphere”

Reviewed 25 Apr 2015

Stayed here with a group of friends from work and had a great time. The house is perfectly set on the beach with a great lay out. Each room was private and you could hear the waves from the top two rooms. The kitchen and outdoor seating were relaxing and perfect for the group. Great place to stay and will be back again for sure! Thank you!

“AMAZING Beach Front House!”

Reviewed 22 Feb 2015

All I can say are wonderful things about this house! All of us absolutely LOVED it! Booking service was easy. The house was ready and in perfect conditions when we arrived. It accommodated all of us perfectly! Everybody had a separate room, which was air-conditioned and very comfortable. Kimberly, the cook, was amazing! She was so nice to us and her cooking was spectacular! The first night she made us "Arroz con Mariscos" (Rice with Seafood) which was the best I have ever had. The property is beautiful, right in front of the ocean! Very comfortable house for large groups. The location is PERFECT. Just steps away from the ocean and away from all the crowds. It is located almost at the end of Playa Grande which is great because you have a little more privacy... and not a lot of people come by... very calm and relaxing. You have small grocery stores and a surf shop very close by. What I liked best was the location and Kimberly's Service! We are definitely coming back!

“Beach Front Rental”

Reviewed 1 Aug 2014

Playa Grande is a beautiful beach and has a great surf. Casa Mirage is a great loaction on the beach a large rental with alot of space. Was perfect for our extended family including 2 young children. Everyone had privacy of their own rooms but enjoyed the outside area most of the time. The surf was rough at times with a stong rip current, so be safe and know your limits. The pools were fun for the kids. We hired a cook for our evening meals and it was good food and nice to have the cooking and cleaning done for the 9 of us. Booked tours and ground transporation from Yellowfin tours and it was great Dervin was the best. The home needs some updates and is older but we would return here as we loved the location.

“Lovely home right on the beach - possibly the most relaxing week of my life.”

Reviewed 4 Jul 2014

The location/setting of Casa Mirage is perfect. The beach is public but feels private - it is quiet and with very few other people on the beach. The water is warm and the waves are fun for surfers and boogie boards. We enjoyed just sitting at the house on the rocking chairs on the back porch and just looking out at the beach, as well as playing in the ocean. It felt quiet, safe, peaceful, relaxing and fun. The house is nice and well appointed. Our group included 12 people, ages 17 - 84. The 5-bedroom home would probably be better suited to 10 people, we had 2 teenagers sleeping in trundles in the upstairs between the 2 bedrooms. It worked out just fine for us. The caretakers were helpful and accommodating. There is lots to do in the surrounding area. We took a canoe trip with Jonathon, a naturalist - you can find him at the Tortuga Hotel down the road. He paddled our 2 80+ year-old ladies and they had a great time, we were able to see lots of wildlife including howler monkeys. We drove to a National Park - Vieja De La Rincon, did a 2-hr hike to a beautiful waterfall through jungle (without the 80-year-old). Watched World Cup soccer at a fun local bar -- a highlight of the trip. We took a sunset sailing trip with snorkeling that was beautiful and fun. Everyone in the group agreed that we would like to come back and to stay in the exact same house. Loved it!!

“Amazing Location - Disappointing House”

Reviewed 8 Apr 2014

This house sits literally steps from a pristine and protected beach that is miles long, and sparsely populated. We felt very safe during our stay. The water was a wonderful temperature. The patio area and BBQ got a lot of use while we were there! We would definitely return to this beach, but probably not to this house unless they did a lot of work here... For the cost, we were very disappointed in the house. Be warned: it is missing all the basics for cooking, such as salt, pepper, napkins, coffee, sugar, creamer, ice and paper towels. They supplied one tiny soap per bathroom. This house is terribly outdated - nearly everything there is worn out and should be replaced. The sheets are old and (blood?)stained. The towels are old and bleach stained. Sheets/towels may or may not be changed when they say they will. We understood that we would have access to a washer and dryer, but we didn't. Laundry service for all their properties are done at this house while you vacation there - a little odd. None of the windows in the bedrooms or bathrooms open. There are no air ventilation systems in the bathrooms. Two of the air conditioners only worked a little over half the time, and at 95 degrees, it was an issue. Our toilet seat was broken 9 of the 11 nights we stayed there. One room was advertized as having it's own kitchen, but that kitchen was relatively useless. No coffee maker, etc.) That room felt more like a cave then a vacation getaway. The couple that took it moved into a different room after 3 nights. All of the mattresses were either rock hard, or you could feel the springs sticking through. The refrigerator is very small and doesn't get very cold. (Ex: We had to buy a knife to be able to cook, as the ones there were in such poor condition, as are the pots and pans.) There is no dishwasher. All the doors were difficult to open, close and unlock. I wish my review could be more favorable, because this area is outstanding, but the house left a lot to be desired.

Response from the owner Hi Suzzette thank you for the feedback. It was both informative and troubling to hear your experience. We recently remodeled the home in June 2013, our online photos accurately reflect Casa Mirage's recent updated changes. Some furniture was custom built from local hardwoods, cushions reupholstered with material brought from the US, new aluminum windows installed, etc.. Exterior renovations, included creating an impressive upper veranda view replacing a solid wall with stainless steel bars. Our rental contract states we provide dish soap, toilet paper, bath soap and trash bags, as well as laundry service at $5 a load. Dishwasher is not checked on the list of amenities. Per the room having a kitchen, I apologize for the confusion I believed I had removed this amenity from all the advertised websites and did locate one that still had it listed. Yes, with a/c's in all rooms a decision was made to keep windows sealed for efficiency purposes, there are fans to circulate air. Every effort is made to ensure the home is in working order. Your request to fix the toilet seat was completed the following day of receiving your request. If we had been notified of problematic air conditioners, doors, etc.. our maintenance man would have been able to repair them. We are one of the only vacation homes that offer the service of a full time on-site repair man. We pride ourselves on cleanliness. The rental offers housecleaning every 3rd day, if you thought a day was missed a quick phone call to our property manager would have resolved the confusion. Our sheets and towels are consistently changed through the year, I agree stained ones should never be put out for use. Prior to your arrival, no guests had expressed upset about the kitchen utensils/pots/pans, towels, a/c, doors, mattresses, etc. Upon the next vacancy I can assure you a thorough inspection will occur. I only wish Marianela had been contacted regarding the issues addressed as solutions would have ensued, giving us the opportunity to provide you with a pleasant stay.

“This was a perfect vacation for our family!”

Reviewed 12 Mar 2014

We just got back from Costa Rica and were sad to leave. This house was amazing. It's a great layout and in a perfect location. Kimberly was awesome and one of the best cooks ever! The full time security made us feel safe (especially traveling with a 2 and 4 year old) Thanks for living up to our expectations - we would absolutely recommend this property and Playa Grande.

“Perfect location, great vacation home!”

Just completed an 8 day stay at Casa Mirage, with my family (wife and 3 kids). The house is beautiful, and could not be in a better spot! Being able to walk out the back door, and take 15 steps to the beach, was absolutely ideal. The groundskeepers were there everyday, to clean up leaves, and make sure the property was pristine, and they even brought my kids fresh coconuts to drink while they played in the pool. I really have no complaints about this rental, and am absolutely hoping to stay there again.

“Couldn't have been any better!!!”

Reviewed 2 Jul 2013

The house was exactly as the photos showed. We loved every minute of our stay. pros: The beach was perfect for every level of surfing, boogy boarding or just splashing about. Frijoles Locos was close enough to walk to and had everything we needed to rent for the week of surfing. The house had plenty of room for our 9 guests(aged 11 to 73). The in-room air conditioning was wonderful after a long day at the beach. Kimberley and Wendy cooked all but one of our meals and it was worth every penny!!! The hammocks and rocking chairs were used by all:-) cons: We really only had one "negative" of the hammocks needs replacing, it hung way too low.
