We had a fantastic time with my teenage sons and family friends and their teenagers. It was a total escape. The family who took care is us was beautiful, the location brilliant. You pop from the outdoor lounge to the pool and out to the ocean for a snorkel or a kayak. Plenty to do for the couch potatoe and active boys!
“Experience a holiday without all the modern day trappings”
Sanddollar's short distance from Port Vila gives it, its own unique identity. If required public transport or a hire car can be made available - we recommend this especially if visiting the main markets in Port Vila which is a must! The array of fresh produce is a culinary and visual delight. Experience tropical tastes and create your own delicious meals back at Sanddollar in their Haus Wind. What better way to unwind with spectacular views, a bottle of wine and sensational sunsets. Sleep in comfortable traditional fares - beautiful interiors using anne and Gregs' creative talents to design and manufacture furnishings using local craftmen and materials. Swim in the pool or ocean,go kyaking or make use of neighbouring commercially accredited scuba diving facilities. Everything is here for all the family to simply relax and become part of the local environment. If inclined use that hire car to explore the island. Great photo opportunities and a splendid way to see how island life unfolds - you will soon understand why the people of Vanuatu are among the happiest in the world. Experience a holiday without all the modern day trappings Bliss!
We have been twice to Sand dollar, Vanuatu and can highly recommend it as a fantastic location for a relaxing self catered holiday. The whares are amazing with big beds and high quality bedding. The kitchen/ living whare has everything you need to cook and entertain. Straight off the premises you can kayak or snorkel in the clear topical water watching the dolphins or swimming amongst the coral. Both kayaks and snorkel gear are there for use. The swimming pools are a great way to relax and freshen off at the end of the day. With a hired car you are close enough to Port Vila to pop in for a restaurant or shopping and Sand Dollar is a great base to see the rest of the island. The local family who are on site should you need anything are friendly and hospitable without being intrusive. We love it and will be going back again.
“Friendly staff and very practical homely feel”
We have stayed at Sand Dollar twice and on both occasions had a wonderful time. Staff are very polite, efficient and friendly and the villas are always spotless, the pool clean and the grounds very well maintained.
“Absolute relaxation in a tropical Paradise”
We have been to Sanddollar 3 times with friends and have had a fantastic time each time. The fact that it is 30 minutes out of Vila is a big plus as the town is handy but not too close. The accomodation is very spacious with rooms that look out on the ocean. The dining/lounge area is open , perfect for the climate. Warm nights eating, sipping cocktails and talking and laughing - perfect. During the day there is the choice of just relaxing around the pool reading or taking advantage of the many activities available. Horse riding, buggy treks, snorkelling, kayaking and swimming are just some of the things you can do.Would we return..you bet
“Relax and unwind”
If you are looking for somewhere to relax and unwind, this is it. Although it is 25mins out of Port Vila, once you're there its worth it. We had organsied a car to hire which was at the airport waiting for us. Before going to Sanddollar, we stopped at the local supermarket to get supplies for our stay. Because of the French influence in Vanuatu, there is great bread, cheese, meats and wine in the supermarket. The local fruit and vegetable markets are worth visiting for supplies, located in Port Vila itself. We made a few trips into Port Vila during our stay, to try the local retaurants. There is quite a selection to choose from. However, mostly we just wanted to stay at Sanddollar, relax, read, swim, kayak, drink and eat! We had some great evenings watching the sun go down, martini in hand. The grounds are large and well maintained. The staff who look after the property were friendly and helpful. We really enjoyed our stay. Private, laid back and idyllic are the words that come to mind.
“Relaxation and stimulating conversation.”
Sandollar has a friendly, down-to-earth feel and a beautiful location. The accommodation is comfortable and clean with a natural, island atmosphere. Greg is a great host.
We stayed here for a week in October and loved every minute of it. If you are looking for something other than touristy accommodation, then this is the palce to look for. The property was very well set up before we arrived and we were welcomed in true Vanuatu style. The fares are beautifully appointed and have a wonderful tropical feel with semi outdoor showers. The view is to die for and the pool was perfect for just relaxing. We particularly enjoyed the fact we could cater for ourselves and enjoyed visiting the local supermarket - if we could tear ourselves away from the pool! It is about a 20 minute drive though so a car is definitely needed! The owners, who have a vast knowledge of all things local, went out of their way to make sure we had an outstanding weeks holiday. We couldnt recommend it highly enough.
“We had a magical relaxing week on three different occasions.”
The staff at Sand Dollar were attentive but discreet. They kept the living area and the bed/bathrooms tidy as well as attending to the pool and the grounds. They were ready to talk and help us if we needed information but did not intrude on our privacy in any way. The accomodation was delightful; the beds were comfortable and the bed/bathrooms airy and well supplied with clean towels and mosquito net. The living area which looked out at the swimming pool had places to lounge, to play cards and board games or just to gaze out at the sea. I also appreciated the kitchen which was stocked with all the utensils and dishes we needed to cook lots of the delicious organic beef and fresh vegetable available from Port Vila. We particularly liked the location, away from the town, private and quiet, but within easy reach in a hired car or bus. The snorkelling was fantastic and my husband enjoyed some wonderful dives with a local dive operator. I experienced a great feeling of freedom on holiday at Sand Dollar. We went three times in 16 months and plan to return some time in the future.
We hired sanddollar for my mother's birthday.. 3 families, lots of kids, travelled from New Zealand. It was perfect! A totally memorable experience for us all. The houses were very comfortable, the gardens beautiful, the fish and coral right at our doorstep were so wonderful and the family who looked after us were so kind and generous. We dream about going back one day.
Response from the owner Hi Louise, we appreciate your review. We too have been up with a couple of families, two families of five with two of the older boys sleeping on the large couches ( actually king single beds fitted into the couch frames designed by Anne). We thoroughly enjoyed our family holiday. Even the large dinning table was big enough for all of us for our 'long Vanuatuan dinners' Greg Watt
