“Comfortable & Laid Back”

Reviewed 25 Mar 2014

We stayed in #32 at the Retreat in Rum Point for 6 nights from March 16 - 22, 2014 and enjoyed it a great deal. There were four of us: my wife and I and two daughters, aged 24 & 20. The condo was very comfortable and had everything we needed and expected. The service at the Retreat was also very good. The location is just a few steps from the beach, and you can view the ocean from the porch. The location at Rum Point is the best on the island, in my opinion, and we traveled around the entire island. It is very laid back & relaxed, quiet, and not very touristy. If you are looking to get away from the crowd at seven mile beach, this is the place. The snorkeling right off the beach at Rum Point is fantastic and there are lots of different spots, whether you are drift snorkeling or power snorkeling out toward the reef where the coral gardens are located. There is a nice small beach located at the Retreat and right next store at the Wreck bar & grill and public beach. The beaches are small and not nearly as wide open compared to seven mile beach, but there is plenty of room to lounge. I like to jog early in the morning, and I could not jog on the beach due to the rocks, but I was able to easily jog on the roads outside the retreat, right next to the ocean. I would recommend this condo, the Retreat and this location to anyone.

“Excellent stay! Peaceful and relaxing.”

We stayed at The Retreat Rum Point Condo #32 for a week in November 2013. The condo was perfect! Clean, big and excellent location...steps from the private beach, but also access to the public beach, restaurant and Red Sail Sports for signing up for activities. The owner Mr. Monge answered all the questions we had and was extremely helpful. We arrived on a Sunday and were told that no grocery stores would be open. The condo manager, Gigi, was kind enough to allow the groceries to be delivered to the condo before we arrived. Grand Cayman Island is beautiful and the people are very kind. The customer service anywhere we went- grocery stores, restaurants, dive shops...etc., was excellent. We arranged trips with Red Sail Sports- sting rays on a catamaran(highly recommend), jet skiing, and diving on the USS Kitiwake, and the staff were incredible. We also did a couple of dives with Ocean Frontiers and were extremely, extremely impressed. The only con to the trip was that our stay was not long enough!

“Relaxing Retreat”

Reviewed 3 Feb 2014

I absolutely loved staying at the Retreat at Rum Point! The condo was beautifully decorated and so comfortable. The view from the master bedroom is amazing to wake up to each morning! The beach is just steps away with no crowds and the perfect place to go watch the sunset each night! I would definitely go back!!!

“Perfect”

All I can say about our stay at the retreat at rum point #32 is that it was awesome. This condo was perfect. Mr. Monge thought of everythig to make your stay care free. We were waiting for the curve ball but it never came. The kitchen was fully stocked with cook ware. Nice aappliance's. 2 1/2 baths.2 Bedrooms. The master has a nice view of the water. This area of the island is quiet. No music/partying. A family place. If your looking for the cleanest place you've ever stayed in. This is the place. ev

“Best place on the Grand Cayman.”

This condo is much nicer than the picture. It's a five star unit. We have stay in other condo in the Caribbean and this is by far far the best. We have no negative things to say about this unit I can not express how nice it is. It met our very need and we hated to leave and defiantly will stay here again. RumPointpoint is by far h best place to stay on the island. You have all you need here great snorkeling and great food even you can sign up at to o to Stringray city here and you leave from Rum Point. Stringray City was so much fun. The beach at Rum Point is the best Beach by far on th Island. It's relaxing and so quiet but yet you have so much to do. We left from Rum Point to go on the bioluminescence tour by kayak it was a highlight. We didn't even need to leave Rum Point at all,it's all we needed. Thank you Wayne for allowing us to stay at the best place on Geand Cayman. You really don't need to look any further than unit #32 at the Retreat to find the best vacation possible. Trust me you won't find another place that compares. We drove around the island and found nothing that compared to Rum Point or the retreat. The retreat is clean and very beautiful decor sitting on the best place on the island.

“Home away From Home”

Reviewed 28 Mar 2013

#32 is an immaculate,2 bedroom(1 queen, 1 with 2-twins) 2.5 bath condo with full kitchen, central ac, washer/dryer. This condo has all the comforts of home with a wonderful sea view, a spacious feel and very nice furnishings. On the ground level are Weber grills and an outside shower. A half bath found just across the hall from the entry door is quite handy. The bedrooms had en suite bathrooms with full tub/shower. The bedding is fresh with beach themed quilts and quiet ceiling fans overhead. An inflatable queen bed is also available. The kitchen is very efficient with everything you could need. The open kitchen flows into the dining/living areas where a dining table would easily seat 6-8. The living area offers all the comforts of home with a large TV, WiFi, CD player, DVD player, and comfortable seating. Another ceiling fan is available to circulate those tropical breezes if you should choose to turn off the a/c and open up the windows and doors. We were comfortable on the screened in lanai, looking out over the beach watching the sun setting beyond the sea. It is easily located following the scenic drive along the road that leads to Rum Point. There are also bicycles and kayaks to reserve through the managers. The owner is wonderful to deal with and the management staff at The Retreat was wonderfully promptly answering any questions we might have before and during our visit. It is a welcoming space that draws one in to relax and feel right at home. Even though it had been a full year since we had visited condo #32, it could have been just yesterday. There were no signs of deterioration, indicating the outstanding quality of furnishings and construction but also the diligence of the management and housekeeping staff. It is a lovely space; light, airy and embracing to those looking for a peaceful and relaxing respite from the busy day-to-day on this beautiful island paradise.

“peaceful and relaxing”

Everything was as it was described! The condo was clean, great decor, well equipped kitchen, very comfortable. The view in the morning from the screened porch was great-looking out at the ocean. The beach was clean, great swimming and snorkeling right off the beach and the sunsets cannot be beat. Management was always helpful directing us to many things to see and do. Water sports are available next door as well as dining and there is a great restaurant just a mile away.

“Best sunsets at Retreat at Rum Point”

Reviewed 3 Jan 2013

This was our second time staying in the Rum Point area. Retreat #32 was just perfect for us. We had the most beautiful view of the sun setting every night from our lanai or sitting at the beach. Wayne's condo was just the perfect size for our family of four (including 2 teenage girls). The condo was stocked with plenty of dishes, pots and pans, linens, sunscreen, snorkel gear etc., and everything was in excellent condition. The condo was exceptionally clean and checking in was a breeze. We were never bothered by anyone, and if we did need something, the office staff was great! We thought the price point for what we got and where we stayed was a good deal, and would recommend to anyone to stay at this facility/condo. We spent alot of time at Rum Point beach, which is right next door. We had fun whether snorkeling, shelling, or just sitting at a table enjoying lunch and a pina coloada! Our best day trip was Starfish Point, which was right up the road a bit. We had never seen live starfish, and it was a beautiful area to visit and Sprit of the West, where we went horseback riding in the ocean! This is the best place to horseback ride for sure. The Queen Elizabeth Botanical Garden was also very nice, although we only saw one blue iguana, but the flowers and foliage were so beautiful! We also visited the beach at South Sound and spent an enjoyable afternoon there, but we think Rum Point is the perfect beach spot! It has everything; food, liquor, water sports, shopping and it was right next door to the Retreat, and very family friendly! I think to date, this is the best property we've stayed at, and this was our 4th trip to Grand Cayman. We look forward to returning to The Retreat at Rum Point and staying in Wayne's condo again.

“A true paradise!”

When can I go back to paradise?! This is the ultimate tropical, beach vacation destination. I could not have loved this location more - the condo, the beach, the water, the perfect weather and low-key atmosphere. I arrived in Grand Cayman a wound-up, stressed-out and chilly Minnesotan (February in the Twin Cities is cold!) and left a relaxed, snorkeling-loving (first time!) Rum Point fan. We spent our days soaking up rays, reading books, going for dips in the pool, snorkeling in the beautiful water and exploring the charming island. We loved the homey feeling of the condo and spent most evenings enjoying our dinner on the deck, watching the amazing sunsets. It's clear the owners take great pride in their condo and ensure it's always in tip-top condition. Hotels are okay for a night or two, but for a true, relaxing vacation, having a place of your own that is spacious, clean, beautiful and safe, is the way to go. I cannot say enough wonderful things about the Retreat at Rum Point! Go to paradise - you will love it!

“Best family vacation ever!”

Reviewed 9 Feb 2012

Everything about this condo unit was great. We had a view from our porch of the ocean which was perfect to enjoy our morning coffee, eat a meal or enjoy a glass of wine while gazing at the lights from the pier at night while listening to the waves on the beach. This was our first time traveling abroad with our teenagers and the condo had all of the comforts of home: air conditioning, wi-fi, dishwasher, flat screen tv with satellite receiver and washer/ dryer. We felt safe and relaxed during our stay and if we needed anything or had a question, the on-site staff were there for us. The property had a beautiful private beach which was great for learning to snorkel and had great access to deeper waters when we felt comfortable. We saw beautiful fish and even a sea turtle right off of our point and remember to bring an underwater camera - we have great pictures! The property also had a pool to relax in which was secluded and quiet. Next door to the property is a facility called "The Rec Bar" which isn't just a bar- it has a sand volleyball court, beautiful beach area, snack bar with ice cream, and gift shop. In the evenings it turns into a nice restaurant right next to the beach . There is a long pier that jutts out from the beach area which is where one can get on boats for day trips to Stingray City ( freakiest and coolest thing we have ever done!) and snorkel trips. At night the pier is lit up with lights and is a very romantic place. We will be staying in this condo again and could not recommend it more- it's was great for our family trip but would also be great for a couples trip. I know of other people who have visited the Cayman Islands and have stayed on 7 mile beach area - they have taken a day trip to the Rum Point area and all say it is much more beautiful there.
