“utter relaxation”

Reviewed 1 May 2014

My family of 5 (3 sons aged 9, 13, 15) spent a week at Casa Dena over Easter. The house is very comfortable and well appointed. The caretakers are lovely and fabulous cooks. Steve's flexibility to rent us only 2 bedrooms was really appreciated. The views are fantastic from the back of the house as well as the roof. We were aware that the beach directly in front of the house was not swimmable, so the boys climbed the rocks looking for sea life and iguanas when we were at home, and they swam at other points down the beach. Very secluded and private home which is what we like. Could do with a couple more comfy lounge chairs and/or pillows for outside, but all in all exactly what we needed.

“Fantastic location, beautiful home, excellent caretakers!”

Reviewed 1 Apr 2014

We arrived as an extended family of 8 to Casa Dena for spring break. I had my 80-year-old mother with us, who suffers limited mobility. We were blown away by the splendor of the place, the grand entry, the ocean within our reach! The rooms are perfect -- all have ocean views and enjoy those breezes. . .excellent accommodations for 8 people, though 10 would be pushing it. My teenagers had a great time, the location was spectacular - close to lots of eco-parks (we hit Xcaret - nice!), the Casa Cenote down the street (worth the small ticket for admission and snorkeling gear), Blue Sky and Casa Cenote restaurants, and day trips to the Tulum beaches (awesome) and akumal (go to Lol Ha for dinner!). Tulum has great shopping only minutes away. Finally, we were blown away by Daisy and armando, their cooking (we asked for dinner and breakfast -- should have asked for more!), and their gentle hospitality. Thank you for offering your home to us!

“Perfect R&R; Location”

Reviewed 9 Mar 2014

We spent a wonderful week celebrating our 2 birthdays with our wedding in between at Casa Dena. The house was a perfect fit for all 10 of us who made a vacation week of our time there. The location has all the comforts of home with the added bonus of gorgeous views - relaxing, private, and easily accessible for taxis if you don't rent a car. Armando and Daisy were onsite to tend to day-to-day upkeep, and both were great, but knowing some basic Spanish is recommended if you need to speak with them. Otherwise, we were always able to get a hold of Monica, property manager, via email to have her communicate anything with them. The owner, Steve, also answered every question and provided thorough info before we arrived. The wedding was wonderful and we took advantage of armando's chef skills for a delicious dinner that night. I have nothing but positive things to say about Casa Dena - Steve and Monica were very gracious and hospitable and made sure we had everything we needed; Armando and Daisy were warm and wonderful the whole week. We all loved our visit!

“a space in time”

Reviewed 29 Jan 2014

Casa Dena is large enough to host a group or family with ease. The kitchen is the hub and has three different eating places (one outdoors, two indoors), so our family spent a lot of time creating meals and cocktails! Armando and Daisy were incredibly helpful and non intrusive. Do have them make you a traditional meal - might be the best you will ever have. Still dreaming of the lime tortilla soup. Also I highly recommend a walk to the rustic and very cool outdoor bar for the ceviche - beyond expectations. This is a fine place to relax, reflect and step away from reality. Steve was very professional, easy to deal with, and readily available. My only note would be the lighting for the evening. We moved the bedroom lamps to the kitchen for ambient light. Strong recommendation overall.

“Paradise on a beach”

Reviewed 24 Jan 2014

Casa Dena is an outstanding property. The best thing about it is its premier location on a beautiful seascape, where you can walk north or south for miles. The area is prime for birdwatching, coralling, shelling, and photography. I cannot tell you how many photos we all took of the stunning sunrises. Moonrises too, as we were there just after the full moon. The house is solidly built, attractive, and has every amenity, including more than adequate cooking and dining equipment, playing cards and games, hammock on the beach, and television and wifi. Daisy and armando are superb caretakers, and lovely people. Every bedroom has a view of the ocean and its own private bathroom. The rooftop is another excellent space to hang out, have cocktails, do yoga, sunbath or nap.

“Pure relaxation!”

We loved our stay at Casa Dena, the staff were extremely friendly, the view was stunning and the house was exactly as is seen in the photos, if not better. We really enjoyed our time and would love to go back one day!

“Two weeks of heaven”

Reviewed 26 Apr 2013

We are travelers who eschew the canned tourist experience and value a bit of cultural immersion. Even so, we enjoy creature comforts and expect value for money. Casa Dena provided the perfect home base for our ideal vacation. Tulum is just past the tourist resort build-up on Hwy 307 as you travel south from Cancun, so Casa Dena's location was perfect for our needs. We loved the proximity to snorkeling beaches, lagoons, and cenotes, including one 2 kms from the house. Both Tulum and Coba ruins were an easy drive from the house. We left early for an easy day trip to Chichen Itza, arriving prior to the endless procession of tourist buses that jam the site by 11 am. Casa Dena itself is just beautiful - as I looked through the front door for the first time I could see, hear and smell the surf beckoning just steps out the back door. The layout of the house provided comfort and privacy for each of us whenever we wanted it. Flow-through sea breezes 24-7 that had a soporific effect that had me waking refreshed and rising early each day. The sparkling pool is small but adequate for cooling off after a day of touristing. The kitchen is spacious and well-equipped. We gave the blender a hefty workout each day for smoothies and drinks, as well an electric juicer. A large grocery store with international specialty foods was 15 minutes away and met all of our needs. We supplemented that with trips to town for fresh fish and produce from roadside stands. The caretakers, Armando and Daisy, are the heart and soul of Casa Dena. Every day they cleaned and maintained the house, inside and out. For a modest charge, they cooked dinner twice for us and did laundry. They anticipated our needs and provided impeccable service graciously and unobtrusively. They understood English but were happy to let me practice Spanish. The only nuisances were a couple of unusually lengthy power outages (all night). And we loved the house dog, Sasha!

“Fabulous House!”

Reviewed 21 Mar 2013

We rented Casa Dena for a week long stay in early March, 2013. We were a group of six adults (three couples). The house exceeded our expectations! It was very roomy, with lots of areas to relax and enjoy the sunshine and warm weather. The roof deck is just amazing, from sunrise to sunset. The kitchen is large, open, and has the best Most days we stayed right at the house. It was perfect being right on the beach; everyone could take their time and enjoy their individual morning, and saunter out to the beach whenever they were ready. The beach right outside the house was all coral and you could not enter the water without reef runners (though you should not be standing on the coral anyways, as you can kill it). You could easily walk down the beach about five minutes and get in the water there, as well as enjoy the most wonderful ceviche at Chamico's right there on the beach. Daisy and armando, the house's caretakers, are awesome. Their gentle and friendly nature just resonates. The house was sparkling clean each day and we woke up to a freshly raked beach each morning thanks to armando. We had them cook for us one evening; it was delicious! Definitely take advantage of that and have them cook for you, you will not be sorry! Sasha is the premise's watch dog and welcome wagon. She is just the sweetest girl, we enjoyed having her around each day. She was happy, friendly, and kept on eye on things. Steve, the owner, is great; he is easy to correspond with via email and answered all our questions prior to booking and visiting. All in all, we absolutely enjoyed our time at Casa Dena, and would highly recommend it if you are visitng Tulum! Recommended for:Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

“Casa Dena - A paradise away from home”

Reviewed 25 Jan 2013

My family and I recently rented Casa Dena for a week, and it was phenomenal. The place itself was gorgeous - a beautiful home opening out onto the surf nestled within a natural oasis. The bedrooms and facilities were spacious, and it was the perfect environment for both hanging out and cooking with the family and using as a base to explore the beaches and coves around Tulum. The roof top, with it's couches and double bed was an amazing spot to stare at the stars. The hammocks on the beach provided a luxurious spot for reading and listening to the ocean. Armando and Daisy were wonderful -- attentive, responsive, yet completely non-intrusive. Steve (the owner) was also great to work with (via email). Renting from a stranger based on an internet ad, I obviously had questions about the integrity of the place -- is what was advertised, real. Steve's quick responses and candor -- evening noting that there might be some work going on at the adjacent property and addressing some minor noise issues-- calmed any concerns. In the end, rather than over-promise, Casa Dena was quite the opposite -- so much more beautiful than advertised.
