“Everything one needs to truly relax!”

Reviewed 15 Apr 2014

The house had everything we needed to truly relax and enjoy our vacation. We traveled with an almost 3 year-old and my mother. Was a little bummed with the house layout as we didn't realize that the third bedroom was not directly attached to the house, so you had to go outside and down steps to reach it, but if we were traveling with other couples (which we intend to go back and do) then the layout is perfect for ultimate privacy. My son loved all the beach and pool toys that they had there for us to use. The pool was awesome too. The views cannot be beat. So beautiful! The aC units in the bedrooms are quite noisy but we would run them for an hour or two before we intended to go to bed and then would turn off and just use the fan which we felt to be pleasant (we traveled in early april). Never did find the orchard on the property so can't attest to fresh fruit on the island and to walk into Isabel would be quite a walk so we always did the 2-3 minute drive which was simple. Great stay and easy communication with owners and property keepers that assisted us with check-in and check-out. Highly recommend!

Response from the owner Hi Marli, Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. Our apologies again for not making the third bedroom layout more clear. We have updated our sites to reflect that more clearly. We need to set up a fruit guide for the property and when particular fruits are in season. The thick vines covering the front fence are passion fruit, the larger tree at the end of the driveway is a lemon tree, lime tree is at the east side of the property, bananas and yucca are next to the pool, and the large trees by the road are breadfruit's.We will continue to plant and improve the villa for your return.Have a wonderful Spring! Best regards John and Karen

“Can't wait to go back!”

Reviewed 9 Apr 2014

We had the best vacation ever in Vieques! I'm the single Mother of 5 kids ages 14,13,12 and twins that are 8. We have traveled many places over the years, and we all agreed this was by far our favorite! We would usually have breakfast at the house, go for an early morning walk to town or the beach. Head back to the house for a swim in the pool. And then pack up the car to head to the beach for the afternoon. It was so nice to have many different options of chairs, coolers, umbrella, fins, masks, snorkels, sand buckets and toys!!! We would BBQ dinner and spend the evening in the pool, followed by playing board games or cards around the dining room table. My 13 year old daughter didn't come with us on this trip. She is deaf, blind and physically and mentally disabled. I usually need to scout out vacation spots before bringing her with to make sure it would be safe for her. I would not have a single hesitation bringing her back next time. As an ex lifeguard and nurse, I'm overly cautious especially around pools. Villa altamira's pool and pool area is totally safe with outside patio doors that lock as well as a locking gated area leading to the pool. It was also nice to have use of the pool toys! One of the things that still has me speechless about this trip was how entertained my kids were with just their surroundings! They were not "plugged in" to their various devices all week. They actually read books...made of paper not the electronic kind! The Wifi was there, but honestly the kids really didn't care about the virtual world, which is so not the norm in our house! To us it was like being at the cabin, but on a Carribean island...with a pool!!! Thank you for the best vacation ever! The Lang Family

Response from the owner Thank you Katharine, Reading your review made us very joyful. It would make us very happy to host your family again and this time include your daughter. We have shared similar experiences at Villa AltaMira. One of our favorite things about visiting Vieques was "unplugging" from the TV, business calls and all the distractions of daily life. It was with great hesitation that we installed Wi-Fi and the television. We understand that given today's busy lifestyle those amenities were in great demand. However, we greatly miss the nights we spent simply talking, reading, watching the stars and listening to the sounds of Vieques at night and most importantly spending quality time together. Thanks for bringing those memories back. Best regards, John and Karen

“A Great Vacation!”

Reviewed 14 Feb 2014

We had a wonderful time in Vieques and Villa altamira was everything that we thought it would be! The villa is cozy and well furnished with everything for a perfect vacation. The views from the villa were breathtaking and it was so convenient to everything ! We enjoyed snorkeling and thanks to John and Karen we had plenty of gear including coolers, beach chairs and towels. We especially enjoyed eating at Tavernas and Roy's . Annette and Dennis were very helpful especially when our flight was cancelled due to ice and snow. At least we had another couple of days in paradise. We will definitely be back ito Vieques and Villa altamira!

Response from the owner Hi Jenny Thanks so much!!!! We are so happy you enjoyed your vacation. Please stay with us again. Best John and Karen

“Tranquility and Beauty”

Reviewed 10 Dec 2013

This was our second trip to Villa altamira, and we couldn't believe the changes in the property. We loved it the first time, about 4 years ago, but the changes have made it so much better. The new pool deck and patio are great, much larger and gives us plenty of room, grandkids to grandparents. The house is perfect for families, it has a futon in one bedroom in addition to a queen bed. Everyone felt they had their own private space when they wanted it. Kitchen is stocked simply, however has everything we needed to prepare meals. Bedroom air conditioning was a great add-on, although most nights we chose to just use the ceiling fans. Dennis, the caretaker, is so helpful meeting us and getting us situated and answering all our questions. We booked through email, but John and Karen were wonderful to deal with, and available by phone if needed. Thank you John and Karen!! We will hopefully enjoy another family vacation, but won't wait another 4 years.

Response from the owner Please come again! We will continue to improve the villa! Best John and Karen

Our group, Culture Links along with the Boys and Girls Club of Boston had a great time at alta Mira. It is truly a wonderful spot . Thanks also for helping a bit on the price to make it affordable for our recent service trip. Part of our journey in learning the local culture is leadership, respect, perspective and gratitude. We are grateful for your contribution to our journey. The upgrades since our visit three years ago are really wonderful and bring the place to a new level. Having Brian as a resource was also very helpful. The home really shines now and is very comfortable and beautiful. We really appreciated the new gardens, the fountain, laundry as well as the snazzy paint job and upgraded kitchen and bath. Only real suggestion is a few simple items in the kitchen to make it fully stocked.

Response from the owner Thank you Richard. It was our honor and pleasure to host your group. We will add the items you suggest to the kitchen ASAP! Thank you for staying with us and we look forward to hosting your group again in the future! Best Regards John and Karen

“"The Place to stay on Vieques"”

Reviewed 20 Nov 2013

We have been to the island on several occasions and Villa altamira was by far our best experience overall. Dennis met us on arrival and we felt right at home. The Villa was truly spectacular. The views are simply stunning. The pictures on the web site don't do it justice. We did all that we could to just sit outdoors and enjoy the scenery. The older kids slept on the ground floor and had their privacy, The pool was beautiful and much needed on the island. The landscaping and property were perfect. We felt like we were nestled in our little tropical paradise. We plan on returning as soon as we can.

Response from the owner Hi Claire, Thanks for letting us know that you had a great stay! We haven't even been there recently to see some of the new tropical plantings...but our goal was to make it as private as possible. Hope you will be able to return, we love having repeat guests. Thanks again, Karen and John

“The perfect Paradise!!”

We have been to many Carribean islands, in many resorts, and this beats them all. The Villa is a wonderful home with unbelievable views. It's comfy and clean with plenty of space for everyone. The landscaping is just beautiful and the pool completes the experience. John and Karen are great to deal with, and Dennis was beyond hospitable when we arrived. He showed us around and made sure we had everything we needed. We can't wait to go back, and we'll probably make this a traditional yearly vacation. Thanks so much, John and Karen!!

Response from the owner We are very glad you had a wonderful vacation. Thank you as well for taking the time to leave feedback it is much appreciated. We will hopefully continue improving the Villa so we can share it with appreciative guests. Stay well and we look forward to hosting you again Best Regards John and Karen

“Seaside Heaven!”

What a great place! We had a marvelous time-- the wife and our kids-- She's actually the one who found the listing. It was a long day of travel to get there from Chicago, but no matter-- it was easy to settle in, and we appreciated the space very much-- the views are great, the air was lovely. We spent most of the week on the beach, and evenings mostly in rather than going out. The owners were easy to deal with and very friendly! We have many places to compare this to, and this is absolutely top notch. I hope we can go again soon!

Response from the owner Glad you had a good vacation. Look forward to hosting you again in the future! Best regards John and Karen

“Quiet Slice of Paradise”

Reviewed 31 May 2013

My husband and I stayed a week at altamira and had an amazing time. Altamira is huge with 3 different levels. It has a beautiful view, refreshing private pool and a ton of areas to lounge around. It is in a quiet neighborhood just outside of Isabel II and was a little tricky to get to (no street signs), but eventually we memorized the route. Everything about our trip went smoothly. When we landed, we called the car rental place and they came to pick us up. We texted Dennis at the same time and he met us at the car rental and showed us the way to the house. He gave us a good overview of the house and local area and had some tips on what to see and do while we were there. Altamira felt very safe. I know there is a lot of petty theft on the island, but we felt protected and secure at altamira. We made most of our meals at altamira and the kitchen had everything we needed. It was awesome that they had beach chairs, umbrellas, towels, a cooler and fins to borrow for trips to the beach. The patio upstairs was an awesome place to watch the stars at night. I think the only complaint we had was the heat and humidity, but that's going to be the same everywhere on the island. The property had ceiling fans in every room and air conditioners in all of the bedrooms, so that definitely helped. Overall, our trip to Vieques was pretty amazing!

Response from the owner Hi Amy Thank you so much. We hope you and your family can can return. We have completed the landscaping of the property and it is really spectacular. We have also added a dishwasher to the kitchen and awesome pool lighting. Next project is the ground floor renovation with new shower and bath! Stay well and let us know if we can assist in the future! John and Karen
