Description

Experience the laid back Captiva Island lifestyle with this classic 2 br, 2 full bath cottage, just 150 yards off the beach. Sleeping 6, its private, secluded, screened and large 26 x 14 foot heated pool (with Mermaid mosaic on the pool floor) is off the double French doors of the living room. The pool deck and outside leading to the secluded shower area is covered in paver stones. It's very easy to entertain children with no stairs to deal with between the house and pool.

Captiva Island can be driven to easily in one hour from Ft Myers Airport (RSW). Not so with North Captiva, a totally separate island where cars can't go - just passenger ferry service from Cape Coral. Do not confuse Captiva properties on this site with North Captiva properties intermingled.The Mermaid Home is among the most popular homes in the village, and not just because of it's location and charm. Maintenance and preparation for incoming guests is done by the owners to a level not usually possible by a management company. Our guest reviews speak to this quality.

It may be called a cottage, but this house is extremely updated and equipped and has much space for guest privacy and quiet areas. The private grounds are covered with many varieties of tropical palm trees and flowering plants, the beach is a short two minute walk and the docks of the bay are even closer. Captiva's village center is a five minute walk.

The living room has a leather queen sleeper and an entertainment center with 40" HDTV, DVD and a Onkyo stereo system with Bluetooth, 6-disc CD changer and Bose speakers inside, and KLH speakers poolside. Both bedrooms have HDTV. . Enjoy our eclectic CD music collection, and a large DVD movie selection is at the Captiva Library nearby. A built in desk supports a portable phone with with free US long distance calling, answering machine and free WIFI with high speed internet access..

Our kitchen is fully equipped from sharp knives to new Cuisinart cookware and espresso maker. The Weber gas grill is just outside the kitchen. A laundry room with washer and dryer is next to the kitchen. The master bedroom has a king size bed, cable remote HDTV and a new master bath with a sunken dual head shower area big enough for the enjoyment of two. A walk-in cedar lined closet will come in handy to store your travel items. Sliding glass doors open to a furnished screened porch running the full length of the house and leads to the pool.

The second bedroom, newly re-furnished in a plantation style, has twin beds and a cable remote HDTV, DVD and i-Pod docking station with speakers. It is ideal for another couple, the children and maybe even a nanny. The second bath has a fantastic, new Italian tile and glass block walk-in shower. All linens are provided. The very private and screened rear lanai with soft night lighting runs the length of the house from the master bedroom to the pool. Two separate seating areas are located on the lanai, one off the master bedroom, and one off the dining room & kitchen. The Gulf beach and famous Gulf sunsets are a two minute walk, and the sunrise at the docks on the bay is even closer.

Extra amenities include central air conditioning, ceiling fans throughout, laundry room, and beach towels, chairs, umbrella, cooler, and a handy beach cart unique to our houses. Bicycles and golf carts are available for daily or weekly rental in the village center, as golf carts are street legal in the village area where the Mermaid is located.

We think you'll find our Mermaid Home to be perhaps the best prepared of all Captiva rental houses. This house is not turned over to a management company; We personally supervise all cleaning and preparation of the house, pool deck and grounds every Saturday, right down to the music selection you'll hear when you walk into the house. And in addition to weekly maintenance, an update is done most every year.

RENTAL NOTES: Weekly rentals only. Check-in is Saturdayat 2pm ( 14:00 hr).Check-out is Saturdayat 10am ( 10:00 hr). .A $500 per week advance payment by credit card will hold a weekly reservation. The payment balance is due 60 days prior to scheduled arrival. Final payment may be by credit card or personal check. 11% Florida state and hotel tax is applicable. Cancellation allowed up to 60 days prior to scheduled arrival with full advance payment refund. No refunds are given for cancellation within 60 days of scheduled arrival or after final payment is made unless home is re-booked for that period. We suggest our available travel insurance to cover cancellations due to health or weather related issues. We never charge security deposit, reservation fee, pool heating, cleaning, linen or trash fees. All are included in our weekly rental rate.Smoking & pets are not permitted.

Getting around

The house is in the village center area with everything nearby and easily navigated by foot or rental bicycle. A golf cart can also be rented to drive on the village streets. Limo or Uber service is available from the airport to Captiva. The limo service is rate controlled to Captiva, but not the return. Uber is less expensive both ways and will save the cost of car rental. Groceries can be delivered to the house for a $25 fee and small fill-in items are available at the Island Store, a 5-minute walk from the house.

Interaction with guest

We live nearby in Ft Myers and are at the house preparing for each Saturday's guest arrivals. If needed, we can be there quickly if needed for anything during your stay

Very nice comfortable home. We will reserve for next year. Hoping Bikes are tuned up and Gas grill clean and ready for us. Very nice location. Pool very clean and nice but a little chilly.

Response from the owner We can't control the weather. The pool temp could not be held to 85 degrees as the week started with a rare cold front bringing several days of temps in the 40s at night. It did recover by later in the week as expected. The grill could easily be cleaned by pre-heating the burners for 15 minutes and use of the supplied grill brush (found inside the grill) as explained to our guests. The remarks on the bicycles still puzzle me, as there were 4 bikes for two riders and no mention of any issue was made during the stay. This is our first less than 5 star rating since 2010! As a final note, the guests have already reserved the house for next year.

If Larry & Debbie (the owner) agrees, they’ll send you a revised quote outlining the changes. You can review and accept/decline this from the Manage your booking page. You’ll have 48 hours to take action before the revised quote expires.
