“Beautiful island, excellent location, excellent accomodation.”
Michael and Patrick, as others have said in previous posts, have done such a great job in meeting the needs of their guests. We traveled as a family - first ever vacation with the kids that didn't involve anyone else, but us! We rented the whole house and it was our home for a week. We enjoyed many beaches but Playuela was our favorite. We took a tour of the biolumenescent bay while the moon was just a sliver, but the sky was so full of stars. Michael and Patrick's property manager, Renee, gave us plenty of tips, insights, and answered our questions throughout the week. She was very informative and helpful. We didn't do everything that is available on the island, which leaves us with the possibility of returning, and return we will! The house was perfect for our family's needs; kids downstairs and adults upstairs. Truly everything is available to you, washer/dryer, full kitchen amenities, A/C in the bedrooms. Life was good at Casa Dos Chivos! Thank you!
It was just the two of us for our anniversary, so we had the top all to ourselves. Place was immaculate, excellent kitchen, relaxing great room and the air conditioner in the master bedroom for comfortable sleeping was a big plus. We started each morning with coffee and star fruit from the tree on the property, sitting on the veranda overlooking the forest all the way to the Caribbean. Location was excellent and central to go both sides of the island and various wonderful beaches. Renee, the property manager was extremely helpful. Planning on going back, hopefully with friends who can stay downstairs, in the not too distant future. Steve S.
This large well furnished house is in a very central location. It's in good repair, and Renee was very helpful. She picked us up, helped us unload at the house, and enlightened us on all the great local spots before dropping us off at Maritza's (We wholeheartedly recommend renting a jeep from them). We had quick access to all our favorite locations on this quaint island. The home's location and construction made us feel safe and secure. We went to bed each night to the sound of the Coqui frogs. We made the quick drive to the grocery store and brought back steaks for the gas grill to go with the fresh veggies we had picked up from the Tuesday morning farmer's market. It took us less than 10 minutes to get to lunch and shopping in Esperanza. About the same to get to our Buen Provecho each morning in Isabel Segunda for iced coffee and Salmon Bagel. Snorkeling at Green Beach was great. We only rented the top floor for our anniversary this tim
“I couldn't have asked for a better experience.”
Casa Dos Chivas is perhaps the nicest place I've ever stayed: a spectacular view, spacious rooms, well appointed and furnished with the comfort and convenience of the guests in mind. After spending four nights here, the only quibble I had was that the washing machine or the dryer left a few rust stains on a T-shirt. The location is great: well off the main roads but close enough to Isabel Segundo that it's no problem to run into town when you want to. The property manager went out of her way not only to lead us from the car rental agency to the unit, but to give us a detailed run-down on what was available in the unit and on the island. She even delivered a package of goods I'd left behind at a prior lodging and had sent to her P.O. box. We give two thumbs up to Casa Dos Chivas only because we can't give more.
“Fantastic place to stay”
We were traveling with another couple to Vieques and were delighted to find Casa Dos Chivos. It is the perfect place to stay on Vieques and only 15 minute drive to virtually anywhere on the island. It is a spacious, well appointed home with all the comforts that you expect and more. It is wonderful for two couples to stay, as each has their own space. The kitchen has everything you need to make your own meals when you decide not to eat at one the terrific restaurants in town. The property manager, Renee, is delightful and very helpful in getting you oriented to the island. She met us at the car rental, and showed us to the property to help us check in. It was dark and we were appreciative of her assistance. We will stay there again for sure!
“Beautiful in every way”
My wife and I stayed at Casa Dos Chivos for our honeymoon this August. We absolutely loved everything about it- from the beautiful and scenic views of the island and ocean, to the well furnished living spaces, to the very informative guide books provided by the owners. We really enjoyed the time that we spent just relaxing in the house after many long days adventuring around the island or sunbathing at the beaches! We used the guidebook everyday to become more knowledgeable about the sites we would be visiting, and to choose a place for dinner based on the menus provided! We also really appreciated that the kitchen was well-stocked and ready to cook meals. We cooked a few Puerto Rican dishes and enjoyed a few drinks out on the beautiful balcony. We would most definitely recommend this house to anyone traveling to the Island of Vieques!
“Beautiful Property, Great Value”
We opted for the one-bedroom apartment at Casa Dos Chivos during the first week of May, and it was PERFECT for us. Although I've been trying to come up with observations/insights different from those previously mentioned, it looks like I'll pretty much echo what others have said. Anyway... The house is beautifully appointed with everything anyone would need for cooking in, going to the beach, or relaxing on site: 1) Fun color choices, fabrics, artwork; quality linens and towels. 2) Gas grill, lots of cookware, glassware, plastic containers for leftovers or picnic items. 3) Beach chairs, coolers, umbrellas, towels. 4) Much-appreciated washer and dryer. 5) Hundreds (I'm not kidding) of books that you might actually want to read [this from me - a retired English teacher]. Because we are lazy beach-goers, we took full advantage of this feature. There are also tons of DVDs. 6) Fantastic wrap-around porch with breathtaking views - particularly good in the morning for breakfast and adult beverages anytime. We found this to be an excellent location. Everything in Vieques is - at max - about fifteen minutes away, and usually much closer. The hillside breeze and many ceiling fans kept the place cool without A/C, even though it is an option in the bedroom. In addition to all of its great features, Casa Dos Chivos is an excellent value: if we had rented the entire house it would still have been a bargain. Finally, I highly recommend Patrick's book documenting their acquisition and renovation of the property. I read it when we got home from our trip: it's informative and hilarious. Patrick has a great voice (that English teacher thing again....)
“Wonderful Casa Dos Chivos”
Casa Dos Chivos doesn't disappoint. It is true to the photos and video on the website. This was our first self-planned Vrbo experience and our first trip to Vieques. It was important to us that our week would meet the expectations we had from the website. We rented the one-bed room option. Michael and Patrick have offered in this home everything you would want for an easy living vacation. The kitchen is well equipped for creating all kinds of meals and drinks. The huge gas grill on the balcony allowed diversity to our cooking. The adjoining dining area provides a wonderful setting for a late evening meal. The bedroom and bath areas are clean, large and very comfortable. Overhead fans kept all of the area comfortable throughout the day and night. Most of all we found the privacy on the second floor allowed us to use the entire space without concern for nearby houses. The gates enclosing the driveway and house porches gave us confidence in the security of the house. There are plenty of books and Dvds available (no CDs, however). We used an available radio that picked up a station with some easy background music to add even more of a serene feeling to our stay. Our morning meals on the balcony overlooking Isabel II and the atlantic Ocean created a great beginning to every day. And after a day on the beaches or exploring the island, drinks before dinner on the same balcony provided a unique closure. And even though the nearest neighbor's rooster sounded like it was occasionally right under the bedroom window and the light early morning traffic at times roared round the corner of the hill just at the entrance to the driveway, these sounds all created an ambiance, a special feel for island life, not available in a secluded, purged resort. Most of the best beaches on Vieques can only be accessed by a Jeep and in a slow drive. But what a fun drive these roads are. A great value for a great location vacation. We'll be back!
Both the owners and the local property manager where a very important source of info for our planning. Their local insight was invaluable to enjoy and make the most of our time in Vieques. The house looks like an Ikea showroom. Super clean, everything matches. Besides it offers everything you need while in Vieques (except for the car): - Fully equipped kitchen. Restaurants in Vieques are expensive (it's hard to find meals for less than us$20) and sincerely we didn't have any amazing meals. We ended up cooking most of the time, which is no hassle thanks to the well stocked "Morales" supermarkets and the farmers market (at the intersection of 200 and 201). - Beach gear (towels, cooler, chairs, shades) Make sure to check what the house already has (specially condiments) before you head to the supermarket. The fridge was already stocked with a bunch of stuff from past guests. Try to go and see the bio bay with no moon. We went with full moon and it was amazing, still I can only imagine how great it looks with full darkness. Our favorite beaches where "Playa Plata" (white podery sand, turquoise water, no one around!) and "Playa Grande" (fun surf, large beach lined with huge palm trees, also no one around). Punta arenas is great for watching the sunset, but!... there is a huge water reservoir close by with almost no breeze, so the amount of mosquitoes was industrial! Be sure to have plenty of repellent.
“Ideal base for relaxing vacation”
We loved everything about Casa Dos Chivos: It's an easy drive to Isabel and Esperanza and the major beaches (Green was our favorite). The property manager was very helpful with advice about the farmers' market (Tues-Wed), local restaurants and beaches and even where to recycle. We enjoyed the view, the ability to grill, and the breeze -- we never needed air conditioning. We'd absolutely love to stay again!
