We had a wonderful stay in the Zen Tree House at Hale Nalo! The apartment is so beautifully and peacefully designed and maintained (with every needed convenience from dishes to beach towels and an excellent selection of movies) and we were able to enjoy the fresh breezes from the ocean day and night. Waimanalo beach, which is just stunning, is just a 3 minute walk away as are a few lovely local cafes. It was a truly peaceful and quiet few days of comfort and natural beauty!
Response from the owner Aloha J&J: We are so happy we could accommodate your visit. Thoroughly enjoyed having you on property. Please come again :) soon.
“The perfect location for your vacation in Oahu”
I cannot give enough positive comments about our stay in the "Zen Tree House." We visited Hawaii for my husband's 50th birthday. This is the third island we've visited in our travels. We have hesitated to visit Oahu, thinking only of the hustle and bustle of Waikiki. Staying at Hale Nalo, one would never think that there was a major city within driving distance. The relaxing location and beautiful sandy beach made us feel that we were on our own remote island. There were many times that we were the only people on the beach - which, by the way, is only a two minute walk from Hale Nalo. Herlinda was the perfect hostess. She was helpful, but never intrusive. Everything from beach chairs to guide books was at our disposal. We made our Thanksgiving dinner on the grill and enjoyed eating it outside on the balcony. We travel frequently and I am not always entirely pleased with our accommodations. However, this is one getaway that I can recommend without reservation!
“Amazing!! Can't wait to go back!!!”
We arrived to a friendly hello and welcome. We were instantly greeted by the Inn Keeper Herlinda, and Wayne, who is a friend of hers. He was helping her with some cosmetic work to the property. It was nice to see the care that went into the property. With Hale Nalo there is no formal check-in, but we immediately found our room (one of the smaller suites on the first floor), and on the door was our names to greet us, another nice touch. We were told by Herlinda that the beach was just a minute walk from the property. So, we off loaded our bags and took the short walk (Literally a minute). There we found amazing views!!! The second night of our stay there we upgraded to the "Zen Tree House" and there is no other way to describe it, but the name itself...Zen!!!. It was beautiful and very well laid out with your own balcony off the front and back of the unit...Lots of windows (and two slider doors) to let in the light and the great Hawaii breeze from the beach. Throughout our stay if we had any questions or wanted to know about anything Herlinda was always happy to give us suggestions... She gave us suggestions on where to go to eat, things to see and do, and how to get there. We took all of her advise, and we were very pleased with her suggestions. The other guests that were also there during our stay were very nice as well and never felt as though we were running into them too much. It was an absolute pleasure to have found such a wonderful gem and to meet such a wonderful person in Herlinda. We will definitely be returning to Hale Nalo on our next visit to Oahu (Which we hope is in the near future) It is an experience that we will never forget!!! Thank you Herlinda for everything!!! “Simply amazing... you won't be disappointed!”
Just returned from 14 nights spent in Zen Treehouse and I can honestly say that this place was simply amazing. This was our 7th trip to Hawaii and I can honestly say that the Zen Treehouse exceeded our expectations of vacation rentals in Hawaii. After a really easy reservation process, Herlinda (the hostess), sends you an email that gives you the basics. It has very easy to follow directions to the unit, directions to the grocery stores, parking info and the check in process... made it all stress free. What you really want to know about is the rental... The Zen Treehouse is absolutely amazing and a real stunner. It's a great size (900 sq ft) and very nicely decorated/furnished. There are hardwood floors throughout the unit, granite countertops in the kitchen, travertine countertops and slate floors in the bathroom. No expense was spared in this rental. There is a full sized stainless steel fridge/freezer with water/ice in the door, a induction hot plate with stainless steel cooking pots and extra large stainless steel toaster oven that easily fit a frozen pizza. There is a coffee maker, bean grinder, smoothie blender and rice cooker. There is an iPod docking station/radio, a flat screen TV with DVD player and a library of Dvds. The bed is plush top is very comfy and the towels are thick and fluffy. Seriously, no expense was spared when this place was designed, built and furnished. You can tell that a lot of thought was put into the comfort of the guest and the little details that make all the difference. I was truly impressed. While there was no a/C, none was needed as the trade winds cooled the unit. As you can tell, I can go on and on and on about this place. I have travelled from Egypt to Indonesia to Fiji to Brazil and everywhere in between. I can honestly say that this is one of my favorite places to stay in the entire World. When we return to Hawaii there is no doubt that I will return to Hale Nalo.
“Nice quiet place”
We stayed in one of the lower rooms and it was just as described -- clean, quiet, a very short walk to a fantastic beach. There are a lot of "rules" to follow and a bit of a sense of being watch/hovered over but this was not a problem for us and it helps to create the peaceful and serene feel of the place. Very private.
Response from the owner Readers: We contacted these guests to discuss their comments (which mortified us) and she said "Oh, don't lose any sleep over it, if I had your beautiful place I'd probably run things just as you are. We'd come back in a heartbeat!" Thank you! We'd love to have you back :)
“Very clean and comfortable - Felt like home!”
Like others I did alot of research into where to stay in Oahu. When I stumbled upon Hale Nalo ihere, all I read were great comments. Well, I am I not going to disappoint you here. We booked the Zen Tree house for 5 nights, and every time we came back from an excursion, it felt like coming home. There was balconies on both sides of the building depending on if you want sun. Herlinda was fantastic and being there for any questions but also gave you your space when needed. Sofie was our "adopted" dog for the week, and we even went out and bought a box of dog cookies for her. I swear she was smiling every time she saw us. (Dont worry, if you are not a dog lover, Sofie has her own yard, and I did not hear her bark once!) Just like others, her recommendations were bang on, and did do most of them, including where to eat. We were not disappointed on any of them. Yes, you need a car, if you really want to see the Island you will need to rent a car, I also suggest a GPS. Loved waking up and having the Kona coffee, and fresh fruit that she put out for us.
“If you want to get away from it all...”
Before beginning my review I have to note that I read or at least scanned all of the previous reviews. I can happily report that all of the other reviewers had the same sense of Hale Nalo as we did - it is private, peaceful and serene. If you don't look for these values in your vacation destinations you might not be happy here. However, if these values are important to you, your search has ended. Just book Hale Nalo. Herlinda has done a wonderful job of providing for your creature comforts. Clean and comfortable lodging in a garden setting with kitchen and laundry right at hand, along with all of the gear you might take along for a day of beaching, snorkeling or just plain exploring. Hale Nalo is located in a nice residential area of Waiamanalo and served as the perfect home base for our daily explorations. Honolulu, Waikiki and Diamond Head are about 30 minutes distant. Kailua is perhaps 15 minutes to the north and Hawaii Kai about the same distance to the south. Both of these towns have full service food stores and a good variety of dining options. The North Shore is about 1 1/2 hours north but a beautiful drive as you can follow the coast for most of the trip. At some points you may be perilously close to driving into the ocean. It's a fun trip and more so in winter when the big surf is rolling in. And here's the best part, at least to us. We could get up early, engage in one morning adventure or another, and be back at Hale Nalo for lunch before lolling the rest of the day away at our "private beach". Just the way we like it. All in all our nine days at Hale Nalo rank among the top trips we have taken over too many years to count. When we are able to return to Hawaii in the future we will surely make some time to stay again at Hale Nalo. Thanks to Herlinda for providing such a wonderful hideaway. GregG
Response from the owner Thank you so much. It would be my absolute pleasure to have you come again :) H.
“True Hawaiian getaway experience.”
The Zen treehouse makes a perfect getaway where you forget about your troubles and worries at home. In the evening you can hear the waves of the ocean. The walk to the most beautiful beach we have ever seen is just 50 yards away. The condominium was spotless and if you needed something that wasn't already provided Herlinda would make sure you were taken care of. We hope to return soon as we have nothing but the fondest memories of our Hale Nalo experience.
“Peaceful, beautiful,calm, luxury”
I had the trip of a lifetime. I was so happy in the space, I felt at peace and totally welcome. So close to the beach, everything was at hand, safe, secure, quiet and beautiful. Hosts were on hand but not intrusive, informative, fun and respectful. All beach gear was provided, such as beach chairs, flippers, goggles, towels even after sun care cream. I will totally go back with friends and family.
Owner is very friendly and the accommodations are clean and quiet. The beach is a 30 second walk from the house, and it seems to be quiet and pristine at all times. For groceries, you are only a short drive away from the town of Kailua, so you never really feel isolated in Waimanalo. Looking forward to returning.
