“very nice view to clifton beaches from terrace”
We stayed in the apartment for 6 weeks during December 2017 to mid January 2018. Most impressive feature was the view to the Clifton beaches from the big terrace. The equipment of the apartment was very useful, for us especially the washing machine, the dishwasher, the NutriBullet 600 smoothie maker and the sun loungers with mattress on the terrace proved very good value. The whole front to the terrace consists of pieces of glass reaching from the bottom to the top, which can be slided to the side. So even when closed the view from inside to the beaches is unspoilt. The front is directed to the west, so the sunsets can be enjoyed very well. This is an advantage and as well a disadvantage, as after 5 o'clock in summer it can get very bright and hot, as the sun rays then pass below the big sun store which has no "vertical section" at the end. At colder days (23 degree celsius) this is no issue, but at hotter days (30 degree celsius) you may want to go inside and close the curtains. It must be mentioned that I don't remember to have encountered a fly or moscito during our whole stay! What worked out quite well was the parking of our rented car in the private parking lot on the top of the building as well as in shopping centers and in Camps Bay where for 15 to 30 Rand (1.2 to 4 US$) we could stay for lunch. Very useful as well was the water tap at the wall of the building so when coming back from a stroll to the beach the feet could be washed before putting on the sandals again. A minor improvement could be the installation of an espresso machine (for 6 weeks we just bought our own Nespresso machine in the shopping centre of the V&A waterfront). Another improvement according to the owners will be the installation of a faster internet connection. We bought our own data sim card and loaded 1GB data capacity for 150 Rand (12 US$) for times when the connection was to slow to be useful and for more secure private banking sessions.
We know Capetown very well and have stayed in many beach properties. There is no getting away from the fact that, when the weather is kind, this apartment offers a large patio space with stunning views of Clifton beach and its fabulous sunsets. It was unseasonably hot during our stay (44 degrees) then plummeting to 17 degrees on the 3rd day of our stay; wet and cold. Sadly this meant that we did not get to capitalise much on the outside space as the umbrella (see previous review) had not been seen to (it had not been replaced with a tilting one and there was no awning) and was pretty inoperable and almost impossible to get up. One of the struts was also badly damaged. The apartment itself is certainly nice enough though the bathroom and bedroom are small, the latter's window facing directly onto an apartment block so we kept the curtains closed at all times, meaning little or no natural light. We also had problems with lack of hot water which was annoying, particularly given there is no dishwasher. The safe was broken. But we did enjoy our stay ... until checkout at least. We were accused of breaking the umbrella and told that our cash deposit would be returned minus the substantial cost of repairs for this and a disposable salt and pepper which we accidently left on the beach (we assumed it had been left by the previous occupants so did not replace) and some clothes pegs. Really?!? In the end we managed to sort it out amicably enough but it certainly spoilt our holiday and all memories of Helianthus. We were surprised that a cash deposit is not returned as such and that with no inventory, checkout is not completed and damages agreed upon with the guests present. We also lost out with the cash deposit being refunded via paypal - no big deal but annoying on principle, given that we had already been charged not inconsiderable bank fees in order to complete the owners booking system. We always look to rent new places so will not be back. We would recommend it to others though as when things go well, Capetown doesn't get much better than this.
“A Piece of Paradise”
Breath-taking setting with the best seaview in Cape Town! Panoramic views of the atlantic, backed by dramatic blue-washed mountain peaks. Listen to the sound of the crashing waves on the famous Clifton beaches right below; watch the incredible african sunsets and the ships passing by against a crimson skyline at a distance. A spacious and clean apartment with large terrace, tastefully furnished, well managed and very well equipped. Air-conditioning (bedroom and lounge) brings relief during hot summer days when temperatures are soaring.
“Best kept secret in Clifton”
This was our second visit to the same apartment and it is even more magnificent than before. The apartment has been upgraded since our first visit and it is stunning! The views of the ocean through the seamless glass windows are spectacular! We enjoyed watching the incredible sunsets from the large balcony. We enjoyed relaxing on the loungers and eating our meals on the balcony. The apartment is fully equipped with everything you need. The beach is steps away and is like a private beach! We just loved staying at the apartment and would highly recommend it! We can't wait to return!!
Highly recommended! Great location at Clifton beach no. 1. Fantastic views!
“Wonderful and comfortable”
I have been visiting Cape Town for ten years for work and have rented numerous apartments. Helianthus Seaview apartment is by far the most comfortable and well-stocked one by far. Everything from inquiry, through arrival, to departure was great. And the view...one can only experience it to do it justice. Thank you for having it there and I hope to experience it again soon.
“The stunning view and the sound of the atlantic!!”
We arrived and found paradies! The appartement was very clean and from each room we saw the atlantic ocean. Unbelievable but true! The smell of fresh washed laundry, sun and ocean came into our noses... Fantastic! The refrigerator was stocked with food for the first 24 hours and a friendly lady showed us arround and explained us everything about the appartement. After she left we sat down on the terrace and could not believe our luck! Every day we had breakfast on the terrace and we spotted dolpines, whales, seals and all kind of birds. Every second day we jogged to Sea Point and back along the seaside. The appartement is 15 min.drive away from the V&A; Waterfront and 20 min. drive from Houtbay. No need to mention that restaurants and bars were only a few minutes drive away. It was the perfect combination of everything: Sightseeing, good restaurants, beaches, hikking and relaxing. We enjoyed every second and we'll be back...
Response from the owner Thanks so much for this positive review. it means so much to know that you felt so welcome and happy. How lucky you were to spot some whales too.
“Stunning beach setting”
Wonderful location above Clifton 1st beach with reserved parking and direct access to the beach. We really appreciated the attention to detail in the apartment with the generous provision of kitchen and bathroom amenities. The property manager was attentive and helpful - nothing was too much trouble. Our only snag was that the internet access was not wireless. We could not use the USB dongle on our laptops because our software was out of date - and we needed interent access to update the software! We wouldn't hesitate to return in the future.
Response from the owner Thanks so much for your wonderful review. It is much appreciated. We are working on wi-fi , so hopefully by the next visit all will be sorted. Best wishes Charlene
“Care free relaxing experience”
We have stayed in several apartments at Clifton but this was one of the better apartments. The unit is laid out in a practical way and is furnished with quality stuff. The patio facing the beach is designed for lots of sun and yet also private enough. We plan to go back next year
“Fantastic stay in well equipped and very comfortable apartment”
We had the most wonderful vacation in this apartment in Clifton. The apartment was very well equipped, compact and very comfortable. The view from the apartment is breathtakingly beautiful. The early morning views of the ocean and the evening sunsets are incredible. The apartment has a lovely feel to it and has nautical decor. We enjoyed lying on the loungers on the balcony and we also enjoyed having meals on the balcony. We were steps from the beach and loved our daily stroll along the beach. Staying on First beach is like having your own private beach as there is no access to First beach from the street. I would definitely stay in this apartment next time I visit Cape Town and would highly recommend it.
