“Paradise by the sea”

Reviewed 26 May 2015

We loved our stay at this lovely flat, a few steps away from the sea. The place is spacious, sunny, and very tastfully furnished, . There is everything you need in the kitchen, nice linen on the beds and towels in the the bathrooms , and a lovely terrasse overlooking the Bay. It was quiet although very centrally located, near shops, restaurants, and a bakery with delicious croissants, we hope to return soon!

Response from the owner Love to get these great reviews! Hope to see you soon. Mattie

“Great apartment in the old town of VilleFranche.”

Reviewed 4 Nov 2014

Hi Mattie Sorry I have been meaning to get back to you. We absolutely loved your apartment, it was just fantastic and the location superb. Most mornings we ran Cap Ferrat – a great start to the day. We spent a lot of time exploring by foot and walked into Eze one day. Trips to Nice, Montecarlo and Portofino were nice but we all loved coming back to Villefranche. Afternoons were spent by the beach and evenings wandering around town and trying out all the fabulous restaurants. My 11 year old son had been learning French at school so he enjoyed walking down to the bakery and ordering. The butcher also gave him lollies when he ordered in French which was lovely. One of our lasting memories will be the wonderful smells coming up onto the balcony from the restaurants below. We had the most amazing lamb shanks from the restaurant downstairs and had to go back a second night. The owner was surprised that people from New Zealand would be so keen on his lamb! Would love that recipe if he was ever to share it! Kind regards/Carlene P.S. Sue met us and spent time at the apartment with us advising how things worked and where to get things which was great.

Response from the owner Lovely!! Looking forward to welcoming more guests in 2015! We make improvements each year so our property is up to scratch!! See you very soon.......Love Mattie

“Dreamy & Enchanting”

Reviewed 15 Oct 2014

Our stay in the Old Town of Villefranche-sur-mer was a dreamy and enchanting experience, framed by the beautiful terrace of the apartment that captured the beauty during our stay. The apartment is clean, bright and comfortable; it invites you in and promises to make it very difficult to leave! While it is walking distance to Cap Ferrat and a 10 min train ride to Nice, we didn't want to leave the apartment which provided a relaxing atmosphere along with a stunning view of the bay of Villefranche. There are a number of nice restaurants in the village, and we cooked a number of meals and enjoyed them on the terrace under the full moon. Everything you need is provided for in the apartment, from comfort to utility and we are so grateful that our first stay in Villefranche was met with exquisite hospitality from Mattie and impeccable accommodations. We look forward to our return!

“Fantastic, location location location.”

Just a quick note to say thank you to Mattie, we rented the apartment in april, weather was fab and the apartment is a home from home, you literally have to turn up with you're clothes and nothing else (well some money would help). There are dvds washing machine tumble dryer etc etc. The view from the apartment is magical,we are familiar with the area but have not actually stayed in villfranche so we really enjoyed much more of the old town, metres from the entrance are bars restaurants bakers etc. The other great advantage is you don't need a car, the train station is only a 5 minute walk and from there you can explore nice Monaco Italy etc, the fares are very reasonable. I would also like to thank sue who is Matties property manager, she was very helpful and even arranged a taxi for our departure at a reduced rate. If the south of France is you're kind of place this is a little gem. See you next year. Ian.

“Fabulous apartment in great location!”

We have just spent a week staying here and it was wonderful, beautifully appointed and perfect for our family get together of 6 adults. All went very smoothly with taxi to and from airport arranged for us and a lovely welcome to the apartment and Villefranche by the local manager. We enjoyed breakfast every day on the sunny veranda overlooking the bay and only had to walk a few steps from the door to find a choice of great restaurants. Exploring the area is easy by local bus and train, even better on foot and we can recommend a walk around Cap Ferrat and the walk up to Eze village. Nice and Monaco easily reached by train in a few minutes, but the apartment and Villefranche a peaceful place to return to each day. We will be back! The Watkins, UK and USa

We were looking for a relaxing week away and as soon as I spoke with the owner Mattie I just knew we had found the perfect place. Set in the middle of the old town, the spacious and beautifully decorated apartment has everything you could possibly want. There are plenty of good restaurants within 2 minutes of your front door, however the views from the apartment are so glorious we often preferred to shop in the town during the day and spend the evenings eating and drinking on the fabulous balcony, watching the Yachts in the harbour come and go. There is a good train and bus service for sightseeing, and the beach was a very easy 10 minute walk and far less crowded than I expected, even in early September. We can't wait to return.

“A little slice of Heaven”

What a little gem artistes Tresor is! My family (me plus my husband and three teenage sons) stayed here for a week and we couldn't have been more comfortable. We really felt like part of the community .. The apartment is right in the old town on the second floor of an old building with great views over the bay. We spent hours sitting on the lovely little balcony happily watching the boats coming in and out of the bay. Tip: bring binoculars for better spying! It was an easy stroll to all the restaurants in the town and the little supermarket is almost next door! The beach is also an easy stroll along the harbour wall. And the train station is a five minute walk down the hill and gives access to lots of interesting places up and down the coast - we made day trips to the medieval village of Eze in the hills above Monaco and to Ventimiglia in Italy.  The apartment is very comfortable and immaculately clean and felt like a home from home. The owner has a policy of leaving things that other guests have left so the kitchen had salt, pepper, sugar, tea, coffee, oil, vinegar, washing up liquid, dishwasher tabs and even some foodstuffs like rice and pasta etc. I have rented lots of properties and i have never seen this before - it made such a difference not to have to go out and buy all these things! There were even beach mats, balls and a snorkel! Thank you Mattie! Sue, the property manager, met us from our taxi and showed us to the apartment and gave us tips on what to do and where to eat etc. and even booked a taxi for one of our sons who had to leave earlier than us - she couldn't have been more charming or helpful.  I cannot recommend artistes Tresor highly enough!

“A little corner of heaven on earth”

Reviewed 6 Feb 2012

This is,unquestionably, the most charming haven of peace and beauty on the French Riviera! The apartment is everything one could ask for, either for a short or long term stay. The position in the town makes it easy to shop locally, whilst the excellent transport makes it easy to get around the entire Cote d'Azur. The apartment is well laid out, with breathtaking views from the balcony and it is very well equipped and heated - an important aspect to a Winter stay. There is a good selection of restaurants in the town and interesting sights and places of interest in the area - specially recommended is the historical walking tour of Villefranche itself, which starts at the Information Centre. If you enjoy walking, there is no better place to be based. Villefranche has a micro climate,so with the bright and sunny, but gloriously crispy days, we could not have asked for anything more perfect in the middle of Winter. We were provided with excellent service and advice and the apartment was a 'home from home' with a great selection of books, dvds and a welcoming gift. We shall definitely be returning to this little corner of heaven on earth and to 'l'Artistes Tresor'!

Response from the owner what a great review - makes me really happy that people love it as much as I do! Mattie

“A gem in Villefranche”

Reviewed 30 May 2011

"My wife and I and our 8 month old little man stayed in Mattie's apartment for 8 days in March this year. We had the most spectacular Spring weather and the apartment was everything we hoped for and previous reviews had promised. Mattie's friend Sue met us on our arrival, let us in, arranged a travel cot and gave us all the tips that only a local can give. The apartment is sunny, spacious (could easily accommodate six people in the three bedrooms and two bathrooms), equipped with everything you could possibly want and blessed with a balcony which has an uninterrupted view of the bay. It is up three flights of stairs with no elevator, but this shouldn't deter even those with babies: we managed it easily enough with one of us carrying the baby and the other the pram. If you want to take advantage of the self-catering facilities, there is a well-stocked Spar supermarket about a 5 minute walk away, up the hill, together with a bakery selling croissants and fresh bread every morning. For dinners, we followed Sue's advice and enjoyed a succession of fantastic and inexpensive meals at Cosmo and the place next door. Five minutes from the apartment is a beach which looked good by Mediterranean standards. Because there was another family arriving, we had to move out on our final night and stayed at the Wellcome hotel. This was the same price as Mattie's place for the night but there was absolutely no contest in terms of value and convenience. Villefranche is stunning in its own right but also a great base for exploring the surrounding areas and the Cote d'Azur more generally. We did some beautiful morning and afternoon walks to Beaulieu and Cap Ferrat, while for day trips we took the bus to Monaco (30 mins) and Nice (10 mins) for 1 Euro (seriously!) and caught the train down to Cannes one Sunday. Thanks again, Mattie and Sue. We will definitely be back!"

Response from the owner I am really delighted when our guests have appreciated Villefranche and all it has to offer as well as enjoying my apartment. Brilliant! Nothing could give greater satisfaction than happy guests. Hope to see you soon. Mattie
