This is a beautiful house, as described with lots of charm and a view of the church from the bedrooms. There were 5 of us and we were really comfortable. The kitchen is well equipped but given the nice places to eat that might not be important. In particular we really enjoyed the Italian place a few steps away. The bakery in the main street is also pretty amazing. Saint-Aignan is a terrific base from which to explore the region - check out the 13th century frescoes in the church crypt. We would absolutely stay at La Boulangerie again.
We had wonderful stay at the La Boulangerie. The property is magnificent. Full of French charm, spacious and tasteful decorated with every comfort you need. A true home away from home. The market literally outside your door on Saturday morning...well, words can't describe that experience. From pastries and cheese to the freshest seafood we have ever tasted. The fridge was overflowing by lunchtime and we ate like Kings and Queens during our stay. The medieval town of St Aignan is just beautiful and we loved wandering the streets, castle and church from the central location. It was wonderful being away from crowds and tourists. We felt like we had the town to ourselves at times to share with the locals. The town is also centrally located to the Loire Valley so with a car we enjoyed visiting local wineries and chateaux. The owner Rachael was wonderful to deal with and Nathalie, the local contact, went out of her way to make sure we enjoyed our stay. We are a little reluctant to spread the word about this place as we hope to be back and don't want it to book out, but we highly recommend staying here! A wonderful way to experience and explore the Loire Valley and French culture. It was magical and an experience we will never forget.
“a perfect home way from home for a family”
Perfect home for family of 7. We were 3 generations, ages 6 to 72. La Boulangerie was warmly welcoming, quietly relaxing, clean and comfortable. There was something for everyone. Great pastry, friendly town, good public playground and pool for the kids. Good places to dine out; great kitchen for cooking and eating together at a long table. We all loved it--the children appreciated the history of the house and never felt deprived. The manager was kind and helpful. If you have children, the zoo will amaze them. Our 6 and 7 year-olds decided it was the best zoo on earth!
“Exquisite old world charm meets modern flair and comfort”
I wanted to tell you how much we loved staying at Boulangerie. It was everything we hoped it would be and more. The town was very cute, and very central to everything in the area. We were able to tour 11 castles in four days, plus troglodyte dwellings, and wineries. We loved the well stocked kitchen, the washing machine, the lighting, the cosiness, the fact that we felt like we were staying in a very special place where old world charm blended exquisitely with modern flair and comfort. Our two boys (ages 9 & 12) took the bedroom with the single beds, which they thought reminded them of the nursery in "Peter Pan" They could imagine Tinkerbell flitting around, and maybe even Peter Pan himself sneaking around the fireplace. They like the bears too. The girls (ages 14 & 15)chose the decadent room on the same floor. The high beamed ceilings, window dressings, bed coverings, wall accents, and all of the other accessories made them feel like they had stepped back in time to a very elegant and stately room, yet again, with a modern flair. My husband and I loved the privacy and tasteful sophistication of the third floor bedroom; although we had a difficult time deciding between that room, and the room the girls took. They were both so nice. Now I want to redecorate my rooms to match some of yours, but alas, in a new house, we just can't duplicate some of the features you have in La Boulangerie. From the little "chambre" sign on the door leading to the top bedroom, to the pillows on the beds, to the perfectly placed lighting on walls and lamps, beamed ceilings, wall decorations, window coverings, bathroom fixtures, beautiful side chairs, floor coverings, and other accents, you thought of all the details to make it an enchanting experience. I can imagine all of the work which must have gone into transforming the place, into what it is now! I really don't know what more to say. It was perfect.
La Boulangerie is a gem. The apartment is spacious and nicely decorated. The owner has done an amazing job in restoring an old bakery and turning it into a warm comforting home. I would say it is one of the best rental apartments we have had: centrally located at a picturesque village, tastefully decorated with comfortable beds and sitting areas, beautiful views and a lovely kitchen. The weekend market at the square was a nice surprise, not to be missed if you want some fresh French produce for a home-cook meal. The part we liked best is the evening strolls along the river.
Response from the owner It is great to hear you enjoyed your stay with us. We can't take the credit for the renovation but have ensured that the property is nicely furnished for visitors comfort and pleasure and that it is sympathetic to the region. Thank you so much for posting such a lovely review. We are sending you one of our new La Boulangerie aprons to help remind you of your stay. Warm Regards The team at La Boulangerie
“Perfect place to stay”
We loved our stay at La Boulangerie. It has charming medieval character as well as beautiful decorating, modern bathrooms and kitchen, and comfortable bedrooms. The pictures on the website are accurate; take special notice of the view from the third floor bedroom, a once-in-a-lifetime view. The living room was comfortable too and had a TV that carried BBC and CNN, for those who want to catch up on what is happening elsewhere. Everything was spotless, and Nathalie, the manager, was amusing and helpful--fun to meet. When we had to leave earlier on our day of departure, she was most accommodating. The village itself is so interesting: the medieval buildings, the beautiful church, and the grounds of the chateau, with lovely views over the countryside. Don't miss La Petrie with its excellent baguettes, croissants, and pain au chocolate. We also strongly recommend L'Amarena restaurant, just steps from La Boulangerie. The owners are so friendly and welcoming and the food is delicious, especially, in our opinion, the Sicilian and the Italienne. We're a bit embarrassed to admit it, but we ate there three nights--we couldn't stay away! St. Aignan is perfectly situated for visits to the chateaux. There are so many to choose from, but our favorites were Chenonceau, Villandry, Usse and Cheverny (be there at 5:00 to see them feel the hunting dogs). We also spent time in amboise and toured Leonardo da Vinci's last home there. Overall, it was a wonderful experience. We recommend La Boulangerie most highly and would love to stay there again.
“Amazing house, amazing town in the middle of the Loire Valley Fr”
Stayed in July 2012. Our stay in this amazing house in the centre of the medieval town of Saint aignan was breath taking. Close to all shops and amenities. The 3 bedrooms were well presented, modern furniture in the lounge area also. We visited so many sites, we wished we had stayed longer. Chateaux, ZooParc de Beauval, Wineries, everything right at your doorstep. The Saturday market in the town square out the front of La Boulangerie holiday accommodation is worth staying for. We did too many activities to mention. This house is definitely worth the trip, the walk to the bakery each morning was so much fun, collecting bread and pastries. I would definitely recommend this for any group, family, couple or any other type of traveller. Worth every cent, do yourself a favour and visit the best part of France.
“This place is a traveller's dream destination.”
Our stay in this property was so wonderful that at first I considered keeping it a secret - but I've raved to so many of my friends and family that the word's out! I've been holidaying in Europe regularly since 1978 and I have to concede that Christmas, 2012 in 'La Boulangerie', St aignan, provided one of the highlights of my travel experiences. Your first viewing of the house will make you gasp: those beams! those flagstones! the beautiful, spiral staircases! The historical aspect of the building initially promises a cosy, quirky environment, but in addition to this, it's fitted with all mod. cons: neat kitchen; dishwasher; modern bathrooms; spacious bedrooms; crisp linen; comfortable furnishings. It's a dream. And on Saturday mornings, there's a market on the doorstep, offering the finest comestibles France has to offer. The cheese! The oysters! A few doors down is your local bistro - 'Chez Constant'. Drop in there for dinner on your first night and from then on, you'll be treated like a local. It would be perfectly feasible to spend your time in this village without a car, as there is so much to do, for those who just love to eat, drink and ramble, but if you want to go further afield, the chateaux and vineyards of the Loire Valley are easily accessible. After holidaying here twice, I want to live in St aignan. Correction: I made that decision after the first visit. Full marks to Rachael, the owner, whose communication and helpfulness have been second-to-none. Nathalie, the local shop-owner who will greet you on your arrival, completes the welcoming team for this spectacular holiday rental. Do yourself a favour - book this accommodation.
