“Rum Point Retreat #31 Perfect Location”

Reviewed 4 Jul 2016

My husband, 15 year old son, mother and I stayed here for a week at the end of May. There is no more perfect location, in our opinion, on the island. The condo was very clean and well stocked. The owner was very easy to work with. She responded quickly to any questions both before and during the trip. Condo is on the ground floor, only steps to the beach. It is next door the Rum Point, very convienient for lunch, dinner, drinks, and to book excursions. Even though it is next to Rum Point it is well isolated by a row of hedges. There's a grass yard as you walk out the back door of the screened in porch. My son enjoyed going out early in the morning to take pictures of the land and hermit crabs. The beach is very nice with lots of lounge chairs available. Most importantly to us is the ocean. The water is beautiful, both above and below it. We've snorkeled quite a few places and this is definitely a favorite. We walked west to a public beach, got in and snorkeled back to the condo. We saw lots of things during these snorkels. We saw a spotted eagle ray, a nurse shark, and cuttlefish, just to name a few. We all agree this was one of our favorite trips and we can't wait to go back to #31!

“Rum Point + The Retreat #31 = Wonderful Family Vacation”

Reviewed 3 Apr 2015

This was our first visit to the Cayman Islands and against some advice to stay on Seven Mile Beach (because we have 3 active sons ages 11-16) we decided to stay on the quieter side at Rum Point. We were all thrilled with that decision! The pictures online of the Retreat sold me--I wanted to be right on the point and walk right onto the beach--which is exactly how it was. Karen was great to work with and provided excellent information and suggestions prior to arriving. The condo itself was wonderfully clean and stocked with everything we needed and more. The third bed, made and ready for one of our boys in the second bedroom was a very nice extra touch. Having the restaurant, the wreck beach bar and red sail sports right next door was awesome and we used all of it daily. I just can't say enough about the wonderful location of the Retreat. None of use wanted to leave the point because it had everything we needed included awesome snorkeling, our own stingray and sea turtle encounters, bioluminescence in the bay, starfish beach and fun beach bbq's. Wonderful, wonderful place to stay.

“Excellent location”

Reviewed 31 Mar 2015

My family and I have stayed at this condo for three years now. We love Grand Cayman and we love staying at this location on Rum Point. It's the perfect balance of peace and activity. The condo is well cared for and provides all the necessities required to make it an excellent stay. We highly recommend and look forward to returning next year!

“Place has the necessary amenities to have a nice time.”

This is NOT a great location to stay if your trip is for scuba diving. I wanted to dive daily and had to drive 30 minutes each way to the East end which was a pain and took a lot of time. I had checked into Red Sail Sports which is next door to this condo and come to find out they only go out on Wednesdays and sting ray city 12ft dive. This location on Rum Point is NOT A DIVE AREA! The house was clean and had all the necessary items to make it feel like home. Loved the closeness to the beach & water. There is turtle grass in all areas out front of the condo which made my kids afraid to swim in the ocean. We did make some wonderful sand castles on the white sand beach. It was very windy the week we were there so it made the point very breezy and water choppy.( not owners problem) the condo was quite even with Rum Point next door. The restaurant next door was good food but expensive. Cook in condo on the gas BBQ it's much cheaper! The only thing negative about the condo was the bedding was outdated and had some stains on it. Otherwise we had a great trip at your condo. I would also ask for very specific directions from airport even with 1 main road driving on the wrong side of road in a new area was a bit confusing. Turn by turn directions would have been helpful. Also stop at grocery store by airport the other 2 are very small. The pool is also not heated. Over all we had a good time owner always responded right away to any questions we had before the trip.

Response from the owner Thanks for telling us about the wine stains!! We have ALL NEW BEDDING and QUILTS now and it looks gorgeous! We try very hard to keep our home updated and fresh so we appreciate you letting us know!

“Wonderful Vacation!!”

If you really want to get away, relax, and not have to work too hard, this is the place to come to. The accommodations are very comfortable; wi-fi and AC work well, as do ceiling fans. Karen has thought of everything you might need, including sun screen and bug spray; unpack, walk a few steps to the beach, pull up a chaise under a palm tree, relax. It's that simple. There is a nice beachfront grill right next door for lunch on the beach; the food is excellent although pricey, as most Grand Cayman food is. A trip to Sting Ray City to swim with the sting rays is a kick; snorkeling is very good, even right off the Rum Point beach. We also connected with a naturalist, Geddes Hislop, who took us birding one morning. We learned a lot about the history of the island, and saw 32 different species of birds at 4 sites, including flamingos! We watched the Frigate birds being fed by the chef at Tukka, where we enjoyed several meals. Food was generally very good to excellent. All in all, a wonderful vacation spot.

“Great Vacation”

Reviewed 9 Aug 2014

After reading the great reviews this place gets our expectations were really high and it did not dissapoint. Karen really makes it easy with the packet and suggestions prior to arriving. The condo was very clean and she truly has thought of every need. Kitchen has about every utensil you will need, there are lots of beach towels, T paper, bug spray, etc. The place feels very home like. The location really is great. The bar is truly right next door but closes by 7p so it is very quiet and relaxing. My two boys (5 and 7) would get up every morning with their Papa and walk on the pier seeing lots of fish and stingrays and chasing crabs. Great memories for them. We walked down the road to the public beach which is about 600-700 yards.....and snorkled back. We saw ton's of fish and great gardens of coral. The snorkeling is great as you end up right in front of the condo. Highly recommend taking Karen's advise on water shoes for the beach in front of the condo. Lots of rocks and coral. We really enjoyed Tukkas to eat as their lion fish tacos are incredible. Kurts Corner is a must as this is where the locals eat and the food is great and the price is less expensive. It is not on the beach so we got take out a few times and ate back at the condo. I would recommend going over to Kaibo for the stingray city tour as it is about 1/2 the price vs if you book it right next door to the condo. Plus the boat is smaller and he only takes 10-12 people at a time. Also takes you snorkeling after visiting the sting rays. Rum Point is truly a great place to stay as it is much sleeper than Seven Mile Beach. It does get somewhat active for lunch time as a few cruise passengers show up but they are generally there for 2-4 hrs. The only place we thought the food was just ok was at the ShipWreck. Pricey and just not that great of food. Have someone run up to Kurt's and bring it back. The only thing I would change is outside the condo they had the grass area roped off as they were trying to grow sod. My boys would have loved to throw the ball or kick a soccer ball there but could not. This just means it will be that much nicer when we return!!!!! This truly is a wonderful place to be with your family if you like something a little more layed back. Also Starfish point was fun as we were the only people there for 2 hrs.

“Amazing vacation at The Retreat”

, Your Review is Pending Please read and confirm your review for Property #319515 below. Oh my gosh, I can't say enough about Retreat #31! The location, amenities, the snorkeling right outside the door, etc were fabulous! We had all the comforts of home including free wi-fi! The unit was clean and well-stocked with kitchen gadgets and utensils! Having a washer and dryer in the unit allowed us to get our laundry done before we flew home. Access to the beach can't be beat! We had coffee on the beach every morning right outside our door. We used the gas grill as well and saved the cost of charcoal! With the restaurant, bar, adventure bookings and gift shop next door we didn't even have to leave the area! We wanted to explore the island, though, so we did. We just packed up the cooler that was provided and took a picnic lunch with us on our daily snorkeling excursions - so convenient! No issues with noise from the neighboring restaurant and bar. We could enjoy our peace and solitude on The Retreat grounds or go next door to join the fun and best spirits on the island (try the Blue Iguana)! Perfect location for a memorable vacation!

“Fantastic accomodations”

Reviewed 25 Mar 2014

Could not have been happier with our stay at this condo for a week...only wish we could have stayed longer! The condo was clean, very well stocked with tp, paper towels, condiments, sunscreen, etc. and about 20 steps to one of the most beautiful beaches on the island. Loved that we were not on the busy, city like SMB so it was quiet at night but there is a restaurant, bar, gift shop, etc. just steps away. Although some might complain that Rum Point is a bit far away (i.e. 45 min drive) to the main part of the island (i.e. Smb) it is perfect as a center location if you plan to explore both the West and East side of the island. I would also high recommend the snorkeling off of Rum Point. You have to swim/float out 150+ yards for the best snorkeling but well worth it! We snorkeled ~10 different sites around the island and Rum Point made our Top 3 list.

“Very nice condo #31 at the retreat”

Reviewed 30 Jan 2014

This was our first time staying at the retreat, and this condo worked out very well for us. It's very clean, and well stocked with all your needs, and nicely decorated. It was actually better than we expected it to be. The location is excellent , being right next door to rum point, which is the quiter side of the island. We have been to several other Caribbean islands, but grand cayman keeps calling us back. I would highly recomend this condo at the retreat. Thank you Karen for sharing your home with us.

“Gorgeous sunsets, peaceful, truly awesome!”

Reviewed 6 May 2013

The accommodations were more than perfect for the 3 of us (2 adults, 1 child) with plenty of space, lots of extras I wasn't expecting - sun hats, loads of towels, sun lotion, bug spray, a drying rack for all our wet snorkel and swim gear, some first aid items (helps with accident prone children), lots of condiments in the kitchen, books to reference fish seen snorkeling, novels to read, etc. The kitchen had more than enough pots, pans, dishes, glasses, you name it. All the appliances were all nice, well maintained, clean and working. We stayed a week, purchased food to have breakfast every day, lunch most days, and dinner for 5 nights. The grill was great, too. We grilled our dinner each night. We ate dinner at the restaurant next door the first night. A bit pricey, but excellent food. We highly recommend Tukka's, the australian/island fusion cuisine restaurant! We ate out on the balcony. If you hit it at Happy Hour, the adult drinks are half price, as well as specials for munchies/appetizers. We visited the Blow Holes, Barefoot Beach, Starfish Point, and went on the Stingray City Sandbar glass bottom boat tour twice with Red Sails next door (so convenient). We enjoyed the first trip so much, we did it again. We recommend the glass bottom boat tour over the catamaran tour as you'll have less tourists to vie for the stingrays attention. It's way cool! The best part of the condo - having the beach/water 20 steps from your back door! Absolutely priceless. We went out on the beach every night to watch the sunset. The snorkeling right out your back door is fantastic, as well. Especially for a beginner like our son. Once we got over coaxing him to try it, he was off like a fish in water. Some nights we spotted stingrays swimming about. We did come across a 4' moray eel, scared the dickens out of our son and hubby, too. And we effortlessly floated while we watched a school of stoplight parrotfish on one snorkeling expedition. So awesome!
