“A gem in the middle of Mediterranean”

Reviewed 4 Oct 2014

We stayed at villa Klio for a week with our three kids and we loved it. The villa offered comfort, romance, fun for the kids, a great view of the sea, as well as a very convenient location for exploring the western side of Crete. The town is small, and peaceful with wonderful local restaurants. The people are warm, and friendly.

Response from the manager Dear Greta, thank you very much for the very nice review. I am really glad you all enjoyed your stay at villa Klio and i hope to see you again sometime. Best Wishes, George

“A little piece of paradise!”

Reviewed 14 Jun 2014

We were fortunate to spend the month of May at Villa Klio in Sfinari, Crete. We arrived at the airport in Chania and were met by the car rental agent and a car that had been arranged by George or Kostas. We drove to Sfinari over the beautiful mountain roads admiring the spectacular scenery and avoiding goats on the road. We arrived at the villa to find the refrigerator stocked with Moussaka, salad, wine and bread as well as juice and water!! There was a beautiful bouquet of roses making the villa smell wonderful. What an amazing surprise and delicious meal. We found the villa to be very comfortable, a housekeeper came twice a week. The village of Sfinari is charming and has two small "supermarkets" and several restaurants. We loved walking to the beach and eating at the restaurants there and watching the sunset over the sea. We drove the 20 minute drive to Kissamos for larger stores with more variety. Western Crete has amazing beaches and water warm enough to bathe in even in May! We loved Falassarna Beach, just a short drive from the villa. Elafonisi beach is another spectacular beach with pink sand and shallow water. There is so much to do and see on the island of Crete, we highly recommend it as a vacation destination and recommend Villa Klio as very nice accommodation.

Response from the manager Hello Stephen, thank you for writing such a nice review for the villa, we also thank you for coming and staying at Sfinari. Hope to visit us again someday! George

The temperature of the sea allows you that you can swimm at the end of october

“Great Greek Week”

Reviewed 22 Sep 2013

My wife and I with our one year old daughter had a really good week in Villa Klio. The Villa was clean and well kept. There were quite a few little things that meant this couldn't be a perfect review, but nothing that would stop us from going back. When we arrived there was no hot water, and the air con was broken in one room, but both of these were resolved the following morning. Other than that it's just very minor things, that if fixed would make the place perfect. The parasol by the pool was broken and there were no wall mounts for either of the showers in the villa. The kitchen wasn't very well equipped, for example, there was no large knife - made chopping a water melon very tricky. A brush was provided for washing up, but no cloth for wiping surfaces. Like I said, pretty minor stuff. That's the negatives over and done with. Our one year old loved the place, exploring all the different areas and making friends with the local cats. We enjoyed the choice of 4 eating areas, 3 of which are outside. Breakfast on the balcony in the sun was lovely, then there was by the pool and a shaded table outside the kitchen/lounge area. The garden was beautifully kept. There are double doors to outside from every room, making the place light and airy, and there aircon throughout if that's your thing. The location was nice and quite - if you want a nearby city or town, then this probably isn't for you. There are a few small eateries around, all of which seemed ok at reasonable prices. The best food seemed to be served at restaurants on the beach. To sum it up, it was a great place, and we'd happily go back.

“Cretan authentic atmosphere”

Reviewed 2 Sep 2013

The Villa Klio is one of three similar houses (Villa Klio is in the middle), situated above each other on a hillside overlooking the small village of Sfinari and with a great sea view to the west. The house appears with a high standard and finish related to Greek standards. The terraces on all three levels are each equipped with chairs and tables. The sea view is to the west, and one can see the sun dive into the Mediterranean. The service from the owner was impeccable. The house was kept very clean during our stay, with new linens and towels every 3 or 4 days. The village of Sfinari has around 20-25 houses, and 6-7 tavernas, including 3 at the beach a few hundred meters from the house. The Tavernas are run by local families, and mostly serve self-produced food from their own farm or the sea. We found Sfinari to be a quiet village where you also can get a close-up on the authentic Cretan culture and atmosphere. It is quite the opposite of an "All-Inclusive tourist machine". Shopping is best done in the town of Kissamos, a 20 minute drive away. Overall, we had a wonderful vacation time at Villa Klio, and we will not hesitate to recommend this to others.

“Great villa in a quiet small village”

Reviewed 13 Aug 2013

Excellent villa with everything one would need. Was met with great warm food, some groceries in the fridge, wine. Fantastic! Nice pool, clean, well groomed surroundings. Villa was great, only the beds and pillows where to hard for my taste. Short distances to great beaches, i.e Balos, Elafonissi, Falasarna. Quiet and small village, some noise from dogs barking, friendly people. Restaurants and super markets leave a good deal to be desired, but larger super markets are only 10-15 minutes away. Best restaurant is "Sunset" at the beach. Great for families with small children. Recommended!

“We had a great family vacation!”

Reviewed 22 Jun 2013

we had a warm welcome- even though we arrived late at night. Vasilis family had prepared a yummy cretan dinner for us. The villa is perfect for a family vacation , everything was clean and tidy. The pool is awesome and was maintained well. You definitely need a car to get around and to go grocery shopping in Kissamos. The local taverns offer great food and wine. Some nights the dogs of the village were barking a lot

“flaming red sunsets at your private pool”

Reviewed 13 Jun 2013

Villa Klio is a luxurious villa in quiet village near the sea. The owners are great hosts, willing to help you with all you ask them. The villa is completely furnished, including a great outdoors barbecue. At our arrival they surprised us with a traditional Greek diner. You have a private pool which is lit in the evening. Forget the stress of your daily life in the city and enjoy a glass of homemade wine in your own garden.

“Beautiful villa in an authentic Cretan village”

Reviewed 27 May 2013

We had a wonderful week staying in Villa Klio in Sfinari. The villa is tastefully and attractively designed with balconies looking down over the village to the sea. It is furnished beautifully, spotlessly clean and well equipped. The gardens and pool area are immaculately kept with wonderfully fragrant flowers and shrubs spilling over the balconies. Sfinari itself is a delightful village. It was quiet and sleepy with the tinkle of goat bells in the distance (although dogs barking at night was annoying at times). The village seemed authentically Cretan, with local produce such as honey and olives for sale and goats and sheep wandering along the roadsides. A handful of tavernas serving traditional food (our favourite was the Sunset taverna - last one on the beach) and a couple of small shops selling basics made the peaceful location everything we needed for our week away (there were some bigger supermarkets in Kissamos - about 20 minutes away). The weather wasn't great for a few days during our stay (May 2013) but we found plenty to do, with some good walking and a few trips to interesting places. The location is quite a distance from the major archeological and historical sites and you would probably need to allow a whole day out to visit ones along the North coast. However, we travelled to Chania for the evening on a couple of occasions which was very pleasant. All in all it was a very positive experience with some great attention to detail - including a delicious meal left for us on our arrival, with a bottle of wine, fruit and bread.

“Home away from home”

Reviewed 10 Oct 2012

We stayed at Villa Klio for 6 nights with our 8 month old baby and had a lovely time. The villa is quite baby friendly, the owner Vasilis having provided us with a high chair and a baby cot, and there is also a tub which was great for bathing her. We were met by Vasilis' sister who showed us around and left us a lovely lunch. The Villa was very nice, clean and comfortable with a decent sized pool. Also handy that there are screens on the windows and doors so that you can sleep with open windows without fear of being bitten by insects (there is air conditioning if desired). There are some wonderful views both of the sea and the mountains. Sunsets were amazing! The booking process was very easy and relaxed, Vasilis was readily available for any questions and advice. The agent was helpful and also booked our hire car at a much better rate than we were quoted elsewhere. The hire car process was super quick as they were waiting for us when we landed so no queue for a change! On the main road below the villa there are two cafes, try the one that is also a minimart they sell the most amazing yoghurt which they will also serve you with their delicious honey for breakfast if you ask. The Greek coffee is also very good. The location is good, in a quiet and peaceful village. The beach at Falasarna is an easy 20 minute drive, has free parking and is beautiful. Our baby loved it! We would definitely stay at Villa Klio again.
