“Great Experience”

This booking was a pleasure. Reply was immediate. All charges were plainly spelled out. No booking fee, no credit card fees, only the tax and cleaning fee. The deposit was credited to our bill when we arrived. There's no damage deposit. The owner lives in the building. We had booked both apartments because we had 3 couples who all wanted private bed and bathrooms. Each bedroom had its own aC, satellite TV with local, movie, cable & music channels. We had two older children with us, and they had several choices of where to sleep. Cristo Street is the oldest and most prestigious street in San Juan. The homes there had been palatial; built by the Conquistadors 300 years ago for high ranking officers. The 2 apartments used to be 1, and have been divided by the addition of the 3rd & 4th bathrooms, back to back, so using the apartments together, is easy. If you leave the hall doors open, they flow, one into the other. When you step into the Gallery living room, with the balcony over Cristo St. it kind of knocks you back as you look around at the size of the room. All the walls are decorated with original paintings. Since the building is on "gallery row", the Gallery apartment is often rented by visiting artists, who can show their works while they stay there, and leave them hung until their next show. The Garden apartment is also aptly named, as the center is open to the sky above, and filled with treetops from the garden below. It really is a beautiful. The location is perfect. You don't have to go anywhere, just step out your door, you are already there. For the forts you do have to go a few blocks up the steep hill, but everything else is "down town". The Cristo Chapel on the next block is your view from the balcony. You can find cheaper apartments, but for a memorable vacation, in the best area, this is worthwhile.

“Happy Feet”

12 of us arrived in September for a dance competition. It was not easy finding a place for such a large group, so we took both the Gallery and Garden apartments. Some of the girls doubled up in the king and queen beds, so it was fine. We had plenty of space and really enjoyed the air-conditioning, not only in all the bedrooms, but the central aC in the huge Gallery kitchen and living room. Between events we had some time for sightseeing and shopping, but not much, so it was good that we were right in the center of town so we could just dash across the street for the shops. We were on a limited budget, so we did most of our own cooking in the apartment, and with the grocery store only a block away it was easy. The apartments are efficiently laid out, with no clutter, just what you need. There's plenty of closet and shelf space plus 6 luggage racks, so we didn't have suitcases all over the floor. We were very glad to have 4 bathrooms. One day the city water went off, which I'm told is not uncommon, but since the building has a cistern we always had good pressure, and didn't even know the water was off until we went out and found restaurant bathrooms closed, and people lined up in the grocery store buying water. We loved the original paintings by local artists all over the apartments, but the best was the balcony, where it was constant entertainment. We could see all the way up the hill and down across the bay, and the street was filled with tourists and locals all day long. You could keep the doors to the street shut and hear nothing, but there were school groups of little kids, come to Old San Juan to see their heritage, Spanish troubadours in costume, the "doughnut guy" coming by with scrumptious homemade pastries, the "Piragua guy" jingling bells on his cart, and the ice cream guy. We were so glad to have stayed in this apartment. .

“We got our money’s worth and more!!”

I have never done this before but I feel I must let other people know so that they can get their moneys worth. I have a big family and we can only manage one vacation a year all together. It is wonderful when we can make it a great vacation place at a great vacation home. We stayed at the Gallery apartment for a week around Thanksgiving. What a location! What nice people! It had everything you could need in a home away from home. My husband and I took the bedroom with the king bed, and my 12 year old son took the little bedroom. Our older sons, 18-21, slept downstairs in the living room, which is huge, and has 2 twin beds & 2 futons. They had their own TV and bathroom and we had our own upstairs. The layout of the apartment was very convenient because we could be together yet the doors between the living room and the rest of the apartment made sure nobody bothered anyone else. The sheets were nice and fresh and there were plenty of towels, toilet paper, starter toothpaste and shampoo, and coffee for the first morning. Getting anything else we needed was no problem because the grocery store and Walgreen's were just a block away. The location was superb. The boys could go in and out as they pleased on their exploration of the San Juan night life, and we could come and rest in our central aC apartment between visits to the old city walls, the castle, the cathedral, and the many restaurants in the area. In the first floor of the building there is a store owned by the same owner, and the employees were great offering suggestions and we could always count on them for anything while the store was open -10am to 6pm. And yes, we got our money's worth and more!!

“Living like a "Sanjuanero"”

My family; myself, my husband and our 2 daughters, aged 11 & 13 stayed in the Garden apartment, and were absolutely delighted. Everything was exactly "as advertised" and as it was in the pictures. We arrived late, and it was no problem because the owner, Linda, actually lives on the 3rd floor of the building, which also makes it well kept. Between the 300 yr old architecture and the plants and treetops from downstairs, the whole apartment has the feeling of living in a Conquistadors garden Several nights it rained, and since it was cool enough when we were there that we didn't need to use the air Conditioning, so we had the ticking of the ceiling fans and the sound of the rain on the leaves to lull us to sleep. Although the apartment itself is quiet and private, once you're down the stairs, through the iron gate, and out the glass doors, you're right in the middle of everything - shops, galleries & historic attractions, with trolleys and horse drawn carriages passing by. We usually stopped into Boveda, the gallery/store downstairs - same owner as the apartments. The employees there are wonderful, bilingual and full of useful tips. They helped us plan our days, and where to go for lunch or dinner. There are tour books and magazines upstairs, but It was great to have live people for updated info. When it was raining, it was a blessing to have the grocery store, drug stores and about 15 restaurants and cafes within 1 block of "home". We're planning to come back with our in laws next year, and take both apartments, so we'll have the whole 2nd floor.

“Perfect Week in a Perfect Place!”

My family and my sister's family arrived at the 209 Cristo address on December 2. We rented both the Gallery and the Garden apartments because we wanted the space which was very livable. The owners' employees downstairs escorted us to the units and were very helpful in giving us information and answering questions. The large Gallery kitchen was very clean and well-equipped with service for 12. It was a joy to cook in the air-conditioned unit and we saved a ton of money by not having to eat out. There were four adults and four children aged 8 to 16. We were primarily interested in having a safe location and we couldn't have been happier because from the upstairs balcony we could watch the children as they went in and out of the shops and had lunch in the café below us. There were two policemen on the corner 24/7 and so we were very comfortable. The apartments were very well-maintained the two separate living areas made it very enjoyable for us to entertain ourselves as a family unit but also in smaller groups in different areas. The bathrooms were located very conveniently for all the vacationers. I would recommend either or both of these units to anyone looking for a home away from home in a lovely resort area.

“Comfortable, Cool and So Convenient”

We were greeted by our host and the staff. Settled in quickly and started exploring Old San Juan, quickly found out that we were in the middle of the Old Town, vibrant and with so much to see and do. You can walk, ride the tram, and taxi's are available close by. Cannot think of a better location in San Juan than staying at Boveda. Comfortable, Cool and So Convenient. If we are fortunate to go to San Juan again we know where we are staying.

“Casual, comfortable, feels like home!”

If you want to visit the real San Juan and make new friends too, look no further. The Boveda apartments are walking distance from everything! And they will tell you the best spots, how to get there and what to look for along the way. Linda personally greeted the four of us upon our arrival, at 2am, dead tired, with four travel crazed dogs. The next day, she and her staff made us all feel welcome and told us of points of interest. The fifth member of our group arrived, we expanded into both apartments, and took fill advantage of the well equipped kitchens to prepare some great shared meals. We all enjoyed the comfortable, relaxed atmosphere along with the perfect location amongst shops, restaurants, historical sites, parks, shoreline and beaches. The Boveda store is also a real point of interest filled with a variety of beautiful, quality items. If we are ever fortunate enough to return to San Juan we wouldn't consider staying anywhere else.

I stayed here with a group of my friends. This condo was in the heart of Old San Juan, right around the corner to the governors mansion. I had both units and it slept 9ppl easy with space for more. The workers in the store downstairs were very nice. The only dislike were the mosquito bites. I would stay here again...Better yet I am planning my next trip with my family to stay here.

I stayed at this location for my birthday vacation. The apartment looked exactly like it did on the internet. It was clean and very spacious. Our host Linda was great. During the process I had some changes in my group and Linda made sure that I was comfortable. She was available for restaurant tips and navigation. She was flexible and very accommodating. The location was prefect; great shops and food nearby. I had a great experience and would recommend it to anyone. I will be visiting again!!

I spent my vacation In Old San Juan and stayed in the Garden wing of the apartment at 209 Cristo. I'm a beach guy, and the apartment is almost a mile from my favorite beach, but I rented a bike, and it was a perfect ride. It was worth it to stay in Old San Juan because that's where all the nightlife and restaurants are, and from this apartment, at the end of the day, you're already home. The apartment was clean, quiet, and ultra secure. There's a huge door downstairs, then an Iron gate. Upstairs there are separate locks on every door if you want to use them. It was so convenient having a washing machine, and I didn't have to miss my favorite shows because the TV has NY channels!
