“Love this place - great value, very clean, lovely owners/manager”

Reviewed 20 Feb 2014

We stayed in the casita with our 2.5-year-old and had a great visit. My only (and I mean only) complaint about the place is that the bathroom door doesn't leave much in the way of privacy (it's the vented slats). Otherwise, beds were comfortable, it was very clean, the appliances were great, and the place was very safe.

“This is an oasis!”

Staying in the casita wss wonderful! We had privacy and space to relax. We loved making a light breakfast to eat on our private patio, venturing out on the island and then coming home to grill by the pool. We walked to the beach on three occasions and it was private! This is a great property at a fair price and is well-maintained. We plan to go back.

“Had a great anniversary!”

Reviewed 6 Jun 2013

Renee and her husband did a great job of making my wife and I feel welcome and comfortable right from the get go. The guest house was clean and comfortable. More then we had hoped for. Besides being a 30 second walk from the beach, there was a large pool on premise that provided much appreciated morning and night swims. Since you need a jeep to get anywhere on the island, location becomes a moot point. We would, and have recommended this location to friends and family. plus, we plan on coming back ourselves. Thanks again guys.

Response from the owner Thanks so much for the great review! We're thrilled to hear that you enjoyed your time at Casa Ladera. Happy anniversary! Regards, Jen

“Just right!”

Reviewed 16 May 2013

I was initially drawn to Vieques by reading about the W. We spent our first three days at the W, which was beautiful, but a big let-down. We felt totally nickled and dimed at the W. But then... We rented a Jeep and headed over to the Casita at Casa Ladera. There's really not much to elaborate on what other's have said - it's just perfect. We have two girls - 10 and 13. We enjoy a lovely hotel and a fancy dinner, but when it comes to spending a week + at the beach, renting a home is the best way to go. Casa Ladera is comfortable, not fancy. The Casita is great - functional kitchen opens to eating area and small living room, which opens to the patio with a dining table. It is a short walk to the nicely-kept pool area. Also, the views are incredible. You are one home off the ocean (facing North, maybe, towards mainland PR). The big white home oceanfront does block a small amount of the view, but really, the view is lovely. Also, the roof deck on the casita gives an even better view - great place for sunrise and sunset. Even the first floor patio of the apartments has a great view of the ocean, as it's a few feet above the pool deck. Renee, the "hostess", was fantastic. She gave great recommendations and was very helpful and personable. The Casita was well stocked - you really don't need to bring anything but your bathing suit and a cover-up. The island is so cool. Esperanza, on the other side, is a great place to get a drink and food. Tin Box was incredible (bbq). Grocery store is right around the corner but terrible - alas, they have the basics. Definitely plan to go to the farmer's market nearby, I think on Tuesday and Wednesday. We loved Sun Beach, among many, many others. Many of the beaches are on calm coves, so great for little kids. The beach at Ladera is beautiful, too, but more like a New England beach with rocks and brown sand. Oh, definitely schedule a bio bay tour in advance. It was totally incredible. Enjoy!

Response from the owner Hello, and thank you so very much for the review. It's great to hear that Casa Ladera exceeded your expectations and that Renee was so helpful (as she always is)! Please come back and stay with us again anytime. Best, Jen

“Perfect location, great views, very relaxing”

Reviewed 4 Apr 2013

My husband, daughter & I stayed in the Casita for five days during March 2012. When we needed assistance, the property manager, Renee, was there to help us. Otherwise, it was very private. There were others staying in the main house, but we rarely saw or heard them. Mornings and after sunset were my favorite times. I would go to up to the rooftop deck & watch iguanas sun themselves in the trees lining the deck, listen to the waves crash & the sea breeze gently sway the palms. It was so relaxing. It's an easy walk to the beach from Casa Ladera, even for kiddos. It was too rough on that side of the island to swim while we were there, but it was great for exploring & there are plenty of other beaches in easy driving distance that are calm & more protected. It's an easy drive to anything you need, but of course, Vieques is tiny, so it's mostly an easy drive from anywhere to anywhere. The Casita at Casa Ladera had everything we needed and was better than advertised. It's not huge, it's just what you need. If you spend all of your time there, you're missing the point of Vieques. I completely recommend their rental, and would love to stay there again. My profile, because perspective helps (you know the travelers who always stay at the Best Western, and they mess up ratings because they rate anything with room service a five): I'm a frequent business traveler who stays in high-end, full-service, hotels. For personal travel, I prefer either vacation rentals or boutique hotels.

Response from the owner Thanks so much for the great review! I'm so glad you had a great time and that Renee was so helpful. Please come back and stay with us again any time! All the best, Jen

“Beautiful place on a wonderful island.”

Reviewed 21 Mar 2013

The place was clean, beautiful and greatly located with services nearby. They are providing Jeeps you can rent from them directly. No need to care about renting a car. The place is safe and having a big swimming pool next to our door was really apreciated. Communication with owners and staff was smooth and quick, you will feel comfortable at doing business with them. Vieques is a wonderful Island and Casa Ladera is a great place to stay. We have enjoyed the Casita next to the main house as it is well equipped and comfortable for all (4) of us. Highly recommended. Francois Stayed March 2013, travelled with family

Response from the owner Thank you Francois, for the great review. We really appreciate it, and are so happy you had a great stay with us! Best, Jen

“Very impressed.”

Reviewed 13 Mar 2013

Not only was the place very clean and stocked with all the things we didn't want to pack, but Renee really made our trip. First, she drove us around and showed us where things where. Then, as soon as we got to the place, she sat down at the table with us and, with a map, wrote us notes, told us about everything from the farmers market, to where to shop, to where the best snorkeling, beaches, to-go sandwiches...All of it. It was priceless!!! It made our trip so memorable, having a local insider share all of her favorites. Would stay again in a heartbeat!

“Great casita with Remarkable Renee”

Reviewed 28 Feb 2013

We had a great stay in the 2 bedroom casita. Renee is the best asset of the property as she was very helpful in pointing us toward beaches, food, restaurants, coffee shopts, etc. The property and casita are nice, and practical places to stay. Very comfortable, easy to prepare meals in the kitchen, cable TV, comfortable beds, etc. Excellent condition, well maintained on a well kept property. Would be a great value for a family or 2 couples. Great pool, though we used it very little, as we spent most of the time at the beaches. Our favorite beach was red beach. It was so good that we didn't try and go see all the other beaches, which is unusual for us. 2 miles of beach and 1 to 3 dozen people. Perfect water, sand, and a beautiful view. I read later that we should have snorkeled out to the island for turtles, etc. Wish I had done that. A car is a must on this island. Absolutely a must. While we typically try and see new places on vacations, this island and casita is one that we would consider returning for a visit. Would love to come back w friends or family. Some restaurants look like they are for "locals" only, but we found we were welcome and they cater to tourists. Tip for the island. Get a swimsuit that has a zip pocket, get a small wallet you can carry only essential credit cards, cash and drivers license, and leave everything else at home. Zip the wallet in your pocket and it doesnt hurt to get wet, and you dont have to worry about leaving it on the beach, or worse in your car. Actually it works well on any island. Better wet cash than worrying about it, or having it stolen. There is a safe in the casita. The bio bay is worth it. I was prepared for an over hyped experience, but it amazed us and if we went back would do it again. Great property, Great help from Renee, and as good of beaches as I have seen anywhere.

Response from the owner Thanks for the great review. It sounds like you had a fantastic trip, and we're always glad to hear raves about Renee. We agree, she is the best! :) Regards, Jen

“Fantastic place! Exceeded our expectations”

Reviewed 2 Feb 2013

This was my second trip to Vieques and was lucky to find a vacancy at Casa Ladera. We are a family of 5 and stayed in the two bedroom casita. It was perfect! The location on the island is great - close to the town square, 3 minutes away from the supermarket and gas stations. Clean, comfortable and convenient. We were able to cook breakfasts and grill dinners which was convenient with our smaller kids. The pool is very nice . . . the kids had a great time swimming in there after a full day at the beach. Casa Ladera also has cars to rent which is brilliant! Cars in Vieques can be hard to get if you don't book in advance (which we didn't) so Renee, the property manager, let us use the back up car at Casa Ladera. The rates were also better than the local rental places. Renee, the property manager, was wonderful. She was hospitable, helpful and very easy to work with. She loaned us kids toys for the beaches. The place also comes with beach towels and chairs. There is a laundry machine on the property which we used once. This was great as we didn't have to pack so much and didn't come back with a ton of dirty clothes.I highly recommend this place. Its a great place and a great value. We stayed at another place for two nights since Casa Ladera was booked and it did not even come close to Ladera! We will definitely stay here when we come back to Vieques!

Response from the owner We're thrilled to hear that you had a wonderful stay in the Casita at Casa Ladera. Please come back anytime! Best, Jen

“Peace and Quiet”

Reviewed 21 Dec 2012

We stayed in the cottage portion of the property. There in the "offseason" so there were no other folks on the property. Here are the +'s and -'s Positives - 1. the cottage is in excellent condition 2. kitchen is well provisioned with utensils and all systems/appliances in fine working order 3. the aC units work very well (can cool the rooms in less than 15 min.) 4. The pool and grounds are well-maintained (nice large pool) 5. Nice to have a decent grocery store only 1/5th mile away. 6. On-site contact person (Renee) is great..very responsive & knowledgeable 7. WiFi connection is fairly reliable Negatives: 1. Like most places the TV/sattelite operation is very difficult to figure out - be sure that you get a good tutorial right up front 2. The view of the ocean is obstructed by a slighty run-down home/property between the Casa and the ocean 3. Beware of renting any of the Suvs that they own...we had two of them break down on us within the first two days of our stay (they may have retired these by now and/or stepped away from renting vehicles) Overall - a true value and it is located within 15-30 minute drive of the majority of the great beaches.

Response from the owner Thanks so much for the review. Based on your suggestion, we'll put instructions for using the TV remotes in each of the units; that's a great idea. Please come back and stay with us again anytime! Best, Jen
