“Comfortable home in a good location”
My family spent a week at the artist retreat after Christmas through New years. The house accommodated the eight of us comfortably. The beds are comfortable and dressed with good linens and warm blankets. The private casita was quite nice while the rest of the property was well worn. The house was not ready at check in, and when it was "ready" the kitchen floor still had food on it, and the rugs had not been swept under in quite some time. All of the fantastic patios were completely covered with leaves , dirt, and cobwebs. The downstairs bedroom toilet was broken , the fireplace did not work, nor did the television, and after being reported management was un responsive. The kitchen was oversold as gourmet but was poorly appointed ,but adequate . We were assured that the dining table sat 8 but there were only 6 chairs? Not to be all negative, we had a great time and a great family vacation. Great nights around the 3 wood fireplaces. The outdoor fireplace was really nice after we all pitched in and cleaned the place up it was quite comfortable.
Response from the manager We thank you for your time and stating the home is comfortable and a good location. Based on what the Christmas guest stated prior to your arrival -The entire house was stylishly and tastefully decorated. Plenty of space too - the house was perfect including the kitchen, décor, linens, fireplaces. In fact, each prior guest reported the home as a 5-star accommodation. As for the yard, during the winter months, with snow and wind, we do our best to keep the immediate patio broom clean. As for your arrival, it is my understanding that you checked in prior to check in time and since a guest had left that morning, the housekeepers were very busy with many houses to prepare for New Year's arrivals. Had you not checked in prior to your check in time, the kitchen and the outdoor patio would have been cleaned perhaps more to your liking. It's a tough job for our housekeeping team to clean when 8 people arrive early and begin to walk on hardwood floors that are still drying. Our work order log shows you requested additional firewood which we had delivered promptly. On December 31, a report was made to our office that a toilet was flushing slowing but you preferred to have it repaired after you departed. No mention was made of the fireplace or TV. We have staff available 24/7 and someone would have been dispatched to your request. We did get an emergency call from the housekeeper at your departure that the house was heavily used, trash and dirty diapers were not wrapped or disposed of and we had to send our handyman to retrieve all the trash that was left. by your family. (Many, many bags of trash). This home sleeps 8 guests and it is my understanding that you had more occupants than were permitted, perhaps on air mattresses since the furniture was moved. We hope to have a larger home for your next visit.
“Beautiful, well equipped space”
Artist's Retreat is a lovely, well maintained, and well equipped home close to all the sights in Santa Fe. The Casita on the property is especially luxurious. Wish we could have been there in the spring and summer to see what are clearly spectacular gardens and to enjoy the beautiful outdoor spaces. But there were winter compensations. For example, we really enjoyed the easy-to-work fireplaces (of the five fireplaces, including one outdoors, two are gas and turn on with the swipe of a dial). Ample stacked wood was provided with the rental. The spacious and modern kitchen boasts one of the gas fireplaces next to the dining table, so we were especially cozy there. The kitchen was very well equipped (an amazing stove/oven). I live at sea level, so was unfamiliar with the requirements of high-elevation cooking--I recommend travelers to Santa Fe coming from lower altitudes read up on this beforehand (everything takes longer)! The entire house was stylishly and tastefully decorated. Plenty of space too. There are four bedrooms (with comfy beds), each with its own updated bathroom, but note that one bedroom is in the Casita and one is beneath the main house down stairs and with a separate entrance. To get to these two bedrooms, one does need to go outside. This was a good choice for our Christmas family reunion because it provided separation for adult children.
Response from the manager Thank you - we agree - fabulous home. Look forward to having you with us again!
We recently rented "Artist's Retreat" for our daughter's wedding. We absolutely loved the home. The owners spared no expense in updating this home. Their decorating touches are everywhere. The updated kitchen is a chef's dream. We had access to every utensil imaginable. The courtyard is in pristine condition and was perfect for serving our guests. The linens are of the highest quality. The only negative I found in this home is that we stayed there at the end of June. The house was not air conditioned, and it was unseasonably hot. There are window units in the bedrooms, but I wouldn't recommend having guests in the bedroom in the basement. It was simply too hot to sleep down there.
“So lovely didn't want to leave”
We had a fabulous time at the artist's retreat. It was beautiful and serene. The decor was lovely and it was great to spend the weekend amongst the original paintings by the owners of the house. The kitchen was appointed beautifully and the back yard was truly to die for. Such a lot of good space to ramble around in. My only teeny complaint was not enough seating in the living room for the 8 people total. Perhaps the addition of a love seat or two more comfortable chairs would be great. Overall, it was a truly beautiful and classy home.
