“A beautiful time at a beautiful house...”
Our first time coming to Emerald Isle in September. Weather was great and no crowd! There was our adults and 3 children in our group and the house was more than big enough. Great walkway to the beach and everyone loved the pool and hot tub. The extra outside door to the downstairs bathroom was such a help when changing the kids out of their wet clothes. It may have been due to us visiting near the end of the season, but the house does show use. Nothing a little paint and updating can't fix. In no way when I say "show use" do I mean dirty, the house was very well kept and clean. Will be back next September!
“Great family time with amazing views and beach access”
We had a terrific week. While it was the end of the season and there were minor repair issues, the EI Realty staff was very responsive and we were there for family fun, not luxury resort living. There was plenty of amenities and toys and the view and large room was stupendous. The elevator made a huge difference for us with a disabled family member and the bedrooms on multiple levels allowed us to let the teens have some freedoms.
“Great family Vacation place!”
We loved the house and our kids loved the pool table, pool, hot tub and being able to walk out the back door and be at the water. The house had lots of room and looked great. A few things needed repair pool sticks & TV remotes we called and the next morning they came to repair them. Computer and video games didn't work and we didn't ask for them to be repaired. The weather was great we spent most of our time outside. We would stay here again it was a great time and great house. There was lots of dishes, pots & pans, glasses, est. The service was one of the best.
“needs some special attention”
The best thing this house has going for it is the location. The walkway to the beach with minimal steps are a plus for those with mobility problems. The home needs some attention to make it really special. Some of the problems we encountered might have been tolerated if it was the end of the season. Let's start with the positive: pretty paint colors, comfy furniture inside, great recreation room, plenty of dishes and flatware, air-conditioning worked well, new large capacity washer and dryer, nice pool. Not so positive: decks are in poor shape with exposed nail heads, many warped and rough boards. We had a baby with us and could not put her down to crawl around on the decks for fear of splinters or getting cut on a rusty nail head; deck furniture is in bad shape with pealing paint; bugs that look like cockroaches; no extra blankets and pillows for the trundle beds; advertised ice maker is not hooked up; dishes appeared dirty due to the hard water; half of the jets in the hot tub do not work; vines growing over the walkway to the beach, not good for folks with mobility issues; no hand bars in any of the showers or bathtubs for older folks or those with mobility issues; no where to hang towels; some of the bedrooms do not have mirrors and there were no hangers in any of the closets; very few baking dishes and plastic containers for left overs, however there are ample pots and pans; no ignitor for the grill; poor information on what to recycle; torn screens, the slider leading to the main deck off the living area was extremely hard to open and close, and the screen slider lacked a handle on the outside. The realtor was prompt in addressing the concerns that they could. The brought us more blankets, pillows, hangers and LemyShine which helped with the dishwasher issues due to hard water. Maintenance came to trim the vines off the walkway and to spray for bugs. Realtor also offered to reimburse us for ice and an ignitor for the grill.

“Great trip and place to stay”
We came with the extended family (12) for the week. We had a great time. The house is quite large that made it comfortable for the number of people here. The house is somewhat convenient for shopping and getting groceries. The beach was good, not too crowded at all. We like that aspect of coming after Labor Day. We did have issues with bugs in the house but given it was just after Hurricane Irene, it wasn't really too bad. We rewashed all the dishes that came with the house. We enjoyed the TVs, the stereos, the game boxes, the hot tub and the pool. All in all, I would recommend this property for folks looking to house a large number of people. We did meet one of the owners, he was surveying the damage from the hurricane which in reality wasn't too bad. Thanks!!

Only a few appliances were acting up = Cable was out for couple days and the ice maker was not working all the time. The washing machine ruined two of my husband's ralph lauren polo shirts with rust stains I cannot get it out. The dryer never worked properly - nothing would dry. We checked the exhaust vent and it looked fine, not blocked so it is in the house somewhere blocked and could be a fire hazard. Really need a hand sink in the kitchen area - with 20 people in the house that would be better.
“Just what the doc tor ordered!!!”
Wonderful week, weather was outstanding facilities were excellent. There was only one inconvenience. The elevator was not working until Monday night.
The house is in desperate need of refurbishing. Do not pay for heating the pool because it barely works. The hot tub didn't work and was not repaired. Both gaming systems were broke. Not worth the price.
Response from the manager Thank you for your review. I'm sorry your stay at Hawaiian Thunder left you disappointed. I see where you reported the pool heater to maintenance during your stay but the other issues, jaccuzzi tub not working and gaming systems being broken, weren't reported until check out. Certainly, we would have worked to resolve these issues. As for the pool heat, it takes 24 hours to achieve the maximum temperature and then it will heat the water up to ten degrees warmer than the outside air temperature. My notes from maintenance indicate that the heater was locked and inaccessible, therefore not turned on until the third day of your vacation. I apologize for this setback but you were refunded for the time which the pool was not heated. Thank you again for providing your feedback. “Great Vacation! But place needs work.”
The location is great and the house has the potential to be excellent, but since my first stay there in 2008, the property has, in my opinion, not been properly maintained. Torn screens, filthy grill, non-functioning hot tub, the clean up before we arrived was not great, the walls and ceiling in the game room were all marked up. Maintenance responded immediately when I called, but why did I need to call? However, would I rent the same property again? In a heartbeat.

Excellent vacation home. Kitchen needed the following: utensils, etc. are old and need to be replaced. Measuring cups need replacing.
